Interesting and Quirky Stats Regarding Our Bucs

Just thought I would share some fun and insightful stats I found. Let's start on defense.

Defense

Tampa can once again take a little pride on defense, with our 4th ranked rush defense. That is heads in shoulders above the rest of the NFC South with the Panthers ranking 23rd, the Falcons 28th, and the Saints 32nd. This marks the first time we have had a top 5 run defense since 2002.

On a not as proud note, we rank dead last in passing yards per game at 345.2 ypg. The caveat to this depressing stat is that we have only given up 4 touchdowns through the air, good enough for 4th least in the league. And we are one of only four teams to have more interceptions on defense than passing touchdowns given up.

We are the third best team in the league on third downs, only giving up first downs 28% of the time.

Offense

This is the part of the post that wasn't as much fun to reasearch...

We are ranked 30th in the league in total offensive yards per game, and 31st in first downs per game.

We also rank dead last in total offensive plays from scrimmage. And no, the bye week did not affect this, as we have the least of all teams that have had a bye.

We are 10th in the league in turnover differential, I guess that's something to hang our hat on.

We are one of four teams without a run of 20+ yards, but we are also one of four teams that haven't had a fumble lost by our running backs.

Josh Freeman (he needed his own section)

30th in completion percentage

29th in yards per game with 197.5 ypg, but he is 26th in the league in attempts per game, so there is a correlation there.

26th in the league in Quarterback rating

So it's kind of a no win situation. We could make the argument that he hasn't had enough opportunities to produce, but he hasn't produced in the limited amount of opportunities he has been given...
