Foiled Again: Packers refuse Bucs permission to interview Ben McAdoo
The search for quality assistant coaches is starting to become comical. Whether the Tampa Bay Buccaneers are being blocked or whether assistants just don't want to join the staff, the Bucs are having one hell of a hard time finding the right assistant coaches.
This time, the Green Bay Packers blocked the Buccaneers from interviewing TE coach Ben McAdoo from interviewing for the offensive coordinator job, according to Jason La Canfora. It's interesting that McAdoo's name hadn't surfaced in relation to the Bucs, and that they've consistently been rumored to want Rutgers offensive coordinator John McNulty. Once again Tampa Bay is keeping their real list of candidates under wraps, as they did throughout the head coaching search.
But that head coaching search took nearly a month, and the length of that search seems to be preventing the Bucs from getting the coaches they really want. Who could have guessed that that would happen?

By the end of this...
I fear Sander will have exhausted all pithy headlines centered on the “we’re screwed” sentiment. Save some for the season, man!
Follow me @worldwidemaldo.
This is a solid example of how bad our ownership is.
They are trying to find coaches who will be paid a lower rate and have a terrible termination clause in their contracts. I can’t wait to see what kind of garbage we bring in from free agency.
Love Buccaneers - Hate Glazer
Comical - nice word choice
This isn’t the black eye on the organization that we saw with people like Phillips/Kelly/Quinn and probably several others we didn’t hear about. However, this is just more proof they went way too slow and hired a guy who was going to have big problems assembling a staff.
For me, it's really not funny.
It’s starting to make me angry at the ineptitude of this organization.

Some of our problems probably do have something to do with the Glazers being cheap,
But I also think that a big part of our issues with finding assistants willing to coach here is that we just hired a Head Coach with very little NFL experience. The HC experience he does have comes from a smaller college, and he didn’t even dominate his weak competition. Now I’m not saying he is going to fail here, he may even be very good, but I dont think we would be having this many problems hiring a staff if we would of hired Marty as our HC.

I dont think it would help us a lot in hiring a staff,
But how would you guys feel about bringing in Marty as the assistant HC. I think his experience would be very valuable to have on staff.

it would be awesome but it's not gonna happen
they should have hired marty as the head coach and give the assistant tag to schiano since marty would retire in a few years and schiano could take over after having a couple years of nfl experience

That would have been great.
Working behind someone like Marty would be so valuable for an up and coming coach.

I like this MattW
Probably not realistic, but certainly an option. I wanted Marty to begin with for all his experience. Considered his ability to get solid coordinators and coaches, but truly did not think we would have this much trouble finding coaches!! With all the interviews the Bucs did, I just assumed they had a plan and they were secretly interviewing some of these guys for coordinator positions and that they would hire some of them. But they all have gone to other teams basically saying " I would rather be a coordinator for anyone BUT the Bucs". Makes me wonder

Those were and are my thoughts exactly.
A coordinator job in the NFL is so coveted, that I thought there would be a line of great coaches begging to be hired. But that was before this coaching search. This process has me really concerned with our owners. I was worried before all this but now it’s going to take a lot of persuading for me to have confidence in the owners again.

Marty would tell the Glazers to "Suck It" now...
They have flubbed this HC hire up – again. Schottenheimer is not going to come in and save the day now. We (meaning The Fabulous Glazer Boys) should have considered all of this a little more carefully. The “top secret” nature of their coaching hires probably has more to do with public perception/rejection/relations aspect, than it does for being amazingly stealthy in some way.
Would he have been a good candidate?
Don’t know much about him.
by bucswillwin on Feb 7, 2012 11:55 AM EST via mobile reply actions
He had problems winning in the playoffs,
But I would rather have that problem, over not making them at all. The year he was fired I think he went 14-2.

I'm on my phone,
So sometimes it is hard to keep track of the conversations.

I know this is way off topic but,
When I watch a great NFL Quarterback, something that really separates them from other quarterbacks is their ability to run the offense. Someone like Eli is able to read the defense, and check into a better play. Can Josh Freeman do this well? I know he does check out of plays but he doesn’t seem to have a lot success with it. I might be way off, and if I am please correct me, but in my opinion he really needs to work on this. Some of it may of been the coaching, so hopefully with a new staff he will improve.

This was not supposed to be a reply.
I’m trying to get used to commenting on my phone. Sorry about that.

