I usually don’t make predictions, much less bold ones. However since it is slow and we need some new material I am going to supply you with some hypothetical situations in something I like to call "The Nostradamus effect". Some are very possible and some are just outright ludicrous but hey lets have some fun while we are at. Feel free to add your own plausible/ridiculous scenarios below. So let’s get started.
First I want to talk about all things NFC south, stay with me on this. First Cam Newton, the jewel of the Carolinas. He is a mobile QB that has a good arm at times, He has shown flashes or great throwing ability mixed with some bad decision making. I am not a fan; clearly, I think he is the latest Michael Vick, Kordell Stewart etc. Basically a running QB that I think will NEVER win the big game. So here is my prediction on him and the Panthers. I think this year will be a shock to people in how bad he will play. There is a full year of tape on him and people know how to shut him down, it’s simple really. 1. Shut down Steve Smith 2. Put pressure on him and clog the running lanes to prevent escape. This is not new, teams did this to him last year which is why despite putting up high numbers he could not win the games because he did what Freeman did last year; force passes to win games. To sum it up Carolina finishes 8-8.
Atlanta aka “Chokelanta” well they are clearly in superbowl of bust mode. They are dangerously close in terms of cap space and may not be able to retain a lot of talent. This will be a VERY different team in 2013. Matt Ryan or Matty Ice as some call him. Which is a bit of a misnomer because when the pressure is on he is less than cool. He gets flustered easy and suffers from what I like to call the “Testeverde effect”. Although, Ryan is far more accurate than Testeverde was neither was cool under pressure and often made game breaking mistakes. Atlanta finishes with a losing season at 6-10.
New Orleans, lol lol lol lol. Not much else is needed. What a turnaround in 3 years this franchise has made am I right? Rising from one of the most devastating natural disasters in this country’s history and becoming superbowl champions was an epic tale. Many people were behind this franchise simply because of this story, I will admit I marked out to them and wanted them to win the superbowl. But man o man did things quickly change. Bounty gate, wire tapping’s etc. The worst part of this whole story is that they are coming off of a record breaking season, Brees broke Dan Marino’s record let me say that again DAN MARINOS RECORD, yet they have yet signed the face of their franchise and arguably the reason that Saints fans are not wearing paper bags on their heads. My bold prediction is They will be a winning franchise yet again 9-7 but will enter playoffs with the wild card but the bold part is this Drew Brees will sign his franchise tender and enter the season with a bitter taste in his mouth. Next year you will see Drew Brees in a Cardinals uniform.
Our beloved Bucs! So much to say so little time. We have had arguable the best off-season in Bucs history. There is a lot of hope riding on the success of what I call “the fantastic 6: referring to the 6 new starters that we acquired through FA and Draft. V-jax, Nicks, Wright, Martin, Barron, David. There may be more starters but these were huge key additions. It was a bit of a shock that we spent as much as we did in the offseason but well needed. The more shocking part is that we made some huge investments on offense. Last year, despite the ridiculous amount of 3 and outs, we finished 16th overall in terms of offense. I almost pooped my pants when I saw that. The key additions to offense makes, on paper, the best offense the Bucs have EVER had. We may be able to put up 30+ points every week. Our defense needs some key additions to really compete but I have said time and again that it will take at least 2 years of active FA and Draft to fix the issues we have on defense. Even though a lot is riding on Freemans success, there are no more room for excuses as we have invested heavily in weapons and protection for him, in short Free “time to nut up or shut up” My bold prediction. Our offense wins us the division; our defense loses our first playoff game since 2007.
That’s all for now. If you like this series I will do them for each division starting with the NFC South. Please vote if you would like to continue. Thank you. Now let the comment wars begin!!!!
P.S. Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
