Combine week!
This week hopefully starts answering some more questions for us. Could shake up a lot of mocks and the discussions we’ve been having. Then free agency is right around that corner. After that we should have a much better idea of where we’re going.
I like Stevie Johnson but I'm a little worried that he would be a prima donna.
I’d rather go after Colston simply because it hurts the Saints and gives us a guy who has spent his entire career playing with winners. At 28 years old, I think we could get at least 4 good years from him.
Love Buccaneers - Hate Glazer
Colston has had a gazillion knee surgeries
And I think Stevie Johnson is a much better talent anyway.
I don’t think his attitude is a big problem. He had a grand total of three celebration penalties. Whatever.
There is no doubt that Johnson has greater potential but Colston would be a monster in the redzone.
Johnson is only 25 years old and can certainly spread the field but I just see him as another diva receiver. Sure, I could be be wrong but I’d rather take a guy that is 6’4 and presents routine matchup problems for opponents.
Love Buccaneers - Hate Glazer
Really? Because I've seen plenty of stories over the years involving arrogant receivers causing problems with their teams.
Love Buccaneers - Hate Glazer
Yes, those are exceptions
And most of that drama is likely overblown, anyway.
A lot of receivers have some ‘diva’ in them. That doesn’t make them bad players or problems for the team.
Colston's nickname is The Quiet Storm because of his reserved demeanor.
Take that for what it’s worth, but I like him a lot and I think that his work ethic would be a great example for Benn and Williams. His size alone would give Freeman extra confidence.
Love Buccaneers - Hate Glazer
I would love to have Marques Colston...
Minus the plethora of knee surgeries. Those give me reason to pause and plus the Bucs need a reciever that can stretch the field. Colston doesn’t really offer that dimension.
I'm not a big Colston fan
He’s essentially a receiving tight end who can’t block. He doesn’t really present an outside or speed threat. Johnson is that kind of player.
I have 0 reason to believe that Johnson isn’t an extremely hard worker, by the way.
I would prefer Johnson over Colston big time.
The guy is an underrated talent and who cares about the excessive celebration penalties? It’s not like he has character issues for Schiano to be worried about. Also, I seriously doubt that the Bills will use the franchise tag on him. I believe it would cost 9.4 million for the team to do so and that would leave the Bills cap-strapped with little room to improve other areas of their roster.
I remember Johnson going head to head with Revis on several occasions this year
and winning. He may not be super big or super fast, but he is quick and gets open. He can work on his hands, but he already runs crisp routes.

