Greg Schiano to hire at least three Rutgers assistants per report

According to Alex Marvez of Fox Sports, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers will hire three Rutgers assistants to their coaching staff. Those three assistants are Bob Fraser who will join the staff as a linebackers coach, Brian Agelichio who will be the tight ends coach and Jeff Hafley who will be the assistant defensive backs coach.

Bob Fraser was Schiano's defensive coordinator at Rutgers in the final three seasons of Schiano's reign. Fraser has a background as a linebackers coach, but has never coached in the NFL according to his Rutgers profile. Fraser was the coordinator for some excellent defenses at Rutgers.

Brian Angelichio was the tight ends coach at Rutgers this past season, after serving in the same capacity for the PIttsburgh Panthers for five seasons. Jeff Hafley was a first-year secondary coach at Rutgers but will be taking a step back in Tampa, just like Bob Fraser.

The fact that the Bucs are assembling a staff of assistant coaches likely means they're very close to signing coordinators, as those coordinators must be capable of working with the hired assistants.

hafley: excellent recruiter, not so good coach

angelichio is a very good offensive mind and will one day be an OC somewhere

fraser’s official title at RU was DC but everyone knows greg called the plays. no one’s quite sure how good of a coach he is.

No issue here..

I don’t mind him bringing coaches that he’s comfortable with, and who know he’s the boss. Cohesion within a coaching staff can be just as important to a winning organization as the players, so I’m okay with the hires, especially since Rutgers’ defense has been pretty solid with these guys running it. Now let’s just see how they handle NFLers.

i am not liking this

We need coaches who have good exp. in NFL. Our guys lost respect for coach’s last year, I really feel we need a big name coordinator or we could be in for a repeat of last year.

Pretty much my sentinment.

We’ll take anyone that can read a playbook at this point.

Pathetic they couldn't even consistently beat Cincinnati, Pittsburgh, WVU, Syracuse and UConn

how in the world is this staff going to stop Cam, Brees, and Matty Slice? I want to support Schiano, but come on really?

Good luck Rah. Bring us Mo Claiborne and replace Geno, Quincy, and Sean Jones!

by freeman05 on Feb 7, 2012 3:33 PM EST up reply actions

So assuming we finish 3-13 we might be able to look into Matt Barkley

this is the only positive I see out the Schiano hire.

Good luck Rah. Bring us Mo Claiborne and replace Geno, Quincy, and Sean Jones!

a profound statement

coming from someone with “freeman” as their name.

by akbrown15 on Feb 7, 2012 4:04 PM EST up reply actions

Yes it is I started my account before his rookie season

and would love to see him succeed. Problem is that once his rookie deal expires I’m not so sure we would be best off resigning him long term or looking at Barkley or Jones instead.

Good luck Rah. Bring us Mo Claiborne and replace Geno, Quincy, and Sean Jones!

by freeman05 on Feb 7, 2012 4:24 PM EST up reply actions

Barkley?

…maybe…that guy has a gleem in his eye and just wants to win… Jones? not so much… in my opinion.

by akbrown15 on Feb 7, 2012 4:25 PM EST up reply actions

I'd prefer Barkley over Jones also but I didn't put too much thought into my comment.

Just rattling off two of the better quarterbacks going into next years draft.

Good luck Rah. Bring us Mo Claiborne and replace Geno, Quincy, and Sean Jones!

I'm not a fan of either program

And when I think QB & USC I think Matt Leinhart or even worse Mark “I Can’t Stand The Rain” Sanchez, two jokes with no punchline.

Okay, if Freeman has a bad year as go after

Denard Robinson. His pass game is improving and he will put butts in seats.

I could care less about a players ability to put butts in the seats.

I want players who put W’s in the win column.

I personally couldn’t, but I believe he could.

I'm ok with this

as most coaches practive nepotism. I just hope we get someone really special at OC to revitalize out offense. we have the (talented) students, we just need the teacher.

No Experience

Where are the NFL coaches when you need them he bringing all of Rutgers with him at least hire someone who has done something in the NFL Schiano

I Maybe Wrong But I Doubt It

by DeLaNegro on Feb 7, 2012 3:32 PM EST reply actions

Madness

I’ll take whomever Schiano’s willing to bring in to develop this team. NFL experience or not all his staff candidates named thus far have more football experience than our last HC.

dispite the chalenge findin coaches...

I’m still optimistic. I think this year was about as bad as it can get. We struggled in the 4 wins we managed to get yet we could’ve just as easily went 1-15 or 2-14. I think with a few “key” additions via FA and another good draft class well be fine. I always thought Shiano was a good coach I think he’ll do fine; I’m still hoping for Davis or Levett to emerge as our DC. I’d consider this season a win if we got back to .500 this year.

by ctd1977 on Feb 7, 2012 3:55 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I actually believe it COULD get worse...

when can we start the Mock Drafts for 2013?

Just allow me to check my Mayan calander for openings…

by Cracker Ball on Feb 9, 2012 10:53 AM EST up reply actions

So can we start a petition begging the Glazer boys

to please sell the team and focus on kick ball. Clearly the three stooges and Marky boy are in over their heads running an NFL franchise. This team is simply a pocket liner for the Glazers, winning isn’t important profits are.

Good luck Rah. Bring us Mo Claiborne and replace Geno, Quincy, and Sean Jones!

I think they should invest in a lingerie team

Money makers all over the field just shaking and looking mighty fine

Would've been more entertaining than the home games last year...

It’s sad when opposing teams fan outnumber you at Ray Jay.

Thats really one of the Glazer's

in the whitie tidies shoving it in our face…. even on the blog they find ways to give it to us.

by BucfaninAZ on Feb 7, 2012 4:23 PM EST up reply actions

I agree; new ownership would be nice...

However sadly, I don’t see these clowns ever selling this team; this is their cash cow. These guys literally have short arms and deep pockets; their reluctance to spent money has hurt this franchise greatly. As fans we’re all totally screwed; these guys make money/profit no matter what; regardless of attendance/ticket sells/blackouts/etc. So, with that said they have absolutely no incentive to put/keep a winning product on the field. The Glazers have proven over and over again that winning isn’t top priority here; We have without a doubt “THE” worst ownership in the NFL bar none.

by ctd1977 on Feb 7, 2012 4:25 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Yeah such a shame that TV revenue contract rewards everyone...

I’ll be surprised if we’re on any primetime games but regardless the Glazers have no incentive to sell which means we as Buc fans are screwed. Hopefully in a few years when their forced to spend they will sell.

Good luck Rah. Bring us Mo Claiborne and replace Geno, Quincy, and Sean Jones!

this

It’s almost impossible to lose money with an NFL franchcise, no matter how many butts are in the seats.

by akbrown15 on Feb 7, 2012 4:27 PM EST up reply actions

The NFL is actually considering putting every team on at least once during prime time.

Not sure that we could even sell out that game now.

they got hired

mostly as position coaches and looks like they got demoted, something big may be in the works in terms of OC/DC which I am betting they alreay have and just haven’t announced yet.

by Gobucsgo on Feb 7, 2012 5:57 PM EST up reply actions

I'm alright with this for position coaches

He’s going to need some people he’s familiar with. I just hope we don’t whiff on OC/DC.

by aakks on Feb 7, 2012 7:24 PM EST reply actions

Bob Fraser as LB coach

With blitz packages working with Watson could be exciting. His input on getting the right ILB and moving Foster to an outside position could do wonders. Maybe he can find all that potential in Quincy which has yet to appear. Getting them all to tackle would be nice.
