2013 Coaching Staff Announced. Sheridan Being Replaced?

The Tampa Bay buccaneers announced their 2013 coaching staff today, and it comes with news you have heard before. Garrett (WR) and McNulty (QB) come as new offensive assistance, While Tony Oden comes on to coach the Secondary and Dave Wannstedt is your new Special Teams coach.

But one bit of news is unheard of until today, Robb Smith is now coaching Linebackers. Smith spent time at Rutgers as a Defensive Coordinator, a Linebacker coach and a Secondary coach, but that isn't what makes this announcement notable. It's the fact that Bob Fraser has been upgraded to assistant Defensive Coordinator. Fraser coached the Linebacker squad last season, and now will work hand in hand with Sheridan to lead this defense.

But the question is, why?

Fraser is experienced in calling defenses, as he served as Defensive Coordinator at Rutgers under Shiano, and he did do a great job with the Linebackers this past season. So why did Shiano feel the need to create another hole in his staff just to upgrade Fraser to assistant coordinator? Could it be that he is being groomed as Sheridan's replacement? Possibly. Or it could be that Sheridan requested an assistant. Or maybe Shiano is into astronomy and the stars told him to do it? Ok, so maybe not that last one.

Regardless, this could put Sheridan in a very awkward position. If he his defense should fail this coming season, Shiano has made it all the more easy to make a change.
