Playoffs Open Thread: Texans @ Ravens
The Baltimore Ravens and Houston face off today for the right to advance to the AFC Championship and play the New England Patriots. Who will win this epic battle of quarterbacks battle of great defenses with bleh quarterbacks? Will Ray Rice destroy the Texans' stout run defense, and can the Texans sustain their overwhelming rushing attack against Baltimore?
Discuss the game, the playoffs, the Bucs, the draft, the coaching search and whatever else here.

That was like when you're playing Madden and think you can get away with not calling a fair catch...
….then you inevitably get crushed and fumble the ball away. The difference is he just did it in real life. Yikes.
Why do these networks wait till the NFL playoffs to advertise their awful "comedy" shows?
CBS is spamming Rob
FOX – Napolean Dynamite
NBC – Chelsea

Turrible investment.

Only thing that matters in the playoffs is how good your O is.
It’s nothing but shoot outs. Saints are an outliner because of their dumb dome status. Of course the niners had to end the game with a shoot out anyways.

In the NFL he got David Garrard and Blaine Gabbert dumped on him and his best receiver was Mike Thomas. Tough to produce that way.

That’s what I would love to see from the bucs next season. A physical got a chip on their shoulder defense. Makes everything so much more manageable
by gusjackson on Jan 15, 2012 3:30 PM EST via mobile reply actions
Disagree. It's far easier to put together a high flying pass offence based on TEs
It’s going to take years to put together a defense and by then whatever RB we draft will be too old. they only last 2-5 years.

Seriously
QBs make receivers. If you put Grunt and Hernandez on the Bucs he wont do a damn thing. Brady makes those TEs look better than they really are. Look at what he did for Deion Branch and many other no name WR and TEs
QBs and receivers can help eachother
Gronkowski and Hernandez consistently make tough catches in coverage. That has little to do with the QB throwing to them.
If you put Grunk
on the bucs our offense would have had no clue what to do with him. This is the genius of bellicheck and accuracy of brady. Dont get me wrong Grunk would be good no matter where he went but those two make grunk an all star as they have with so many players.

If you can build an elite offensive line, then you can plug and play most any back. But good backs can make a running game with relatively poor blocking, too.

Oline First
Yeah, I dont care how elite your running back is if you dont have an oline you offense cant do anything. A good oline helps in both run and pass. Btw putupyourDUKES building an oline is OLD SCHOOL FOOTBALL. Win in the trenches both on offense and defense and you will win games even with average talent.

your putting too much stock into first round guys. you have plenty of guys who are drafted in the first round that dont pan out. our take a while to pan out. or pan out in the beginning and then fade away. either way it doesnt matter. you rarely get 10 years of great productivity from not just running backs but players period.

But he’s consistently productive. Rushed for 5.4 yards per attempt this year on 175 attempts.
He is very special and valuable. I know it's cliche around here to hate on running backs
But they are very valuable to your team. Ray Rice and Foster are good examples of why they can change the flow of your offense.

Actually its different
If you go by todays nfl. Running backs arent getting 40-50 carries a game anymore. They are getting 10-15 with 5-10 catches out of the backfield. so the life expectancy of a running back has actually grown in my opionion. How do we know the life expectancy of a current new age nfl when its really only been 4 years. According you Ray rice only has one more year left. It doesnt look like it to me lol. with your thoughts.
San Diego should be 16-0 with rivers and gates. The falcons have a hall of fame/one of the best to ever do it. And they sitting at home. If you are foolish enough to spend a first round draft pick on a te then you are Al Davis(RIP) kinda crazy

Let Todd Heap go didn’t they?

WHAT!
The Ravens had one of the best TE in the league with Heap. They still lost to teams like the Steelers with their offense. Oh and please tell me who play TEfor the steelers when they won the super bowl…..don’t look it up

Where would you rank's Tampa's owners in overall wealth among other owners?
I’m assuming that Paul Allen might be the richest.

Paul Allen's the richest
Then Stephen Ross, Stan Kroenke, and Malcolm Glazer is fourth.
Not sure where those numbers are from. Forbes has the Glazers third, just ahead of Kroenke.
Forbes says William Clay Ford Sr is worth $1.2 billion
Manchester United alone is worth more than that.

The Bucs certainly aren't
And while ManU is leveraged to an extent, it’s nowhere close to Man U’s actual value.
Forbes says Malcolm Glazer is worth $2.6 billion.
they increased ticket prices 42 percent since 2005, and still sell out every game.
They make so much money from that team it’s silly.

Economy sucks even more in other markets, and they have higher attendance.
The problem is that so many bandwagon fans switched from being Bucs fans in the early 2000’s and now root for someone else.
And the remaining fans either want to spend their money somewhere else or they just became bored with the mediocrity of the team. Look at the attendance at FSU. Even the Gators are seeing a dip in attendance now that they’ve had a few bad years.
fact
Why people keep spreading this rumor that they are broke is just plain dumb
