The Potential 2013 Super Bowl Match-Ups

Just for consideration:

Atlanta Falcons vs. Baltimore Ravens - aka The Bird Bowl.

The narratives: Two fresh Quarterbacks - Ryan and Flacco - primed to become marquee Super Bowl QBs. Aging veterans - Tony Gonzalez and John Abraham for the Falcons, Ray Lewis for the Ravens - looking for postseason glory, especially with Lewis facing retirement. Atlanta looking for their first Super Bowl win after a devastating loss to Denver ages ago: Baltimore Ravens looking for a second SB win that would finally erase the ghosts of the Colts from their fanbase.

The woes: Neither franchise a jewel in the NFL crown like the Niners or the Pats. Worries that without San Francisco in the big game that the West Coast could tune out.

Atlanta Falcons vs. New England Patriots

The narratives: newcomer QB Ryan vs. veteran SB contender QB Tom Brady. Falcons looking for their first win vs. the Patriots looking to overcome two heartbreaking SB losses to the Giants that tarnished their dreams of being a dominant team of the 2000s the way the Steelers of the 70s and 49ers of the 80s were. Underdog, nobody-believes-in-us Falcons vs. seasoned, experienced, overcoached Patriots.

The woes: People expecting a blowout win by the Patriots. Because in truth nobody believes in the Atlanta Falcons...

San Francisco 49ers vs. New England Patriots

The narratives: OH MY F-CKING GOD. You'll have THE TEAM of the 1980s coming back to the Super Bowl since, like, forever, playing against THE TEAM of the 2000s trying to win one more Super Bowl (after two dismal failures) to put themselves in the hallowed company of teams like the Steelers, 49ers, Cowboys, Giants and Packers. East Coast vs. West Coast. Defense (49ers) vs. Offense (Patriots). Rising superstar QB Colin Kaepernick vs. Supernova Brady. Considering the levels of hatedom, fans could view this as Less Evil (49ers) vs. Evil (the Hoodie).

The woes: Almost none. The NFL has to be hoping for this matchup.

San Francisco 49ers vs. Baltimore Ravens

The narratives: East Coast vs. West Coast the most obvious. Kaepernick vs. Flacco as future QB superstar. Young powerful defense for the 49ers while the Ravens' aging defense is looking to send retiring key veteran Lewis out with a win. Due to Art Modell as the most hated team owner - even still dead - you'll have fans rooting Less Evil (49ers) vs. Evil (Ravens).

The woes: Not as big a marquee as having the Patriots, but getting the Baltimore-DC fanbase interested is a nice consolation prize.
