DeQuan Menzie came to Bama as a JuCo standout, at a position of need and immediately made an impact. He started 2 years as a slot and nickel CB in Bama's 3-4 that position is a lot more like an extra SS with a lot of the same qualities and duties a SS requires in Tampa's scheme, playing zone and a lot of run support in the box along with slot duties as a cover man. The best quality Menzie has without a doubt is despite his size is what I call "stickums" tackling, he stopped a lot larger RBs and WRs dead in their tracks, has GREAT tackling technique and a very high football IQ guy. All of this is the reason Mayock and many others have him listed as a top 5 S despite not playing that natural position, but make no mistake, Menzie was an underrated cover corner as well, he is very athletic and fast, uses hands well and jams, has good hips. I feel like he will be a big time utility player on an NFL team with the skill to play either S or CB, but might need some coaching to move to a full time SS but he definitely has the skill set. I would love to see him as a Buccaneer.
