You know what kills me?

All this talk about getting an old coach like its a bad thing. See what a young coach got us. We are pacified with flashes of good during the Raheem/Dominik era….. We need a veteran coach that can bring in great coaches with him.. old or young and for some strange reason after 3 or 4 years and this “old coach” leaves for some reason, we have capable coaches to at least be an interim.

Agree

I think it’s even pretty ridiculous that people are looking 3-4 years down to road. There is more than enough work to be done on this team where we really need to simply focus on next year. We need to turn this around ASAP.

by J_B on Jan 10, 2012 9:33 AM EST up reply actions

Agreed, weren't the Bucs 3-13; 10-6; then 4-12

Heck, look at what a “young” “new” HC did in SF- Harbaugh led the 49ers from 7 wins to 13 this year.

by BUCSwillDOMINATE on Jan 10, 2012 9:35 AM EST up reply actions

I have a feeling it's going to come down to Marty & Sherman

personally, I’d rather see Marty. Age is only a number people.

by J_B on Jan 10, 2012 9:30 AM EST reply actions

He's certainly an underwhelming choice

but I’m not sure he’s as bad a choice as most people believe; I wouldn’t put much stock in his performance at Texas A & M, I never would’ve figured him to be a successful college coach from the get go. There is a massive difference between NFL coach and College Coach. I mean how many kids are going to be overwhelmed on a recruiting trip by Mike Sherman?

by J_B on Jan 10, 2012 9:38 AM EST up reply actions

I dont care if its Sherman, Marty, Phillips or whoever. Just get it done and improve from last year.

With an experience coach and capable staff i highly doubt we go 4-12 and get blown out as many times and by who we got blown out by.

I agree

I’m getting really annoyed by this coaching search. Glazers…“Just get it done!” I want Wins I don’t care who the coach is as long as we are winning!!

by DCGator on Jan 10, 2012 10:56 AM EST up reply actions

So , the ad should read...

Only coaches who want to win need apply. OK. That includes about everybody. After the Morris experiment, it should be clearer than ever that it DOES matter who the coach is. Winning is predicated on building a succesful coaching regime that instills competence, discipline and demands professionalism from the players. Don’t put the cart before the horse.

by ncbucfan on Jan 10, 2012 11:02 AM EST up reply actions

What i mean is that pretty much all of these coaches that are available are similar. Apples vs Oranges

No clear cut best guy out there. And all im saying im confident in whoever they choose and they probably are already leaning towards someone in mind. I just say hurry up and make the decision.

We need to atleast bring in Zimmer for a interview

Im with Zimmer too

I like Zimmer also

but must get a top OC. Zimmer is very deserving of a shot and what do we have to lose after this season.

Something to build on

I think hiring Schotzy makes perfect sense. There are a number of columns across the spectrum detailing his attributes so I won’t go into that. I said yesterday looking at this hire as a transitional step it makes sense. I’ll go further and suggest they attempt to convince Chud (OC at NC) to make a lateral move and come work under a legend of the game with the caveat that, considerng Schotzy’s age, the HC job would be an attainable goal depending on his performance. Then, juice up that competition by offering Kirby Smart (DC at ALA) to be our DC and compete for the HC job. Schotzy could transition into the GM position in time. Competition breeds excellence.

by ncbucfan on Jan 10, 2012 10:30 AM EST reply actions

An OC or DC coming here with a Schottenheimer HC hire...

leaves you in a perfect position to take over when he leaves. Not only do you get the great opportunity to display your coordinator talents, but the fact is Marty will not coach forever, and would allow a smoother transition for a HC promotion without turning the organization upside down.

by Cracker Ball on Jan 10, 2012 11:10 AM EST up reply actions

Entice Kirby

Wecan pay him more money. I read he is making $750k/yr. Plus paint the picture of him tutoring under a great coach in Marty for a few years, then becoming his successor?! It really is a great opportunity.

by gmaz1 on Jan 10, 2012 12:52 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

Kirby gives off the impression that he is waiting for a legit head coaching job. Not a try-out head coaching job.

He’s waiting for the same opportunity that Charlie Strong got at Louisville. Kirby is basically a coach in waiting and doesn’t need to be one at another place.

by Bucs on Jan 10, 2012 1:22 PM EST up reply actions

Exactly my point

The names may change but imagine an orderly succession of head coaches with this franchise. Not these deals in the dead of the night that ransoms our future or the sudden departure of Dungy after building a contender.

by ncbucfan on Jan 10, 2012 11:12 AM EST reply actions

I would love for that happen

If we hired OC or DC that eventually could become the successor to the next coach would be great because that would mean that would atleast be some sort of success if the entire staff is still left after a HC departure

by TampaBayAllTheWayFromCaliforni-A on Jan 10, 2012 12:10 PM EST via mobile up reply actions

That is definitely one advantage to Marty.

