Mike Zimmer will interview with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for a Head Coaching Position
According to Adam Schefter, Cincinnati Bengals defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer will interview with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for their head coaching position. Zimmer is the second coach with no previous head coaching experience to be approached by the Bucs, after they interviewed Tennessee Titans defensive coordinator Jerry Gray early in the coaching search.
Mike Zimmer has been consistently successful as a defensive coordinator, producing some very impressive defenses in Cincinnati and Dallas. He's been in the league for a long time, and has produced wherever he's gone. The fact that he managed to mold a young Bengals defense into a stout unit will appeal to the Bucs, and the fact that he runs a 4-3 defense which would fit the Bucs personnel certainly doesn't hurt either.
We have looked at Mike Zimmer as a potential head coaching candidate before, and most Bucs fans seemed to like him at the time. Zimmer is an intriguing candidate with a lot of experience, but he's just the latest name in a long list of coaches the Bucs have interviewed.

He's a good candidate
I’m glad we’re interviewing him. I hope they add some other coordinators and college head coaches as well.
This is a good thing...
but I hope they speak to him soon and wrap this search up soon. They need time to begin assembling a staff and you want to choose as well, and as quickly, as possible before the good ones get away.
Didn't he just sign an extension with the Bengals two days ago?
As you can always expect come from behind victory is when you least expect it.
i dont think that would matter if we signed him as our head coach though
hes a good candidate in my opinion. a little scary that he doesnt have any head coaching experience which is why i said no more trial and error type coaches but his defenses have always been productive to say the least. Well deserving of an interview at least.

My bad. Right team, wrong side of the ball.
As you can always expect come from behind victory is when you least expect it.
Chudzinski is coming in for an interview too
So it looks like the coaching search is very thorough, as the Glaziers said it would be.

said we’ll be speaking with Zimmer and Chudzinski.
I'm not interested in Chudzinski though.
If it weren’t for Cam Newton, his name wouldn’t even be mentioned.
Where the heck is Keyser?
Child please
Watch Cam on the Gruden QB camp thing, Chud worked wonders with that kid.

Certainly no harm in interviewing them...
but I hope the decision comes sooner than later. All the assistants that are out looking, or currently out of work, will be wanting to come on quickly.

I still like
Marty but if I was going to go with a coordinator it would be Chud.

I still like the idea of hiring
Marty to right the ship, and then in a few years when he retires and we are in a better position as a team, we then hire a hot shot coordinator. It would be much easier for a coordinator to make the leap to head coach if they are inheriting a solid team, and we are not a solid team right now.

A good point... that will help lure better coordinators here
Marty is up there, and even in good health, you can’t go on forever.

He is also known for bringing in a great staff.
So who knows, that next great coordinator could already be on staff. Now, there is no guarantee he is able to put together that type of staff, but he has done it before.

Marty will have no trouble assembling a top staff...
with his network. Plus, dangling the ’ol “someone will need to take my place when I retire” carrot is always a good one. A timeless classic…

I agree
after this year Im looking at the long term picture. I just want us to compete and would be happy with a 8-8 season next year. I hope Dom/ Glazers are looking long term, not with hiring Marty, which i hope they do, but who will take over after 2 or 3years. I think Marty will bring consistancy and organization that we have we dont have.
This is the best guy we have interviewed so-far.
Zimmer runs a tight ship and that’s exactly what our young team needs.
Zimmer
Now we making some strives now n we should hire him

He won't stand for all those missed tackles we had this yr for sure.
Enough with the retreads, good coaches have to start somewhere and he has more of a body of work to qualify to be a HC than say Rah. I’m for this hire.
True
Rah was too much of a buddy buddy coach instead of being a disciplinary coach

Does anything say when we will be interviewing him?
I think this would be our best bet.
NNNNOOOOOO
for the love of God, keep your grubby hands off Zim…jk, lol, he would do wonders and truly deserves it
signed,
Bengals fans everywhere
personally
I don’t want to see Marvin fired, I want him to be promoted to G.M. while handing the reigns over to Zimmer as head coach and hiring Jack Del Rio as Defensive Coordinator. Who Dey!!!

OC
Im not worried about the head coach position as much as I am about the Offensive coordinator job and the draft. Theres a lot of great coaches out there, but the person that actually calls the play is more important in my mind. If they get a head coach that will call plays, that would be great, but I dont see that much anymore. Also, get RG3! Freeman might deserve another chance to lead this team, but if he falters early next year, the Bucs can start their new era with the best QB i’ve ever seen.
He might not be available.
Plus I think the franchise should give Freeman one more chance to prove himself with actual weapons around him
New Coach
Would like to see Brian Billick interviewed. SuperBowl winning coach. Offensive Coordinator with an Explosive Viking team which failed to make another SuperBowl because of a missed “easy” field goal.
I'm not trying to troll
I am just kind of shocked with the Marty people….wow…seriously guys….Marty…Hes like a 103…Dont you guys want a young hungry guy rather than a big name old timer…you guys deserve it…Dont just look at the names…look at the coach

shhhh tic
let em get marty….that let’s us keep Zimm

plus
then they’d have an o-coordinator right off the bat, I hear his son’s looking for work.

If Schottenheimer had to suit up... I would be concerned.
He only needs to use his brain, which seems just fine and crammed full of knowledge. He has been networking his way through the NFL for 30+ years, so he can easily establish a good staff of experienced coordinators and assistants. Knowing he won’t be around long-term only adds to his ability to recruit his staff – said or unsaid.
Youth is over rated in this circumstance…

I've been waiting on this since Morris was fired!!
Hire Zimmer as head coach and bring in someone like the Packers QB coach Clements to run the offense.
brian billick
so why isnt brian billick getting more consideration? if anyone saw hard knocks a few years back, you can see the man knows how to discipline a team, and he runs a great offense anyont that can win a superbowl with trent dillfer as the q.b. is a winner in my book!!
not to mention the defense’s he built as head coach of the ravens this is a guy that with the right cordinators that could take this young and potentially explosive team to the next level. i say bring billick in, give him a solid defensive cordinator and let him install that offense he ran in baltimore, other then heap did he really have a true starter in any other offensive position? and he still won. give that man the bucs players and it will be a nightmare for other teams in the n.f.c. for years on end
