John Shoop interviewing for Buccaneers offensive coordinator position per report
According to Alex Marvez of Fox Sports, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are now going to interview current North Carolina offensive coordinator John Shoop for their offensive coordinator position. The coaching search goes on and on and on, and new names keep popping up. Will Shoop decline to join the Bucs, too?
Aside from serving as the offensive coordinator for the North Carolina Tar Heels until this year, Shoop has spent his entire coaching career in the NFL. From 2001 through 2003 he was the Chicago Bears offensive coordinator. He has been with the Bucs before, as he was Tampa Bay's quarterbacks coach in 2004.
In addition to this interview, Fox Sports reports the Bucs have hired Jimmy Raye II as a "senior offensive assistant", whatever that me. Raye was most recently the offensive coordinator for the San Francisco 49ers under Mike Singletary. He was also the Buccaneers offensive coordinator in 1985 and 1986.

Senior offensive assistant = someone who can show Schiano the ropes for a few years
Oderint dum metuant
good god, this is going to be awful. They are giving Schiano a known loser.
There is no way we won’t be a run first team at this rate.

It's true...
I was in the stands watching those godawful offenses in the mid-late 80’s. I don’t know whether this is a tragedy…or a farce.
So much for the pass first.

"Senior offensive assistant"- New title created day by day

John Shoop might be a worse hire than Ron Turner- what's up with these Bears castoffs anyway?

So I've tried not to panic or overreact, but...
…this is looking more and more like a total clusterf$@#.
Am I going MAD, or did the word "think" escape your lips?
This is exactly what I was afraid of
when they hired Schiano. I want to give the guy a chance, but this has disaster written all over it.

This Whole hiring procedure is a Joke.
I think it’s just a matter of time before Dominik is unemployed. We’re looking at three more years of crap.
We can only hope that this is Dominik's last year at the helm...
This coaching search has been a complete joke and we’re left with scrubs. Meanwhile NO and ATL go out and sign premier defensive coordinators to complement their potent offenses. Chudzinski would’ve made so much more sense than Schiano. At the very least we could’ve somewhat hurt Cam’s development by forcing him to switch coordinators. Instead we take some buck toothed Big East punching bag. F’n awesome.
Good luck Rah. Bring us Mo Claiborne and replace Geno, Quincy, and Sean Jones!
Hopefully Dominik
….will lock up Fank Okam to a multi-year deal for hundreds of millions of dollars.
#quincyblackgotrawdeal
Well this is the norm.
We keep digging through the trashcans for players, now we are doing it with these coaches.
ALL ABOARD THE TRENT RICHARDSON TRAIN!!!
jben05 is spot on with Jimmy Raye being the experienced NFL voice for Schiano. Now as for Shoop, maybe his hiring will lure Butch Davis because of their Tarr Heels ties? It’s a long shot but I’ll take it. Signing Shoop (Assuming he wants the job) is worth it if we can land Butch to fix the defense.
by InfamousHp on Feb 9, 2012 12:59 AM EST via mobile reply actions
I'd take that deal
It’s about time for Schiano to get this wrapped up. March will be here in no time and we need to get coaches in here focusing on the roster.

I still do.
Gruden was not going to get us anywhere. Take a look at the stats/standings under his regime : we made the playoffs only when the defense was among the top 3 in the league. When our D was around #8-10, we would go 5-11 or 6-10. Back then, Bucs successes were on Kiffin, not on Gruden.
Besides, those who said they were missing Chucky last season because of Olsen (admittedly bad) playcalling forgot how predictible Gruden had become. On 1st and 10, he was almost always calling for Cadillac up the middle — for 1 yard, because everybody knew what was coming.
Good thing Jimmy Raye is a senior assistant, NOT an OC
Raye was the 49ers version of Jeff Jagodzinski in 2010.
Jimmy and Jeff are good coaches, but had problems getting plays communicated and both got fired before/during the season.

Why not have a look at Jim Zorn
Like Rah he’s gone back to position coach after being HC of one of the most dysfunctional teams in the league (one of because the Raiders give them a run for Snyder’s money).
Big money Shanahan has done no better, so whilst he might not be a great choice as HC, maybe he’s earned a step up to OC and he’s been passed over in Kansas for that role.
Plus his background is QBs.
Of course getting permission to interview…..
would love this
The only question would be his x’s and o’s. The team didn’t even want him calling plays anymore so that worries me

Fanposts still aren't working?
Anyone know what’s up? It is sbnation wide and happened yesterday after all of sbnation went Jackie Chan. The mobile site still can see the fanposts, but the ordinary site can’t.
People relax this is a business we are still rebuilding
most of these coaches we are looking at are not our first picks so we’re not going to pay big money to someone who isn’t the guy. Plus think about it we did finish late with our search meaning that alot of these coaches we’re looking at now are what i like to call a temp. fit. that’s why they are turning us down they already have a good thing where they are long term wise. So why leave there jobs knowing that the Bucs only may hire them for a year at most. lets keep it real.
Who's fault is it for taking so long?
The Glazers! they knew that taking a long time would leave them with no choice but to hire a poor dc/oc/hc
in my opinion this is what they wanted to do from the beginning to continue to be cheap! I’ll change my mind when they prove the city and all of the great fans otherwise

i agree
this is just showing more and more about the owners
ALL ABOARD THE TRENT RICHARDSON TRAIN!!!
I mean can we blame anybody that doesn't want to come here? Were a joke and the Glazers who are the only ones that can do something about it dont. Derrick Ward seems to be right

