If Morris gets hired as a defensive coordinator I'll be astounded

He just coordinated the 4th worst defense in the history of the NFL.

History???

I find it hard to believe since we weren’t even last on defense this yr unless every team behind us set records for worse defenses all time.

by Brian Ahmed on Jan 6, 2012 11:18 AM EST up reply actions

By points scored

We were last this year. Worst in Buc’s history. 4th worst in history.

IIRC

by aakks on Jan 6, 2012 11:35 AM EST up reply actions

Points allowed, sorry

Was thinking opponents points scored

by aakks on Jan 6, 2012 11:35 AM EST up reply actions

4th most points allowed in history.

Since stopping people from scoring is what defense is about, I think it’s the most important stat. Much more important than yardage given up.

Did any of you read Chidi's latest piece over at pewter report?
But now that he has been fired at this juncture, a complete overhaul must take place. The general manager, the quarterback, the linebackers, the defensive backs and the wide receivers – all must go.

and

The Bucs, having won the fifth pick of the 2012 NFL Draft, may have a slight chance to select a quarterback like Heisman Trophy winner Robert Griffin III. Freemen is a suspect and must go.

link

Man, he just doesn’t like Free. I think it is personal after reading his last article about Free snubbing him. I love RG3 but this is nuts. You’ve got to give Free another year with decent coaches, and the receivers another year with decent coaches. If they all suck again next year then it is time to move on, but it seems way too early now. Drafting RG3 in that slot would be madness, second only to trading up to draft him and giving up more picks. Way too many holes in this team to not give Free one more year. He’s shown for at least one year he can get it done. He needs one more chance to come back around.

by aakks on Jan 6, 2012 9:42 AM EST reply actions

I have serious doubts about Free

I’d be really hesitant to spend that first rounder on a QB, but then again, look at how good Cam Newton was this year…Dominik should definitely put in a bid for Matt Flynn, at the very least. I think all the FREECHISE comments went to Josh’s head and the competition would be good for him. Make him work for his contract extension.

Also, drafting a new QB would be cheaper thanks to rookie wage scale, so I don’t think you can rule it out. We’re talking about the Glazers…

by ericshysterics on Jan 6, 2012 10:32 AM EST up reply actions

It is ok to have doubt - I have them too

but you can’t just discount his one good year, or note that the entire team collapsed in his bad year. I don’t believe we really know what we have yet, but his one good year should have earned him a chance to get past a one year slump. If he sucks rocks next year, qb hunting we go.

Besides RG3 won’t be there when we pick. I’m almost certain of it. We’d have to trade up for him, which makes it even harder for us to fill holes. Can we afford to lose picks?

Coaching was the problem. Freeman will be OK.

Raheem was the DREAM that turned into a NIGHTMARE..

by bucnut1 on Jan 6, 2012 11:55 AM EST up reply actions

Coaching was one of the problems

Thier we many . Not adding talent and further building a young roster .allowing your veteran leadership walk over a couple million $. .its a mess right now. No one have ever left over money from the Bucs.. That is what was said in the press conf. Just this past year we Lost a starting mike and d-captain and a 3rd down back.. They both leaft over what would have been very little money..

by 69her on Jan 6, 2012 2:10 PM EST up reply actions

Can't say I argue that we are the least attractive team in the NFL.

They are totally right. Our owners don’t want to spend. We have the worst fans in football. Our team sucks and did quit on Raheem. The living conditions are not all that great either, contrary to popular belief. So how exactly would you sell the Bucs to a potential head coach?

by SupraBuc on Jan 6, 2012 10:03 AM EST reply actions

Pretty easy

The Bucs have plenty of talent that underperformed. The talent is still there. They have four very talented young defensive linemen, and they have a franchise QB (coming off a down year, but you can’t ignore 2010). In addition, they have as much cap space as any team in the league – if the owners are willing to spend it and the fifth overall pick (only St. Louis has a better draft pick).

by Sander on Jan 6, 2012 10:07 AM EST up reply actions

Our young guys really did show up last year but

it’s hard to ignore how crappy they were this year. I’ll wait until this coming season to make my judgement on them. I really do believe we have talent but the question is, how badly did the horrible coaching scar them and can they recover from it?

by SupraBuc on Jan 6, 2012 10:12 AM EST up reply actions

All of the reasons you stated

are evidence of a ‘buy low’ situation. The same team that tanked this year, won 10 games the previous year. There is talent on this roster. All of the reasons you mentioned also lowers expectations a bit. You also would have to be confident of being able to do a better job than Raheem (it’s not like your coming in after Vince Lombardi here).

And for the record, I’m pretty sure if your making several million dollars a year, Tampa would offer pretty solid living conditions. There’s really something to be said for never having to purchase a shovel.

by J_B on Jan 6, 2012 10:11 AM EST up reply actions

Chidi's a bonehead...

How do we know RG3 isnt a dud; he hasnt taken a snap in the NFL yet. At least Freeman has had some success. All NFL QB’s have seasons like Freeman had this year. Coaching/talent level around has to improve; better HC, OC, OL, RB, and WR. We were able to get by last year with those deficencies but when the competition/schedule got harder they just werent good enough. Also I’m happy to know that Mike Zimmer is being considered. I think he has the personality/experiance to be a great HC. I believe he could get this defense going back in the right direction and he’s known & respected around the league and should be able to put together a good coaching staff. Outside of Fisher and maybe Cowher, Zimmer is probably they best name I’ve heard so far. It’s time to stop recycling the same’ole tired a** coaches and give someone like Zim a shot. I think he’d be a perfect fit.

