This Buccs team seems to be shape shifting from week to week. We have terrible offense for the first few weeks (except the Giants shoot out game) but our defense keeps us in every game. Then our offense gets red hot.....and now our defense is crap. There are big bright spots: Lavonte David, Mason Foster, Doug Martin, Freeman, Vincent Jackson and Mike Williams, Mark Barron and so on.
David and Barron look to be longtime starters in Tampa and probably will go to Hawaii a few times together. McCoy has played amazing but today against the Saints he was double or triple teamed on every play and nobody else could beat single blocking. That's just depressing. Freeman has had all the tools all along and has shown us his ability to rally his team, but this feels different....it feels like he's actually very comfortable with this new offense now and understands what he has to do to make it work. If that's true then the league better look out. He's got the physical skills to be as good as anybody. And I mean anybody.
I was there today. I was going off like Ray Lewis coming out the tunnel when Mike Williams caught that pass. I'm literally blowing a gasket over here in celebration when I hear the ref say "the game is over" and I'm like WTF just happened???!!! I was at the Redskins game too. When all the Redskins fans cheered across the way I thought Cundiff had missed the FG. I was crushed after that play too. I didn't used to get to go to games at all so when I actually got to go to one a year.....maybe, I would be so excited it didn't matter if we won. I was just happy to be at the Ray Jay. I never thought I could feel as terrible as I did today while being at that awesome stadium... But after experiencing the Redskins game and now this one I just want to see Mark Barron hit Adrian Peterson so hard he literally catches on fire and has to be put out with an extinguisher. (I would never really want anyone to get hurt) but you see what I mean.
I really think that this team is much like our offense was 3 weeks ago. They just need to get it all together at the same time just once. I think then they could really take off. Somebody just really needs to make a big statement type of play that will start a roll of confidence. (Sapp spiking Jamal Lewis into the ground like a flag in Baltimore in '02 comes to mind. John Lynch later said that play set a marker for their season and they never looked back after that) Just one spark. That all I think we need.
For all of us who wait through the 20 minutes of suck-a** Jets highlights, and 10 minutes of Eli Manning interviews, and 20 minutes of "OH MY GOD RG3 IS SO GOOD MY HEAD IS GOING TO EXPLODE!!!" Just to see them show one play from the Buccs games for like 20 seconds and then move on...... It's really hard to swallow sometimes. The Buccs have a chance to change it slightly on Sunday. The Vikings pass game sucks and its gonna be on NFL Network. If we can remain tuff against the run and our offense do what they've been doing..... We may just get a few people talking on ESPN and NFL Network. Maybe. It's just so hard sometimes to be treated like your team doesn't matter at all.
