backup replacements for secondary
Ronde Barber will likely not continue is reign of terror and our shut down corner Aquib Talib will likely not either.. when it comes to speed though, we actually have depth at these possitions... (stay with me, ill explain).
1. E. J. Biggers. Throughout the season, tampa has been rotating him into the lineup. He has showed decent quickness with a nose for the ball... I think they used him as more of a slot possition inside, and (based off of last years 'no heart' performance) has been somewhat difficult to evaluate, but i think this guy has potential; not the stupid potential that will never come about but potential as in, startability.
2. Elbert Mack and Anthony Gaitor. These are the guys the rotate in when speed is required such as long distance 3rds downs and such.. Granted, i would not neccesarily feel as comfortable starting these three next season without any FA pickups, my point is simple- these guys are NFL caliber.
Last thought- Two guys I seriously dont want in FA- 1. (these names are big by the way) Cortland Finnegan. Sander PLEASE back me up on this.. I love Freeman, but it will be so hard to ruit for this team is Finnegan is a Buc. The last thing the locker room needs is a loose cannon and a jerk to top it off.. The other name is Desean Jackson.. When things dont go his way, he quits worse then Randy Moss and on top of that, isnt anywhere as gifted. BAD ATTITUDES WOULDNT LAST LONG IN MY LOCKER ROOM (if i was head coach or GM).
thanks tell me what you think

I love Cortland Finnegan, and I don't think he'd be a bad guy in the locker room at all
Yes, Finnegan plays a little dirty and provokes the opponent. But there’s a difference between playing dirty and being a bad guy. By all accounts he’s a very hard worker, a leader and a terrific guy off the field.
What he does on the field he does to help win games. He’s a nasty player, yes. Maybe even dirty. He tries to get under opponents’ skin. But I don’t mind any of that as long as it helps his team win, and it does.
He doesn’t have a bad attitude at all. He’s not lazy, or a jerk, or disruptive on a team. He’s just dirty on the field. There’s a huge difference.
Agreed...
I have heard nothing about Finnegans off-field issues. Seems to leave that stuff on the playing field.

OK. Let's get him in FA and Clairborne in the draft.
Biggers, Mack and Gaitor can nickle it and backup. I still like Ronde moving to safety. He and Grimm could be a dynamic duo.

You have no size at all at safety if you do that
Ronde struggles to hold up in the box anyway. I really don’t see moving him to safety working out, to be honest.
Plus
Safeties need good closing speed, Barber at his age couldnt do whats expected of a safety. He is a nickel back at best.
Shucks. I just seem to remember some corners moving to safety
when they get long in the tooth. Having his experience on the field somewhere just seems like a good idea to me. I’m not convinced T-Jack will make the big comeback. But good points you both make. Darn it all.

Ronde is no safety...
and Grimm has too many holes in his game. We need to sign one (Tyvon Branch is a good choice) and let Grimm back-up and special team it.
by Cracker Ball on Feb 19, 2012 4:59 PM EST up reply actions
I would still like Grimm at Safety to start but i would like some real competition at SS
I dont want a Sean Jones type guy to come in either. Dont know much about Tyvon Branch to judge him though.
ALL ABOARD THE TRENT RICHARDSON TRAIN!!!
He is a UFA and can be signed by anybody...
He would solve our SS problem – stat. If T-Jack return to his old form, we could actually be in very good shape at S.
Sounds funny to say that…
by Cracker Ball on Feb 22, 2012 10:41 AM EST up reply actions
I think T-jack
just needs to get back into football shape and would benefit from OTA’s etc. Tyvon Branch at SS would be nice, gives us a physical SS that can drop in the box and help with the run.
Agreed and for Safety I like Landry
I watched a Interview with Finnegan and he’s all about winning and helping his team and he spoke very well.Don’t let on field confuse off field.I actually like his tough physical playing ability he fits our approach and he gets into a receivers head which throws them off.And as for safety Landry would fit the bill very well Although I doubt he could still run low 4.3’s he covers alot of field and he’s a big hitter like Lynch and it would give us a 2nd potential LSU guy (Claiborne;) )
Who wouldnt want this on there team???

i like landry
pleeeease dont get me wrong.. finnegan may be a hard worker.. im not talking about off the field issues because, quite honestly, Aquib Talib has many… but, i think hes a punk and i dont want him. period. WE HAVE OPTIONS.. Brandon Carr from Kansas City would be my pick..
Landry is still hurt (his achilles) and has opted to not have surgery
he is “resting” it instead – which may not work out for him. We need to look at other options.
by Cracker Ball on Feb 19, 2012 5:01 PM EST up reply actions
That was his choice... but I bet he ends up having it anyway
That is why, though I would love to see him healthy here, I have been leaving him out of the “what S should we go get” discussions.
by Cracker Ball on Feb 20, 2012 1:10 PM EST up reply actions
I've been concerned about his achilles
but I thought he was getting the surgery right after the season ended. No way would I take a chance on him knowing he skipped it.
Actually, skipping that surgery is likely to help him
Surgery is invasive and possibly damaging. Neglecting to have surgery can take a longer time to heal, but it can also heal more cleanly.
And I do agree
I would Like to have Carr or Grimes or Tracy Porter But I would still love the Bucs if they ended up with Finnegan and draft Claiborne go after Landry,Griffin or Branch plus jackson and our Secondary is solid again.

I agree.
Finnegan is a good tough that we need honestly. No off the field issues. Hes a guy you want on your team but hate to play against.
ALL ABOARD THE TRENT RICHARDSON TRAIN!!!
Hes a winner he wants to win, when he doesn't win hes not happy. Ill take a guy like that. Hes football nasty but a nice person and many people don't know this but an awesome role model off the field.

