The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have been reasonably healthy this year, but a potentially disastrous loss appeared to occur late last night at the end of the game between the Bucs and the Vikings. With the game long since decided and on the final defensive snap of the game, defensive end Michael Bennett had to be helped off the field with an ankle injury.
His injury was not addressed after the game, but Greg Schiano noted that he should be okay in today's press conference. According to Rick Stroud, Tom Krasniqi, Stephen Holder and other beat writers Michael Bennett said that he'd be fine today, too.
That's good news, because the Bucs can't afford to lose their leading sack artist. Bennett has five sacks on the season and has been a very big part of the NFL's best run defense. Bennett's playing under a restricted free agent tender and the Buccaneers should look to sign him to a new contract after the season.
Tampa Bay does have a little more depth at defensive end with Da'Quan Bowers' return, who took 12 snaps yesterday in his first game of the season. Bowers suffered an Achilles injury during the offseason and will now have 10 days before facing the Oakland Raiders to become a bigger part of the team's defense.
