It's a little early for mock drafts and many, many things will change between now and May (yes, the draft moved to May), but that doesn't mean we can't speculate a little. The Bucs dropped out of the top two for the first time in a couple of months, which means they have an actual choice this time. Mocking the Draft is giving the Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Derek Carr in their latest mock draft.
The Buccaneers may play themselves out of a high enough draft position to acquire a top-end quarterback prospect. If Tampa ends up doing so, Mike Glennon has probably performed well enough to get one more season as the Buccaneers quarterback. As it stands in this mock draft, Tampa is sitting at No. 5, and Derek Carr is on the board. Considering the strides Carr has made from his junior to his senior season, his physical tools should excite teams picking in the top 10. Depending on the new coaching staff, a certain firecracker quarterback from Texas A&M could be in play here as well.
With Marcus Mariota and Teddy Bridgewater off the board, Derek Carr would make sense -- assuming that the Bucs don't stick with Mike Glennon. Their current quarterback is coming off his best game as a pro, but it remains to be seen how he'll play over the final six games of the season.
Carr is an intriguing quarterback, mostly because he vastly improved over last year. He's a classic pocket passer. He's generally accurate with a good arm and clean mechanics. Of course, the question is whether he's better than Mike Glennon. He has a quicker release, but it's impossible to judge how he would read defenses given his generally quick-throw offense. At least he doesn't look like Beaker, I guess?
