Eagles hire Chip Kelly one year after turning down Buccaneers

Stay connected for news and updates

Jonathan Ferrey

Slightly under one year ago, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers almost managed to snare Chip Kelly -- before he passed and moved back to Oregon. It seemed that this year he'd do the exact same thing, only to the Cleveland Browns and Eagles, but the Ducks head coach has changed his mind once again: he's moving to the Eagles.

What did Chip Kelly bargain for, and what changed his mind? Was it money? Personnel control, as was the rumored reason for turning down the Bucs? Or as it the supposed impending NCAA sanctions for Oregon? Who knows, all I know is that we get an exciting new offense in the NFL and I'll be watching closely to see if it works out and what everyone could learn from it. Finally, an NFL head coach who won't punt in opposing territory, or kick a field goal on fourth-and-short. Of course, he could also flame out miserably -- we'll just have to watch.

Why did it have to be the Eagles, though? Of all the teams in the NFL? Well, at least it wasn't the Panthers.
