2013 Draft - what now?

Stay connected for news and updates

Talib has now gone, so with cornerback looking hideously weak, you'd expect us to draft ar corner in the first round in April 2013? I'm not so sure myself. There's four key areas I think we need to fill in the 2013 draft: CB, DE, RT and FS.

We all sat here saying the same thing, that Claiborne would be a Buc come May 2013 and it was a dead cert that he'd be drafted. Turns out he was never on the radar and I think its fair to say Barron has been a proven success. So now Talib has gone and everyone is saying that we will be doing the same again. But are we going to be in the same boat again, where Dominik throws us all a curve ball and we draft someone under the radar again?

A few months ago, David Amerson was the number one corner. But he seems to be dropping down the list and went at 39 in the last mock draft I read. DeMarcus Milliner is the number one corner, but we'd need to draft in the top 10 to get him. Are we likely to drop in form that badly? He's got good coverage and comes from good stock at Alabama. However, Johnthan Banks seems a more Bucs man. He's superb in run defence and gets all around the field. He may be a more likely choice.

Of course, we could do a Wright and go free agency. Brett Grimes is the top corner back likely to hit free agency come April. Then there's Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie, but would he step down to us? He does have a bit of an attitude and his face may not fit.

Personally speaking, I'd try and go for Milliner or Banks. However, I wouldn't be surprised to see Dominik go for a defensive tackle as we lack depth in that area. There;s no corners I really fancy in round 2 unless Xavier Rhodes falls that low. .