Agreed, and he is a master at throwing WRs off their game...
would be an incredible addition here. There are 3 or 4 that I wouldn’t mind having here.

WHY IS IT..
..that everyone has forgottan Cortlend Finnegan was the player that started a fight on the field with one of the most liked, and most talented WRs in the game, only to become his punching bag.. he wasnt putting on an act, he was being himself because when they Andre let go, Cort started clapping like a cry baby since he couldent do anything because he knew he lost…. what is he gonna say if he was to sit down for a job interview with mark dominic and greg schiano about that scenario? greg isnt the type of guy that wants him, talent or no talent because believe it or not – TALENT ISNT THE ONLY THING EVALUATED FOR ROSTER SLOTS…. guess what- N. Suh does alot of charity work as well… i dont respect punks.. thats what these players are…
Duly noted.
You don’t like punks.
But guys that play mind games can be very successful in sports. Whether or not you like them on a personal level why would you not want a a talented player on your team helping you win? In basketball it’s almost common practice to try to get under your opponent’s skin. It probably goes on in football more than you think.
Anyway, with the exception of the Andre Johnson whipping, what has Finnegan done that you take such umbrage with?
Am I going MAD, or did the word "think" escape your lips?
Cortland Finnegan does that stuff because it riles up the opponent
It gets them off their game, and that helps him win games.
TEN is farther down the road to respectability...
that we are. Finnegan is a great player on a “meh” team. That happens a lot. See Namdi on the Raiders (or PHI – Ha).
by Cracker Ball on Feb 22, 2012 2:27 PM EST up reply actions
This is ridiculous.
Deion Sanders started a fight with Andre Rison, so now is he a bad locker room guy? Is he a nasty player? No, he is a man pumped with adrenaline and testosterone, just like Cortland Finnegan was. Cortland would bring some grit to this defense. We need a little bit of nasty on our defense. Too many times were we pushed around last year. Finnegan would add to Clayborn and GMac as a leader and voice on this defense.
by flash_kiley on Feb 19, 2012 10:33 PM EST via Android app reply actions
Yea
Finnegan doesn’t look like the type of player that will let his teammates quit. He aint playin that. Ask jeff fischer if he wasnt thrilled to see andre johnson off the field. Plus andre johnson is very calm and humble. the fact that he was able to get under his skin tells you the man gets into opponents heads.

finnegan..
threw steve smith by his helmet and hit chris kuper with his helmet off.. ( i know other players have had similar experiences as well if i was to examine them as closely).. honestly, i didnt like him doing what he was doing to Andre because i like Andre… Ever played a scrimmage game with a guy that just wont shut his mouth? its annoying… i dont want to win games because we have a loud mouth.. Andre kept his mouth shut, and even won the fist fight.. Peyton manning gets in players heads as well, but hes humble about it and he wins.. Cortland is loud, obnoxious, and …. lost.
Just guessing we'll take who we can get in FA.
With any luck DISCIPLINE is teachable. I do wonder why nobody taught Talib discipline. Maybe some heads are in a different world or just too thick. Bang!
by Chengdu Buc on Feb 22, 2012 10:24 AM EST up reply actions
He is loud and obnoxious and nasty
is it something that we need on defense? I think so.
by Carlitin1988 on Feb 22, 2012 11:06 AM EST via Android app up reply actions
I couldn't agree more...
I believe Warren Sapp was all of those things on the field – and he did OK.
by Cracker Ball on Feb 22, 2012 11:41 AM EST up reply actions
That may be what we need
A “in your face” kind of guy to keep you always wondering where is is on the field. Males you account for him at all times. Tha in itself is like a double team with out actually doing it.
I think so... an outspoken veteran guy
that will “attitude up” a very milquetoast team.
by Cracker Ball on Feb 22, 2012 12:20 PM EST up reply actions
its appears..
ive met my match.. noone agreed with me, and alot of decent points were made… he may be a decent pick up, if he performs… he better be SHUT DOWN if we get him though
shutdown corners are rare
and someone on the team is going to get thrown to, so what we need are 3 starter quality CB’s and it would be nice to have Finnegan as one of them.
dont waste my time
everyone has been trying to persuade me to believe in cortland and his work ethic and his on the field tatics that ‘win’… now your saying that he isnt all that ‘great’ just good?.. your covering your tail so that when he doesnt perform top five caliber next year, i wont say anything.. pick which side your on.. either hes great and we need to get him or not, but dont just argue with me for no reason.. at least im man enough to admit when someone actually has made decent observations.. the difference is my opinion hasnt changed. i dont like him, but if we end up with him, HE BETTER BE SHUTDOWN dude
by FIVE27 on Feb 22, 2012 8:44 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
you do realize i was talking about finnegan right?
MoBorne should be the shutdown corner we expect him to be, but as in anything in life their are NO guarantees.
but we usually have an idea. .
We know who the players are.. you have said hes great. dont go changing your mind now.. you never did say how you felt about desean jackson either.. is his attitude exceptable because hes fast?
by FIVE27 on Feb 23, 2012 11:24 AM EST via mobile up reply actions
I have talked extensively about Desean Jackson
And I think its a culture thing in Philly, a product of his environement, and when OL are coming in making more than you and your the main contributor can you blame him? I never said Finnegan was great. You may be mioxing me up with someon else maybe with a similar name?
i want talib back
no more talks about fa corners.. draft claiborne, hopefully talib wont be in trouble. were cool gobucsgo. just like straight answers
