compared to what other people are saying

that’s was completely harmless.

Kinda upsets me how far Paterno fell from grace so quickly.

Go Chud!

I think Chudzinski’s chances just got better. The Glazers were willing to gamble on a coach without NFL head coach experience and looked to the college model to infuse some life into our moribund offense. Chud seems to be the closest thing to what Kelly represented. Go Chud!

Embarrassed?

I don’t see why they should be embarrassed. They took a shot at a dynamic new approach and the guy got cold feet. I do wonder what Marty and some of the others are thinking this morning. Were they window dressing while the Bucs pursued their real agenda? Posters all over are reading so much palace intrigue into this little sideshow and what it portends about the Glazers. Disappointed but not disheartened. We’ve still got some decent choices unless they start pulling out too.

Agree.

The perception of the Bucs ineptitude can only get larger with this kind of thing. Everyone wants to resurrect the old ghost of Parcells rejection but it is to far removed from today’s team situation to have any applicability. I don’t think Kelly decision was based so much on what this team offers or doesn’t offer but he just wasn’t ready to make the leap. Now, if he becomes the Colts head coach we’ll know it was about this organization and it’s Keystone cop approach to team mgmt.

Stroud spends morning wiping egg off his face

The credibility of the Bucs isn’t the only thing brought into question here.

Why? The reports seemed to be accurate

The Bucs and Chip Kelly were close to a deal, but it wasn’t done. And then it fell apart. That happens sometimes. Doesn’t make the report inaccurate.

True

But doesnt it make you wonder the reason it really fell apart?

by 69her on Jan 23, 2012 11:08 AM EST up reply actions

I'd like to know, but it doesn't need to be too complicated

Maybe Phil Knight came in and offered him a whole bunch of cash. Maybe his family protested against moving across the country. Maybe he felt like he had unfinished business at Oregon. Maybe he got cold feet. Who knows?

“You’re going to love coaching Quincy Black. He’s going to be the best LB in the NFL someday.”

This wasn't portrayed as in talks with

UPDATE: Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times confirms that the Bucs and Chip Kelly are finalizing a deal. It’s not done, but they’re close.

by ncbucfan on Jan 23, 2012 11:33 AM EST up reply actions

That's what it says, and that's exactly what happens

They were finalizing a deal. It wasn’t done, but it was close to done. And then it fell apart. I don’t see what part of that conflicts with what happened.

Overexhuberant scoopage

I went to bed last night with visions of sugar plums. Excited about this new coach. Wake up and find out it was all a pipe dream. I’d just like to see journalists wait until the ink is dry before using the word “finalizing”. Not every jounalist can be a Jay Glazer.

I missed it last night

Woke up to whiplash. “Bucs hire Kelly”, “Wait, no”. All in about 2 minutes before I had any coffee in me.

That is what happens when...

everybody wants to “scoop” the big signing. Appears it was very premature and simultaneously stupid.

by Cracker Ball on Jan 23, 2012 3:09 PM EST up reply actions

Bracketed now?

That 6 mil figure gives the other candidates a benchmark. That’s not small change either. Doesn’t sound like a team trying to go cheap in it’s search as some portray.
