Barrett Ruud is coming back to town this season. It won’t be in a Buccaneers uniform, however. Ruud has been traded by the Seattle Seahawks to the New Orleans Saints for an undisclosed future draft pick. The Saints desperately need a linebacker after Chris Chamberlain tore his ACL during the Seahawks' preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Saints picked up Curtis Lofton and David Hawthorne in free agency, but both are battling injuries that are expected to keep them out for the remainder of the preseason.
Ruud is likely to start for the Saints, meaning the Bucs will be able to run against their former linebacker. Ruud had an injury plagued season last year for the Titans, amassing only 57 tackles and 1 interception in nine starts. He was picked up this off-season by the Seattle Seahawks but lost a training camp battle to rookie linebacker Bobby Wagner. Hopefully, the Bucs can have the same type of success that opposing run offenses had when Ruud played for the them back in the day.