I haved not liked what I have seen from freeman this year

Looks horrible reading defenses. But hes got too much upside. Hes 6’5 255 and hes got a monster arm who can run if he wants and is the TOUGHEST qb to bring down

by Carlitin1988 on Jan 6, 2012 10:58 AM EST via Android app reply actions

Freeman isn't going anywhere

Who cares what Chidi says..our new HC though Free wasn’t “his guy” he’s still a good young QB with tremendous upside..nobody with any football knowledge would just give up on him right away..especially with all our other holes and people are saying we will draft RG3 with the 5th?? Hopefully our new HC wouldn’t be that stupid

by TampaBayAllTheWayFromCaliforni-A on Jan 6, 2012 11:37 AM EST via mobile reply actions

Yeah I don't think so either

And I hope we don’t either because we need RG to go top 4 for us to have a chance at Mo or Kalil

by TampaBayAllTheWayFromCaliforni-A on Jan 6, 2012 11:41 AM EST via mobile reply actions

I don't think we have any shot at Kalil

We do have a shot at Claiborne though. I will say Kalil is the only player in this draft I take over Claiborne. Hell of a talent.

by aakks on Jan 6, 2012 11:42 AM EST up reply actions

I love Freemans potential to devlope in to a very good QB...

I’ll hold off on the “Elite” lable for now. What soured me with Freeman this most this year was his reluctance to run; that was a huge part of his success last year. He seemed hell-bent on proving he could be a pocket passer. I don’t know what Olson/VanPelt was telling him but what they shoulda been telling him was he needs to use ALL of his tools (Head, Arm, & Legs). I love what Cam did this year. He didn’t worry about all the naysayers talking about how he need to be a pocket-passer whenever he go an opportunity he ran. Freeman needs to get back to that; it’s an asset that not many QB’s in this league have.

by ctd1977 on Jan 6, 2012 11:58 AM EST via mobile reply actions

Cam Newton actually made an effort to stay in the pocket

And only ran when it was either called or if he couldn’t throw the ball somewhere.

To succeed in the NFL in the long term you need to be a pocket passer. You can run on occasion, but the foundation of your game must be as a pocket passer.

by Sander on Jan 6, 2012 12:06 PM EST up reply actions

I understand that he has to be a pocket passer...

But it truly vexes me when I see he has an opportunity to run and passes it up to force an incomplete/int. I thought the object if the game was to keep the chains moving by any means necessary. Especially considering the fact wasn’t getting much help from his “supporting cast”.

by ctd1977 on Jan 6, 2012 12:17 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Josh Freeman

Isn’t Cam Newton, don’t get me wrong they both share some of the same skills but Cam’s been in the league 1 season and has proven himself more effective pulling it down and running. Freeman can show shades of that but I don’t see him being nearly as elusive or smooth as a Cam Newton. Did you notice after JJ started at QB and Freeman returned afterwards settling to tuck it and run it a little more often. I hope he watches his weight over the offseason, Blount & Haynesworth too.

by GoBuxGo on Jan 6, 2012 12:10 PM EST via iPhone app up reply actions

I agree 100%..

Cam is a dynamic runner and Freeman is nowhere near the scrambler Cam is. However, Freeman is capable of scrambling and picking up yards in a pinch and he passed on a lot of those opportunties this year hence the 20+ int’s. Just would like to see him do it a little more often like he did in 2010 is all I’m saying.

by ctd1977 on Jan 6, 2012 12:27 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

I agree

Quite a few failed forced passes to Winslow on 3rd down could have been easy running first downs.

by aakks on Jan 6, 2012 12:31 PM EST up reply actions

I get what you're sayin

It is frustrating seeing us get o the redzone and kick 3 because we can’t convert. Freeman’s legs have paid off inside the 20 and he should make the run decision alot more.

by GoBuxGo on Jan 6, 2012 12:37 PM EST via iPhone app up reply actions

Freeman wasn't overweight? Was he? I don't think 6'5" 255 is something to be concerned about

Also, Blunt is beetter with weight

Free seemed to be quite a bit heavier than last year.

I doubt if he stepped on a scale it wouldn’t be 260+

The stats listed in the program are worthless.

Desean Jackson was supposedly 6’0 in college. He showed up to the combine at 5’9. Those weights are almost never accurate.

What about Biasaccia?

Not sure what the topic of this thread is but I’m curious what others think of him as a HC candidate. I’ve read some posters calling for him to return but I’m not sure he has the experience other than a ST coordinator. Any thoughts?

I don't

Was this a Duemig suggestion? I don’t live in the area si I don’t know who said what. Some posters on other sites are saying Brooks, Alstott, Sapp and Lynch are behind Bisaccia. Anyone know anything about that or is it the usual tabloid mentality that infects other Bucs opinion sites?

I haven't heard anything about any of those guys openly wanted Bisaccia

That doesn’t mean they don’t, but I haven’t heard anyone other than Duemig and a few blog commenters wanting him.
