The season is still young as we are only 4 games into the 2012 NFL season and alot of questions have been answered and some have been stamped with an even bigger question mark. After 4 games it is safe to say that Tampa Bay's defense is the real deal. The draft picks of David and Barron were great additions and the front 4 actually does have talent if used appropriately. The biggest question mark is by far Josh Freeman. Now entering his 4th year, Freeman is still showing greats signs of inconsitency whether it maybe decision-making or or the bad habit of staring down recievers. But is it really his fault or could this be smoke and mirrors to a very bad magic act?
Run the ball, stop the run, limit turnovers.. The words for success echoed by Coach Schiano. Sounds like a simple one to say the least but why does it sem like Freeman struggles so much.. Is it really his fault? Is it playcalling? Is it improper use of the talent of our personnel. My guess would be its a combination of all 3 reasons.
1.) Yes, part of this is Freeman's fault for the simple fact he is the leader of this team. Schiano preaches personal accountability and its time for him to look at the man in the mirror and take the reigns. Freeman is a QB with immense talent/potential but after awhile thast term looses its luster becasue it is a term used to describe a rookie/1st year player not a 4th year QB. I will give Freeman the benefit of the doubt for the simple fact he has had no continuity on the offensive side of the ball as far as coordinators go. And we must remember it took Eli awhile as a pupil to Mike Sullivan to fully blossom into the QB we see today. I know it was stated in interviews that many of the plays Sullivan calls have a "zero audible" note attached to it. Like McCoy did after the Giants loss Free needs to go to Coach Schi and Sullivan and state is qualms with this and what needs to be introduced into the offense to better showcase his talent.
2.) Playcalling has been horrible at best during this past month whether its on the offensive or defensive side of the ball. It just seems as though one week the playcalling is great on one side of the ball and questionable on the other side. The coaching staff has yet to put together a COMPLETE game. At first it seem like Schiano was stuck in his ways and didn't want to make adjustments to gameplans that seem to be in the below average department. From dialing constant safety blitzes leaving corners on islands against Super Bowl QB's to running the ball down by 2 scores, I'm pretty certain this is the single biggest contributing factor to all 3 losses.
3.) I don't know about you guys but I am beyond sick and tired of hearing sports analyst on ESPN state that Tampa is a team that lacks talent and that so many other teams in the league has so much more than us. I truly believe Tampa is one of the most talented teams personnel wise in the entire NFL. We have two more than capable RB's, a decent QB, a veteran TE who can still provide mismatches IF USED, a top 10 wideout in Jackson, a motivated Williams and a slew of 'track stars' behind willing and able to pop the top of defense. Yet very few of these talented individuals are used properly or even at all. With Joseph hurt, Martin is not a inside runner..Blount is. Dallas can beat LB's and S's still if given the opportunity to. Jackson can jump over anyone and get behind most. Williams is second to none with the hand eye coordinations and quickness. Mike sullivan better realize quick what he has and how to optimize its efforts because any other O coordinator would be salivating at this personnel. We should be a top 10 offense easily.. So who do you believe is the culprit for such a questionable start??
