It was a year ago that Schiano's new defense scheme was placed into the NFL. It was pretty easy to determine this defense, play man to man and blitz everyone else. Now this was obviously not the only play we used but honestly that's what it seemed like almost every game (especially the Giants game). I don't know about you guys, but this defense drove me crazy!!! How the heck are we going to put undrafted rookies/kids from the street 1on1 by themselves almost every single play?
Why am I asking about this? Well for some reason it seems like we completely went away from the full out blitz and leaving Revis Island on an Island. Maybe I'm mistaken but the whole game vs the eagles I felt like we barely put any pressure on the Foles, also I felt the corners were 10 yards deep every time.
When we retrieved Revis and Goldson this year, I was finally fine with the scheme and crazy blitzing Schiano loves. I felt like the Bucs now had the correct players out on the field to run this defense. I truly felt that one game which we ran this scheme a majority of the time was during the Saints game (but I may be wrong), and the defense was so much fun to watch!
Schiano's defense has been pretty solid this year but the man to man coverage I feel like needs to come back more often! This article probably doesn't matter because the season ( and Schiano) may be done, but honestly I have a feeling if he comes back to this (and it is successful) and Glennon continues to grow, we may see Schiano one more year. Crazy to think (and I don't think he will be back) but just something to think about out. If he finishes strong and doesn't lose the team then I think he may have a year left.