Thats Not The Type Of WR We Need .............. We Need This Type .........................
If We Cant Get A Mike Wallace Or Desean Jackson Type Of Wr …….
We Might Is Well Wait To The Draft In Get In Position Or Hope For A Scenario Where We Draft One Of These Guys :
1. Kendall Wright / Baylor
2. Tommy Streeter / Miami
3. Travis Benjamin / Miami
4. Stephen Hill / Georgia Tech
5. Ty Hilton / Fiu
6. Ryan Broyles / Oklahoma
7. Joe Adams / Arkansas
8. Jarius Wright / Arkansas
9. Greg Childs / Arkansas
10. Danny Coale / V-tech
Comment : All these guys showed they can get seperation in college .
Some will need good 40 times at the combine to confirm it .
But this is the mold of wr we need to add , They fit the role we need to be filled .
by RIP SEAN TAYLOR 21 on Feb 20, 2012 12:30 PM EST up reply actions
Good comment.
I like all of those guys. Most underrated, to me, is Broyles. After he went down, Landry Jones looked average. Hopefully he can come back from his knee injury. He is a playmaker that runs great routes and has awesome hands. He is super quick, with enough speed to be a threat deep. Looks to be Wes Welker 2.0
by flash_kiley on Feb 20, 2012 12:33 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
The Key With Him Is ......
He is victor cruz fast not a burner but he can get seperation .
Lmao this post was for all the people who think cruz is in wallace/jackson class of speed .
by RIP SEAN TAYLOR 21 on Feb 20, 2012 12:41 PM EST up reply actions
Ha there is no way the cruz has speed like Wallace or Jackson.
That’s asinine. Cruz is fast, but is quicker than fast with a knack for highlight plays.
by flash_kiley on Feb 20, 2012 12:42 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
Thank You
That was my point , They were trying to make it seem like he all world class speed because he got a 99yard td .
In that case wes welker is all world class speed too ….
by RIP SEAN TAYLOR 21 on Feb 20, 2012 12:48 PM EST up reply actions
Welker is fast too. He is probably one of the best slot receivers in the NFL.
Love Buccaneers - Hate Glazer
Welker is the best slot recievwr in the NFL.
But he isn’t fast, he is quick and runs sharp routes. I’m not saying he is slow, but saying he is fast is comparing him to Jeremy Maclin or Jacoby Ford.
by flash_kiley on Feb 20, 2012 12:56 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
He is fast considering that he isn't generally used to stretch the field. He burns past most linebackers.
Love Buccaneers - Hate Glazer
What? That isn't really an argument.
He flies by linebackers? The major majority of receivers fly by linebackers. As well as most receiving tight ends.
by flash_kiley on Feb 20, 2012 1:05 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
Why is this that hard to understand? Welker is used in a lot of dink & dunk pass situations and he excels at it because of his shifty speed.
Love Buccaneers - Hate Glazer
Sure, but he doesn't stretch the field
He’s fast compared to linebackers, but so is Mike Williams. It’s not a real useful statement.
Shifty speed is different than deep speed.
Way different. I agree Welker has shifty speed, but not deep speed. He is fast in and out of his breaks, but doesn’t scare anyone deep.
by flash_kiley on Feb 20, 2012 1:15 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
You're missing my point. I said that he is fast considering he isn't used as their deep threat.
He can turn on a dime and a typical 4 yard gains are often turned into 10, 15 yard gains.
Love Buccaneers - Hate Glazer
To me, what you are saying is described as quick, not fast.
Regardless, I get your point.
by flash_kiley on Feb 20, 2012 1:23 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
Getting separation, and having world-class speed, are not the same...
Jerry Rice was not a blazer by any stretch, but created separation with his crisp route running and stutter-step moves. Ditto with Steve Largent. I like the idea of adding Stevie Johnson because he does have the great speed.
by Cracker Ball on Feb 20, 2012 12:54 PM EST up reply actions
Stevie Johnson & Mike Williams Are Too Much Alike .......
They both can run routes to get seperation but neither of them are fast , More crafty if anything .
by RIP SEAN TAYLOR 21 on Feb 20, 2012 1:00 PM EST up reply actions
Yes but Johnson repeatedly got open despite double teams last year.
Can’t say the same for Williams. And can you name a receiver on the Bills other than Johnson? It’s difficult.
by flash_kiley on Feb 20, 2012 1:02 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
Exactly.
Not really a gamebreaker. That means almost all the attention was in Johnson, and he still produced. That is needed here badly.
by flash_kiley on Feb 20, 2012 1:06 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
Nelson is their #2 receiver. Don't discount the valuable roll that he had in their offense.
Love Buccaneers - Hate Glazer
Nelson would be maybe our 3rd best receiver on our team.
Possibly fourth or fifth. The fact that he was the #2 for the Bills tells you enough about their receiving core.
by flash_kiley on Feb 20, 2012 1:17 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
That's your opinion and I realize that we all view players differently
But I think Nelson is better than Benn and you could make a solid case that he has more potential than Williams (based on his terrible 2011 performance).
Love Buccaneers - Hate Glazer
Yeah He Gets Open But Not Fast ...... But Better Then I Thought After Watching His Highllights
by RIP SEAN TAYLOR 21 on Feb 20, 2012 1:05 PM EST up reply actions
He's the only player to consistently get open against Darrelle Revis
He’s a real, genuine outside threat.
Exactly
He is a legit #1 receiver. Williams would flourish in the #2 role, and could play the slot if we went three wide, with Benn playing the other outside receiver. Johnson, Williams, and Benn would provide a great young, talented set each specializing in different things.

