Trading down. Trading up. This 2013 draft...Chinese arithmetic anyone?

I wanted to address this separately in a fanpost, in order to have a meeting of the minds and give this topic its proper recognition. We have some smart folks here, so lets brainstorm! While we can go all over the place, trying to figure out different scenarios, I want to focus on just one. How to get two 1st rounders and two 2nd rounders in this draft while still keeping next year's picks, our 3rd rounder, and having a few later rounds this year to play with.

So what is the best way to approach it? Who will we go after in taking this approach? Well, thats dependant on who we re-sign in FA and also who we pick up as new members in FA (before the draft of course). That will determine our decisions in trading back from #13 (if we choose to do so), and trading back into the 1st or back into the 2nd. We were in a better position last year because of our higher draft position status. So lets revisit that since I brought it up. If my numbers are wrong, please correct me:

We started with the 5th overall pick. Dom switched 1st rounders and picked up a 4th in doing so, and only dropped 2 spots. We spent the 1st pick at #7, then used a 4th to get back into the end of the 1st round for pick #31. Then we drafted David in the 2nd...and thats where Im going to stop. I dont think any more trades were done, but please correct me if Im wrong.

Now, our draft position status isnt as good as last year's status because we actually won some friggin games for a change this past season. So If we try what Im hoping for, Im thinking we will have to go for two trade downs, while being compensated with a 4ths on each, (based on last years history). So switch 1st selection positions 2 times, end up with four 4th rounders (according to the value based on how far back we're falling while switching)...and hope all of those 4th's help us back into the 1st, and earlier into the 2nd while keeping our original but later position in the 2nd. Plus keeping our 3rd. Now we could throw in numbers 5-7 but thats anyone's guess come draft day as to how well we could use those rounds to bargain with.

Another scenario is If we do pick at #13, then we can only hope our two 4th's will get us back into the first (according to where and with which team is a HUGE variable since they will be trading out of the 1st) . But we may have to spend more since we're picking later in the line than last year. Anyways, I hope this wasnt too boring ;) Let me know what you think.
