There are some select F/As out there that could quickly fill some of our biggest needs. My head doesn't really expect a repeat of last years big F/A signings, but my heart knows we are in a financial position to do it. Whoever we sign, it needs to be done BEFORE the Draft begins, so we can focus solely on filling the remaining needs. Dom, Schiano and Co. were very aggressive, right out of the gate, in 2012 and I hope that precedent continues. There are certain positions that lend themselves to being filled by a veteran player, because they are proven experienced commodities already playing at the NFL level. Other positions are best handled through the Draft where the rookie salary structure keeps the costs low, as signing a top veteran QB, LT and CB have become far too expensive.
Below is a small list of players I would like to see us pursue this off-season...
OFFENSE
TE James Casey (HOU)
TE Delaine Walker (SF)
QB Matt Moore (MIA)
RB Felix Jones (DAL)
WR Danny Amendola (STL)
RT Sebastian Vollmer (NE)
DEFENSE
FS Jarius Byrd (BUF)
FS Dashon Goldson (SF)
CB Keenan Lewis (PIT)
CB Sean Smith (MIA)
Certain teams are very close to their salary cap limits (HOU and STL), if not already over (DAL and PIT) so signing away any of these players is a strong possibility. The list of available players will surely grow as teams maneuver to put themselves back under the salary cap. Out of the above players, if we could just find a starting TE, CB , FS, and some additional depth players we would be well on our way to bigger and better things in 2013.