I think he can, yes
He does a good job with protections and identifying blitzers. Checking into and out of the right plays probably just comes with more experience.
I hope so.
I think your right. After he gets some more experience, he will become more confident. I think if he becomes more skilled at reading defenses, his overall play will greatly improve.

this is from the rutgers football premium message board:
this was posted by the moderator at the rutgers football message board, when asked why greg is trying to poach RU assistants:
“I know I am not paid to give my opinions around here, but I think it is because he knows he isn’t going to coach his way to victory on game day — the same thing deep down he knew when he was at Rutgers. To win, Greg needs to outwork you — he needs assistants that are going to outwork your assistants. He expects a level of dedication that few people are willing to give. As one former pro just told me, some of these pro guys expect to be on the golf course by 2PM in the offseason. Greg would never stand for that. It’s just the way he is — he has to surround himself with people who will accept his authority and be willing to work as hard (or about as hard) as he is. Those types of people aren’t easy to find. When he finds them, he tries to keep them.”
there are six job postings on the rutgers HR site for assistant coaches. chances are you will see all of them on the tampa bay staff.
I don't want to get in a debate about some random posting on a rutgers message board but
this is exactly why the coordinator hires were so critical, and why I’m so nervous that they’re being botched.
... and that's when we became "Rutgers South"
ugh! Damn you Glazers and your ineptitude.
You shant be receiving any of my monies directly. Suck that.
not quite
the knock on greg at RU was his poor game-day coaching. the man could build a program and recruit with the best of them, but on game-day (and game-day preparation), he left something to be desired. occasionally greg would be stubborn to make halftime adjustments, and his teams have suffered from let-down games (a 20 point beatdown by an inferior uconn team this year when a win would have given us our first big east title comes to mind).
schematically, his defenses are actually quite complex.
Yeah, I've heard some rumblings about his game management
His defenses are decent. Lot of pre-snap movement and blitzes from what I’ve seen. But it’s not anything that’s going to cause major issues for NFL teams.
tampa is having a hard time getting coaches to come here
I can only assume its going to be even harder to get free agents to come. Even if tb is active in fa how are they going to sell the team to high profile free agents. Other than offer a ton of cash which doesnt seem to be the glazer way I dont know if any top free agents will want to come

In retrospect, Chip Kelly made the right choice
No NFL experience. No NFL network to hire the “right” staff.
Most of his assistants are more “Oregon guys” than “Kelly guys”, meaning they probably would have never come across the country to join him.
Marty Schottenheimer was the correct choice...
we will now all live with the concequences of the Glazer decision for another 3 years.
no, it wasn't
there is a reason no other nfl team wanted marty

ssssSSSShhhhHHHHHH ! !
We don’t want any other teams knowing we need coaches yet. lmfao
I think we are just going old school
Let Schiano run out there and coach everybody! Glazers can have people pay crazy amount of money to view the game from the coordinators booth..please somebody say that Butch Davis hasn’t already told us to get lost..?
Fire up that Blount!

Why has Eric Mangini name for OC/Asst. HC never been thrown around??
Judging by his film breakdown on ESPN I’m pretty sure he would more than willing to jump back into coaching, I actually think he misses it unlike Dungy and Cowher.
He's a defensive guy, actually
Other than that, who knows? Doesn’t seem like teams are eager to hire him.
Really? I thought he was offensive
Hence the name Eric Man"genius"?? Well I could be wrong im not too certain but he would be a good addition to this coaching staff bringing in experience that we are so desperately lacking on the team and in the staffing.
Its easy to sit back
And evaluate whats going on on the field, which is what eric is doing. But coaches earn most of their money buy what they do in the moment, don’t like eric when it comes to that aspect of the game

Yeah thats true
But he was successful as a coordinator with NYJ, cant blame him for bombing in CLE though because who deosnt?? Even the great Belichik had to leave to acheive greatness.
On a second thought
He may be more fit as a dc. One things fosure watching him on espn and listening to him on espn radio this guy has great knowledge of the game
by keysersoze19 on Feb 7, 2012 2:20 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
Yeah thats what I was saying
He is very knowledgeable of the NFL and schemes and if we ever played the Patriots we would definitly have a leg up. Just the way he talks on tv he seems as if he misses the sidelines, like he is only doing ESPN because his phone hasnt rung yet