About this franchise not caring about winning
by Carlitin1988 on Feb 9, 2012 4:00 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
Agreed
and the systems coaches and players are in have EVERYTHING to do withteir level of success. So maybe they weren’t successful here or anywhere in other systems but doesn’t mean they wont be now. Look at Belichek he wasn’t successful in CLE
When i talk about my team i like to say positive things
and i agree not everything is going good for us but thats why we keep going. Yes we do has some wholes that need fixing but as long as we have great communicators, and great teachers thats where we need to start. with some Vets to help out how to read certain plays/ people etc…. . we go ffrom there in keep building
I'd like to say positive things too.
Just don’t have anything positive to talk about at the moment.
"Put a jersey on!!!" Warren Sapp
positives...
…we still have one of the best stadiums in the NFL. Also, we still have great tailgating areas. Al Lopez park rocks. I still like our unis. The all white ensemble with pewter helmets is still my favorite look. Betting on who will win between the Coke, Diet Coke, and Sprite ships is also a lot of fun. Diet Coke has won me a few beers.
ok..that is all the positives I have.
I agree on the all whites, stadium, and tailgating.
Not so big on the commercialized boat race (I hate Coca-Cola) and I’ve never stepped foot in that park in my life.
"Put a jersey on!!!" Warren Sapp
I want to come to a home game in Tampa.
Bucs play the Redskins this year but not in DC which sucks but I want to come down there next year.
ALL ABOARD THE TRENT RICHARDSON TRAIN!!!
dude...come on down...
….we can tailgate and talk about how great Trent Richardson would be for this team. :)
Bucs wins next year without T-Rich= 2 wins
Bucs wins next year with T-Rich=23.5 wins
That is quite a turnaround...
so I am now on board. Where else can you get 1 1/2 perfect seasons worth of wins in just one season.
keep Faith is all im saying to people
you don’t see a blind man stop walking cause he’s blind if you get where im coming from. i know it can be upsetting when things aren’t done to our liking. But by 2013 the Bucs WILL BE A PLAYOFF TEAM TO BE AFRAID OF.
I am waiting patiently...
for our blind squirrel (Dom) to find a nut.
by Cracker Ball on Feb 9, 2012 10:42 AM EST up reply actions
Dom isn't has bad as people think he's brought in some
players that will one day be Pro-bowlers we just need a coach (Greg Schiano) to crack that whip. T.B.A
I just like to see the glass half full rather than half empty
and from what i see we’re not as bad as people think. I hear people in understand there fustration but all it takes is one lighter to let off a 100 fireworks if you know what i mean

Wasn't Jimmy Raye fired for being predictably sucky?
Just look at Alex Smith now. Has blossomed under somebody not named Jimmy Raye.
by Cracker Ball on Feb 9, 2012 12:56 PM EST up reply actions
I agree, slightly
We have some players, like Mike Williams, And Rejus, McCoy, Clayborn, Freeman, Blount, Penn, Joesph, and Foster looked good at the begining of last year. They need someone too keep them focused, and also some good coaching on fundamentals. We do not have depth at any position though, and our LBing corps was terrible. We need some good linebackers badly.

like i said half full or half empty what ever you put in ur glass is not
the same thats in mine lol but on the good side atleast ur glass is filled with something lol
Nice words of wisdom
but dude this second coaching overhaul in 3 years it dors not get much worse than this.

I'm one of the most optimistic fans on here and right now I'm not even optimistic on this one.
We have some good pieces. But we do have alot of garbage players that need to go. And we need some bonafide proven superstars. Who is our best player? Freeman right? Who is our second best player? Very debatable. Who is our best defensive player? I really dont know.
ALL ABOARD THE TRENT RICHARDSON TRAIN!!!
It Doesn't Get Better
It started with Raheem Morris it’s going to continue with Greg Schiano. He hasn’t even coached a game yet and it’s already looking like the ship is sinking because of the coaching staff he is trying to assemble here. If the Glazers aren’t going to take the team seriously then sell it. All they’re doing is hurting themselves and by doing that your losing the fans in the process. Guess those who go to Bucs games will go with the famous brown paper bag.
I Maybe Wrong But I Doubt It
hey i really dislike the Glazers they remind me of the owner from the movie Major league
but even they overcame a tragedy before they had a great victory no matter how you look at it. We have a good Offensive just need some better blocker to open more hole in give Freeman more time. Defensive we have Clayborne/Bowers/Price(when healthy)/McCoy(when healthy too.) i know people say McCoy gets hurt to much that from lack of focus. Which comes from ur head coach. YOU WORK AS HARD AS UR LEADER DOES. Give it time. alyeah don’t forget about Foster to i just think he’ll be better as a OLB rather than a MLB
This search for offensive coordinator is getting offensive
by bucfanlostiniowa on Feb 9, 2012 2:35 PM EST reply actions 1 recs
I would feel better if we had great players on offense and a bad offensive coordinator, or a great coordinator with bad players.
But its looking like we are going to get stuck with both. Not all the players on offense will be bad but if we dont get at least one superstar playmaker in the draft or FA we are in trouble.
ALL ABOARD THE TRENT RICHARDSON TRAIN!!!
Agreed
If we were in either scenario we would be good, but we’re in a scenario that leaves us screwed up. Both sides of the ball need surgery forget help and our coordinating positions are looking horrible by name alone at this point. This is going to be one horrible season coming up
I Maybe Wrong But I Doubt It

it'd be cool if Jimmy Raye II through tools at the players from a wheelchair-
