BCS National Championship Open Thread: LSU vs Alabama

The BCS National Championship is on tonight, as LSU will face Alabama in a battle for who has the best NFL talent. Or something.

Lots of NFL-quality players will be playing on both teams, with RB Trent Richardson, CB Morris Claiborne and CB Dre Kirkpatrick being possible targets for the Bucs with their fifth overall draft pick. In addition, S Mark Barron, DE Sam Montgomery, WR Rueben Randle, DE Courney Upshaw and LB Don'ta Hightower could all be first-round draft picks once everything is said and done.

Check out some stories on these draft prospects:

This is late but interesting

Tebow got plenty of attention on Twitter last night for another reason. The Associated Press NFL account @AP_NFL noted that he recorded 316 passing yards and 31.6 yards per pass, interesting since he is a fan of the Bible verse John 3:16. The stat was passed around the social network all night.

Not to get religious,

but 1 Timothy 3:16 is much more easily identified with the way people talk about Tebow.

How terrible was that halftime contest?

If you’re going to embarrass a guy, who not challenge him to throw the ball 70 yards or run a sub-5 40 yard dash, or something besides a guy attempting to kick field goals off of a kickoff tee.

that is what i was thinking

they havent gone to his side all night. i dont watch much SEC here in colorado so i didnt watch LSU all season but right now im not sold on richardson. for as high as he is touted by some people; whats the deal with pulling him when bama is inside the 40yd line? if he is truly the real deal you run that guy all night. he might put up some stats at the combine (if he chooses to go) but in a big game like this i dont see anything worthy of a top 5 pick.

the fact that bama is not looking claibornes way says they respect him. he has even moved to covering tight ends b/c that is who bama was throwing to.

Your right but when you avoid a CB you are also negating an offensive player on his side

and avoiding his side of the field on pass plays means your having to limit your offense. Not once have I seen a ball thrown near the guy all night meaning he is limiting bamas offense to his guy or his side of the field.

You mean the Cotten bowl?

I didn’t watch it but the score line and stats don’t show an A&M WR beating up on one CB. To compare him to a game last year makes no sense, do guys not ever get better? Especially when you’re young and in college (18 or 19 yrs old); is that the new peak age for players?
