The Tampa Bay Buccaneers may see their best free agent walk out the door this season. According to Stephen Holder of the Tampa Bay Times, the Buccaneers and Bennett have spoken but there is "not momentum toward a deal being struck before the signing period begins." That is bad news.

As we've said before, re-signing Michael Bennett should be the team's main priority this offseason. The defensive end led the Buccaneers in sacks last season with 9, and has been absolutely crucial as a run defender. Bennett will get a big contract on the free agent market, but the Buccaneers can easily afford to pay him well, as they have a lot of salary cap room.

That said, this is no reason to panic. There's plenty of time before free agency starts, which won't be until March 12. The combine, which will occur next week, is usually when teams start seriously talking to agents about extensions. The fact that there is currently "no momentum" toward a deal means very little.
