They are the teams that you love to hate, the NFC South divisional foes. Every year the Bucs play them two times. We love to hate them as fans, but do you hate some teams less than the others? I know I do, but why do I? Lets breakdown all of the Buccaneers rivals history.
Carolina Panthers: Ah, the Carolina Panthers, one of the newest additions in the last twenty years to the NFL. They joined the NFC South looking to continue their previous years of success, but they couldn't find traction in the new division, especially with the Super Bowl Champion Buccaneers in the division. The Panthers quickly found success the next season going all the way to the Superbowl, only to fall to the Patriots. The Buccaneers and Panthers have met twenty-six times in the regular season dating back to the Panthers debut season when the Bucs defeated the pesky Panthers 20-13. Since then the Panthers have a slight edge in the series leading fifteen to eleven. Over recent years they have traded wins never really getting an advantage over the other. They have had some big time games, from the defensive battle of 2002 when Tampa won on field goals, to the bizarre special teams battle of 2003 when the Panthers barely escaped in overtime, or as of late with the Panthers stomping the then win-less Buccaneers on Thursday night 31-13. After the history Tampa and Carolina have of battling defenses and struggling offenses can you say the Panthers are your most hated team? Do you just despise that powder blue, and black Panther head? Something tells me there is a team more hated on the list, but who?
New Orleans Saints: The good ole' New Orleans Saints, the classic Aint's have found recent success over the years. The Saints and Bucs have met a whopping forty-three times dating all the way back to Tampa Bay's second season as a team. The Saints were the Yuccaneers first victim, losing in dramatic fashion the Saints head coach was fired directly after the games as the Bucs won their first game. After this they met again the next season, only the Yuccaneers were no longer the Yuccaneers, surprising a lot of teams Tampa advanced to the playoffs, despite this success they got spanked by the New Orleans defense ultimately losing 42-14. After this the Bucs and Saints met ten years in a row from 1981 to 1992 despite being in different divisions, the Bucs lost nine of these twelve games. As the Saints dominated us for years they would not play again until 1998 in an atrocious game for both squads as the Saints went on to win. After the NFC South was created the Saints have had the upper hand defeating Tampa fourteen out of twenty five times. Especially last year when the Saints thwomped the Bucs did the fans true hate for the Saints show through but there is still one opponent left.
Atlanta Falcons: This is the team I hate the most, but I don't really know why. Maybe it is the recent years of close but heartbreaking loses, the early 2000's dirty games where brawls were more than likely to happen between these foes. I don't know what it is but every Bucs fan I know just seems to hate the Falcons the most out of all the rivals. The series always provides close games as the Bucs just took the one game advantage in a forty one game series. From 1997-2003 Tampa Bay seemed to have their number, but since then it has been close, often splitting the series every year with nail biting games.Falcons fans just have this sort of arrogance about them, it's hard to explain but if you have experienced it, you know what I mean.
Thanks for reading now you tell me in the poll below who you hate the most!
