Dion Jordan played for the Oregon Ducks. He was first signed on as a Tight End but was switched to OLB/DE. While playing for the Ducks he covered tight ends and slot receivers while also rushing the passer because of his versatility he was Oregons best defensive player and a top ten prospect.
Unfortunately for Dion he tore his Labrum and will undergo surgery, this has caused his draft stock to tumble. While this may be bad news for Dion I believe this is great news for the Bucs, because he has the potential to become a Von Miller type player.
Von Miller was an excellent pass rusher coming out of college but struggled to some degree in Denver as a rookie because they ran a 4-3 defense and he was asked to do more in coverage instead of just chasing the quarterback. Now he is one of the best defensive players in the game.
Dion Jordan stands at 6-feet-7-inches tall and is incredibly fast. He has the ability to cover nfl tight ends, and with Jimmy Graham in our division that is a necessity. Also his speed and length make him a premier edge rusher.
The biggest concerns with Dion’s game is that he is raw both as a pass rusher and a tackler. The tackling part does not really concern me much because if Schiano can take the worst tackling team I have ever seen in the 2011 Buccaneers and turn them to the number one ranked rushing defense in 2012 he should do fine with a physical specimen like Dion Jordan.
His pass rushing skill are a little more concerning. His pass rush moves are very limited and he has trouble shedding blocks, also he is not the strongest guy on the field and can be overpowered by lineman.
Overall Dion Jordan’s upside and versatility far outweigh his weaknesses.
My dream draft.
first pick- Kenny Vacarro
second pick- move back up and draft Dion Jordan
third pick- Logan Ryan
the rest- who cares?
Tell me what you think about Dion or the draft.