In What Happens To Our Most Talented WR In ...
Dezmon Briscoe
Film To Prove It : http://www.buccaneers.com/multimedia/videos/Up-and-Coming-Bucs-WR-Dezmon-Briscoe/2628a49b-cf9a-44ee-a2ec-7a9d63f3474c
by RIP SEAN TAYLOR 21 on Feb 20, 2012 1:20 PM EST up reply actions
Briscoe is not the Bucs' most talented receiver
Lacks speed and shiftiness. He’s a useful possession receiver in a west coast style offense. The most talented receiver on the team is pretty easily Arrelious Benn.
Briscoe can be rotated in.
So can Parker. If Briscoe and Parker are our fourth and fifth receivers, we are doing pretty good. Remember back when we were putting our hopes in guys like Paris Warren and Maurice Stovall?…good grief
by flash_kiley on Feb 20, 2012 1:26 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
Benn is bigger, faster, more physical, more explosive
He’s more talented. At this point he’s also less skilled than Briscoe.
You are both right.
More skilled as a receiver-Briscoe
More physically gifted-Benn
They are two different arguments.
Jerry Rice was a much better receiver than Terrell Owens, but Owens was more physically gifted.
by flash_kiley on Feb 20, 2012 1:34 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
I usually equate 'talent' to physical gifts
Jamarcus Russell was ridiculously talented. He just didn’t do anything with it.
I don't see him blowing up the combine, so that's possible.
And the fact that MLB tend to drop. Hopefully him or Dante Hightower will be available in the second. Either would be a great addition, and way more natural Mike than Foster. I can’t really blame Foster for his tough season. He was placed at the hardest position on defense right out of the gate, and it wasn’t his natural position either. He would excel at the Will.
by flash_kiley on Feb 20, 2012 12:53 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
I'm not a big Hightower fan
I like Kuechly a lot. He will NOT blow up the combine, his game is based on smarts, instinct, and wonderful fundamentals. I’d love him in the second round, but I think he probably goes mid-late first. Maybe as early as the eagles.
We’ll see on Foster. I have serious doubts he can play Will.
That's what he played in college
and if you look at his highlight tape part of it is him playing Will. He played pretty good at that position, but that’s just my opinion.
by flash_kiley on Feb 20, 2012 12:58 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
Ha good point.
Maybe the Sam then, I’m just not a big fan of him at the Mike. Hopefully he proves me wrong.
by flash_kiley on Feb 20, 2012 1:04 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
I wouldn't mind seeing him take a shot at Sam
I don’t know if he can do it, but he can’t be worse than Black!
Stevie Johnson Please!
If his one knock is what he does AFTER he gets into the end-zone, isn’t enough for me to ignore his talents. We should pounce if the Bills let him loose.

I believe he played a FS position in SF...
which is not to say that he can’t come here and make the switch. I also like Tyvon Branch (OAK) who is already a SS. Either one upgrades us.

Or Mark Barron in the second round. Or George Iloka in the third.

Ah... but Sean Jones also sucked when we signed him.

by Cracker Ball on Feb 20, 2012 4:12 PM EST up reply actions
Not really
Sean Jones was a solid but unspectacular safety when the team signed him. Not unlike, say, Tyvon Branch.
There are some comparisons to be made, sure
Mostly my point is that Sean Jones didn’t look that bad when he signed.
And really didn't look that bad his first season here.
His first year in Tampa, he was exactly what we though he would be: a solid safety, but not anything special.
So we are going to get rid of someone to replace him with someone else similar?
If thats the case we might as well resign him for cheap and keep him. I like Jones as a backup early and if Grimm goes down again. Or draft one.
ALL ABOARD THE TRENT RICHARDSON TRAIN!!!
Because we can, and likely will, do better...
Sean Jones is nothing special, which is why he was available from PHI. They drafted S Nate Allen to replace Jones and that was that.

