According to Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune, the Buccaneers will meet with free agent Michael Bennett's agent today, presumably to talk on contracts. Bennett's agent is (in)famous superagent Drew Rosenhaus -- unless Bennett changed agents over the past few days.
Bucs GM Mark Dominik is scheduled to meet with the agent for UFA DE Michael Bennett this afternoon. Could be 1st step toward retaining MB— Roy Cummings (@RCummingsTBO) February 22, 2013
Rosenhaus has a reputation as a stubborn driver of hard bargains, but he has produced a lot of deals in recent years and exceedingly few holdouts. With free agency three weeks away, opening officially on March 12th but with talks allowed from March 9, the Bucs have plenty of time to strike a deal with Rosenhaus and Bennett.
Given Da'Quan Bowers' recent legal troubles, and just Bennett's high level of play in general, the Buccaneers should make re-signing the defensive end a priority. Hopefully, they'll actually get started now.
