I think our 1997-2008 defense has pacified alot of the fans.... here's why.

First of all we have always had a good or elite defense during that time period. And our offense was mediocre at best during that time. Now me and some of the "Anti-Freeman" guys have expected Freeman to lead this offense and this team because our defense has been weak since 2009 and was still weak as of 2012. Our offense had new weapons and had the firepower to outscore any team in the league if ran properly. We have never had an offense like this in franchise history. EVER. So while they did good overall stat wise they could have done SO much better. But because franchise records were broken alot of Freeman supporters are in awe because of the records set by mediocre offenses before us. While I and others weren't that impressed with them. And alot of the Freeman supporters think that the expectations of the offense bailing the team out were unrealistic. Even though he did so in 2010 numerous times. And no matter how much (jben05 or others) try and debate the 2010 defense wasn't that good.

Now here's the catch. We cant expect the high powered offense to score points and lead us to victory because we know our defense was weak this year but in 1998-2008 weren't we expecting our good or elite defense to save us more times than not because we knew or expected our offense to not score alot of points? So why cant we expect the strongest unit on the team to carry us to victory now but we were able to do so before?

Now I'm not saying that no one wasn't critical of our offense during the hey days and we did try and attempt to improve the unit. And I'm not saying that the offenses were complete garbage then either. What I'm saying is our defense was clearly better than the offense. Now the tables have turned. Our offense is better than our defense. And we still need to address our defense and we may never have an elite defense like we had before. Who knows but my expectation still is for our offense to lead this team to victory and not expect our defense to turn into the 2002 Bucs and hold teams to record setting yards and points allowed.