This may be off topic but....
Here’s how I have the coaching staff, so correct me if I’m wrong..
Head Coach: Greg Schiano
Offensive Coordinator: Mike Sullivan
Quarterbacks: ?
Running Backs: Earnest Byner
Wide Recievers: P.J. Fleck
Tight Ends: Brian Angelichio
Offensive Line: Bob Bostad
Senior Offensive Assistant: Jimmy Raye II
Defensive Coordinator: Bill Sheridan
Defensive Line: Randy Melvin
Linebackers: Bob Fraser
Assistant Linebackers (OLB): Tem Lukabu
Defensive Backs: ?
Assistant Defensive Backs: Jeff Hafley
Defensive Assistant: Bryan Cox
Assistant to the Head Coach: Butch Davis (not coaching but I thought I would throw that in anyway, since he may help out with the defense)
Special Teams Coordinator: ?
Haven't seen Tem Lukabu, Randy Melvin or Jay Butler mentioned by credible sources
Seems about right otherwise. I’d also expect Bryan Cox to be the D-line coach.
Those name were mentioned by....
Steve Duemig of 620WDAE The Sports Animal.http://www.620wdae.com/pages/bucs.html?article=9732766
Sounded pretty convincing to me, sorry to disagree.
In any case, this has the look of a strong staff, and although most fans may gripe about the slow pace of the coaching hires, you can’t hire the best staff possible within the short span of a week or two weeks. Patience is a virtue, and more times than not, it tends to be rewarded. I’ve been very impressed with Schiano from the moment that he took the podium as the head coach. Hopefully, this will lead to a turn around.
You could be right
It’s just that I’m a little wary when it comes to radio reports, especially when they then are never confirmed by any other outlet.
I'm rather critical of that choice too.
The defensive side of the ball from a coaching staff standpoint and a personnel standpoint present a massive wild card. I’ll give Sheridan a chance though, considering that Schiano will have his hands all over this defense.
I like Stevie Johnson...
Deep Threat…

Mike williams , Rejus benn , Dezmon briscoe , & Stevie johnson how are they any diffrent from each other ?
Neither run 4.40 , They all have a similar skill set as a possession wideouts that ocassionally beat press coverage for big plays .

I don't think we should pursue that unless we miss on free agency
Why give up a pick when we can get CBs in free agency for nothing but cap space? He’d be a great backup option if we can’t score free agents though.
Stanford Routt signed with the Chiefs.
Meaning Carr will almost definitely head to free agency. I don’t see them trying to keep him, with Routt and Flowers already on the roster.
by flash_kiley on Feb 20, 2012 1:31 PM EST via Android app reply actions
So if teams are already grabbing corners, why aren't we in the mix?
That means Bowe will almost certainly be franchised.
Who knows?
Reports were Bills, Bengals, Chiefs were talking to him. Quite possible the Bucs just aren’t interested in this particular player.
I cannot agree with that
We should be talking with as many of these guys if we can. We need 2 badly. Already rumors out that Finnegan wants to go to St Louis and Carr wants to go to detroit (just rumors, but still). “A lot of cornerbacks” can change to “nothing left but trash” very, very quickly.
It's still a month until free agency actually starts
And the team has likely already had discussions with the agents of the cornerbacks they may be targeting. That’s how the NFL works.
So you don't think we should have even looked at him?
I’d gladly take plugging a hole a month early.
Routt set up interviews, and we weren't one of them.
Sucks but just that simple. He could have come here and started immediately.
by flash_kiley on Feb 20, 2012 1:41 PM EST via Android app up reply actions
Routt was the only significant name on the market
Free agency isn’t open yet, but Routt was cut so he was fair game.

My Thing Is If We Are Suppose To Have Such This Great Solid D-line That Doesnt Need Any Help Down There Then Why Are We ....
Really stressing the cornerback position .
I know we do need to add 1 , But im a talib supporter so say he comeback , And barber . We sign a solid safety .
We would be okay , The secondary is only as good as the defensive line make them .
Plus you gotta give guys like biggers , lewis , mack , & gaitor a bit of hope under a staff like this , Coaching coulda been a big part of there developing .
Because a guy i thought was good that didnt really get a shot was larry asante so we will see .
by RIP SEAN TAYLOR 21 on Feb 20, 2012 2:06 PM EST reply actions
You have to plan on Talib and Ronde being gone
If Talib is innocent and is able to stick around (and they still want him), then great. however, he did not have a great season last year, fought injuries, might be in jail or at least suspended, and might have another incident at any moment.
You have to plan as if we are losing our top 2 corners, and then add to that the fact that we really needed a corner upgrade even if we weren’t. We HAVE to stress corner. There is no choice.
Ok
It Makes More Sense Now Thanks …
