Don't know much about him

Did run a pro-style offense at North Carolina, which allowed T.J. Yates to do well early in Houston.

His Chicago offenses were terrible, though, and they got worse every year.

TJ Yates ran a very abbreviated offense on HOU...

and he was OK. I don’t know much about Shoop as an OC, but in general, the quality level of the assistants has me very concerned for 2012 and beyond.

by Cracker Ball on Feb 9, 2012 10:38 AM EST up reply actions

We had better not miss on OC/DC or this is going to be a disaster

Unfortunately I’ve seen nothing so far that has me encouraged that we won’t miss on OC/DC. I mean the best name floated so far has been Butch Davis, and I’m not really that much of a fan of him. When a middle of the road guy like him is the best name floated by a mile, I get really worried. And the OC names all sound just terrible.

by aakks on Feb 9, 2012 11:02 AM EST up reply actions

Hiring Butch Davis as DC...

would allow Schiano to focus on other things (kinda like Gruden/Kiffin) and lord knows he will have his hands full anyway. Butch Davis can run the DEF and it will improve over anything we have seen over the last 3 seasons.

by Cracker Ball on Feb 9, 2012 11:12 AM EST up reply actions

That's all true but only because the bar is so low

Butch Davis really isn’t all that great, he just looks like the best coach ever next to the other names floated.

by aakks on Feb 9, 2012 11:15 AM EST up reply actions

Would you prefer Raheem Morris as our DC?

It’s a step up, believe me.

I would just be happy...

to see the team moving in the right direction – something I do not see just yet.
It’s like trading a pimiento cheese sandwich for an egg salad sandwich. It’s better yes, but it’s no Philly Cheese Steak either.

I know it is, I said it was

I’m just saying he isn’t all that, it just sounds good because it has been so bad around here.

I've given up caring

Because ultimately the only thing I can control is what I choose to watch on Sundays next fall. This year will be a lot tougher for me to fork out the $320 for Sunday Ticket because, like CrackerBall, I’m concerned about the decisions that have been made regarding staff. I haven’t missed a game since 1997 when we started our ascent. But I just don’t see this course of action getting us back into contention. I hope they prove my fears to be unfounded.

Yeh, I hear ya

I guess that applies to every Bucs season too. Although last season was more like a box of chocolate covered turds. Left a bad taste.

lol, I understand your fustration lol just know

every great team or person has experience a great loss or tragedy before they can they can experience a even greater VICTORY in our case it’s just taking alittle longer lol

McAdoo

can greenbay do that? I thought a team could deny/block interviews only if it was for same position.

THIS IS AN ABSOLUTE JOKE

so now were poaching coordinators from UNC ?!? It’s bad enough that we are reaching down into the mid level depths of college programs for coaches, but now were reaching into the bottom barrel ? Seriously? This guy has had limited success in college, no success in the NFL, yet we feel the need to go after him?

Going from the Coordinator job at UNC football to a Coordinator job in the NFL would be the equivalent of jumping from a mid level broker at Sachs to the CFO overnight. Do the Glazers even care at this point?

Shoop reminds me of Gruden….watch this video…

http://www.wralsportsfan.com/rs/video/1713182/#/vid1713182

Shoop came to Chapel Hill from the Oakland Raiders where he served as Quarterbacks Coach in 2005, the Tight Ends Coach in 2006, and as Offensive Coordinator for the final five games of the 2006 season. Shoop was Quarterbacks Coach for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in 2004 under head coach Jon Gruden. He worked five seasons (1999-2003) for the Chicago Bears under head coach Dick Jauron. He served as the Quarterbacks Coach in 1999 and 2000. He was named Offensive Coordinator for the last four games of the 2000 season. He spent the next three seasons as the Offensive Coordinator (2001-03). Prior to joining the Bears, Shoop spent four seasons with the Carolina Panthers, where he began his NFL coaching career at the age of 25. Shoop was an Offensive Quality Control Assistant for the Panthers in 1995-96. He served as Quarterbacks Coach for Carolina from 1997-98.

I figure 6 wins

This has got to be better than Morris? Right? RIGHT?!?

by aakks on Feb 9, 2012 12:42 PM EST up reply actions

It is better than Morris...

and I wish he were the only problem here. We still have Dom mismanaging the GM position.

by Cracker Ball on Feb 9, 2012 12:54 PM EST up reply actions

Cmon bucs fans

Let’s be honest, Schiano is a step up from Morris, even without extensive NFL experience. If Raheem can win 10 games with this team, anything is possible. I am nervous more than anyone that the coaches we are picking don’t have enough NFL experience but I remain optimistic with an unproven Schiano at the helm. Player development may be slowed but we are in a rebuilding period. This year may or may not be great? We don’t know yet. The best coaches are off the table… But it’s circumstantial. I’d be happy with a 7-9 win season. Then let’s reevaluate. Right now I just want to get our coaches (whoever they may be) and move on

by gmaz1 on Feb 9, 2012 1:22 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I might say 6 wins

but alas, we are not playing the NFC West this year.

….4 wins is reaching…

The Red Tide is coming to Ray Jay

No, not the fish killing organisms. But that same stench should be quite noticeable around Ray Jay this fall. Why does this seem like another coach being promoted beyond his skill level and given little support in the way of staff from the ownership? The disappointment I’m reading from a lot of people on various sites will go defcon4 when/if we blow free agency too. You have to be a masochist anymore to continue supporting this franchise.

the real problem is that the bay area has failed to produce any real wealth

so you end up with a bunch of carpet bagers owning our pro sports teams.

Our only hope is to turn to communism

Have the city take over the teams and make it a community investment, like green bay did.

Can't agree with either statement

But, it does beg the question- In the long term, would Tampa Bay be better off if the Glazers took their underfunded team elsewhere? From my understanding, we would still retain a franchise but under a new ownership group and presumedly, a new name. You have to wonder whether or not that’s what it will take to get any real change in the image and culture at One Buc, er, whatever it would be then.

What owner wouldn't be from out of state and only use it for their own personal gains?

You want a ownership model for small markets with no industry, look towards the communists in Green Bay.

I still believe firing Dungy was the right thing to do...

we had plateaued as a team and he seemingly could take us no further. He wasn’t fired because he sucked (see Rah) but because he could not create an offense good enough to get us over the hump.

Enter Gruden – stage right
