Now that the NFC Championship game has been determined, we can bring you a little bit of good news: either Vincent Jackson or Doug Martin will be featured in the Pro Bowl along with Gerald McCoy. Why? Because both Vincent Jackson were first alternates at their respective positions, and one Pro Bowler at one of those positions will be in the Super Bowl. That means that player will not get to go, and the Bucs will see their own replace them.
The San Francisco 49ers and Atlanta Falcons will face off, and the winner of that contest will determine who gets to go to the Pro Bowl. If the 49ers go to the Super Bowl, Frank Gore will miss the Pro Bowl, which would put Doug Martin in the Pro Bowl. If the Atlanta Falcons make it to the Super Bowl, Julio Jones will have to pull out of the Pro Bowl. And that would put Vincent Jackson in. And there is always a minor chance that both will get to go if players decide they don't want to appear in the Pro Bowl because of injury or other issues.
Moreover, if the 49ers make it to the Super Bowl, there's a tiny chance Ronde Barber gets to go to the Pro Bowl, too. He's listed as an alternate at free safety, though he isn't the first alternate. The 49ers are sending Dashon Goldson and Donte Whitner at free and strong safety respectively, and if the first alternate declines to appear in the Pro Bowl, Ronde could be suiting up in February.
