I sit back and ponder about this whole debate on riding it out with Freeman because he is our "franchise QB". At this time I am at minimum ready to bring some serious QB competition in no matter what Freeman does this year. He has been too inconsistent. Now I wonder is this fair for me to think that we at LEAST need another QB in for competition or at worst a capable plan B in case Freeman needs to be benched for whatever reason. Dan Orvolosky is horrible. I never understood nor liked the move, but I gave Freeman the benefit of the doubt that he would improve so this topic wouldn't be a discussion. I cant be convinced that Dan O was the best or only available backup on the market. Its evident that the Bucs really believe in Freeman. But maybe its time for the Bucs to look at the Jets and think twice about just "riding with Freeman".
The Jets believed that Sanchez was their "franchise QB" too. Sanchez even "led" (and I used that term loosely) his team to 2 straight AFC championships. And even last year they went 8-8. So he has already accomplished more than Freeman and after last years 8-8 finish they still werent satisfied with Sanchez's struggles and decided that they had pacified Sanchez long enough and he hadnt lived up to their expectations. The Jets finally brought in a plan B in Tim Tebow that would bring competition in, hopefully make Sanchez realize that his job is in jeopardy and that you can be replaced and that you are no longer anointed "the man" because you have not proven that you really are, or if all else fails the Jets have a guy that could take his job and actually perform.
The Jets finally saw the light and now its time for the Bucs to do the same thing. For everyone making the case of giving Freeman a pass and a chance to prove himself without any threat of him actually being benched, keep this in mind. How long are we supposed to wait around for him to develop? One more year? Two? Five? Again I'm not saying he needs to be gone ASAP and we need to start brand new but we should at least have a quality back up thats a vet that has actual done something in the league, or a young QB that can be developed and their are plenty of young QBs like that that could be acquired. I just hope the Bucs get someone in fast because I doubt this Freeman experiment will work anymore.