He could bring in lateral move OC and DC, because they know they could get their chance soon. And a big thing, for me, is Marty’s ability to change the culture. Similar to Dungy, Marty can bring a passion to the team. Getting them to take pride in themselves, the team, and this game. And he can be the disciplinarian this team desperately needs.

by flash_kiley on Jan 10, 2012 1:05 PM EST via Android app reply actions

If we get Marty, Jackson was a RB coach under him in washington.

He helped Flacco out as a rookie, and made Jason Campbell look like a decent QB.

I'm fully on board the Schottenheimer train
What may intrigue the Bucs is Schottenheimer’s record. With a career mark of 200-126-1 in 21 seasons with four teams, he has just 22 fewer NFL victories than the 35-year-old Bucs franchise.

It seems like he’s everything we need: an old school no nonsense guy, a disciplinarian, all about the fundamentals, a coaching tree that’s practically a redwood, and a proven winner. I don’t care that he’s 68- I care that he’s interested in coming here to coach our team. I’m in.

With the 5th pick of the 2012 NFL draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers select....

Exactly

I’ll worry about the playoffs once we can actually get there.

by aakks on Jan 10, 2012 2:04 PM EST up reply actions

I just hope we are the first to hire a HC

Then our new coach will have an advantage going after the OC DC and asst coaches he wants.

I am officially down for getting rid of Tanard Jackson.

This guy done wifed up a porn star got her pregnant and she just got busted for prostitution. SMH i want him gone just because of that! No wonder he played so soft this year smh lol.

Ahhh... This topic is exactly why Tjack should be fired; let me jokingly explain

At the last debacle, where I bet $1500 against ATL, figuring Rah and his cronies would put a fight, I went on a rampage. I came on here at the top of the 4th and wrote “I’d rather smoke crack and prostitute my wife out than watch these bums, see ya next year” -written in stone.

Well guess what, Tjack beat me to the punch lmao!!!! haha (but seriously I don’t smoke crack but pot certainly doesn’t get your broad on the streets… just sayin yo)

Ehm, I can't find any credible outlet reporting this anywhere

The only thing I can find is some gossip site with a year-old ‘story’.

Even if it’s true, who cares?

by Sander on Jan 10, 2012 4:58 PM EST up reply actions

I want him gone because he forgot how to takle,

I cussed him this year almost as much as i did olson

by 37champs on Jan 10, 2012 5:03 PM EST up reply actions

Now that I could get behind

Though that’s another body you need to replace. I’d at least wait to see if he can learn to tackle again this offseason.

by Sander on Jan 10, 2012 5:07 PM EST up reply actions

What ticks me off more than anything

is I remember the player he once was. A hard hitting playmaker, he did make some plays this year but the negatives outweighed the positives by far. when he f#@%ed up he really f#!2ed up

by 37champs on Jan 10, 2012 5:11 PM EST up reply actions

I'd let him have this off season and training camp before I go off and cut the guy.

He hasn’t had anything to do with the team for over a year, and to get thrown into the fire like he did and expect him to be what he was before is unfair to him. I know he did it to himself, but he’s still go talent and is useable here.

Where the heck is Keyser?

by bucnut1 on Jan 10, 2012 6:07 PM EST up reply actions

hope your right

maybe he would have played better if everyone around him didnt quit, or maybe it was coaching, hell who knows. You may have convinced me to give him another chance

by 37champs on Jan 10, 2012 6:45 PM EST up reply actions

Plus we cant upgrade everyone

We have to be at peace with the fact that not every player will be a superstar.

by Carlitin1988 on Jan 10, 2012 7:33 PM EST via Android app up reply actions

We got the salary cap to bring in some names

Im thinkin one of our safeties has to go though. In good form, Jones and Tjack are the same player . We got two box safeties and we probably need to get a smaller but faster coverage/ball hawk proto. I think we’re big on the back end but i could be wrong. Tjack has a lil coverage in him, so idk, maybe we wait and see how he progresses into the offseason

by Titankillah on Jan 10, 2012 8:01 PM EST up reply actions

Lighten up man. Geez.

I think it's a pretty fine line between being a porn star and a prostitue anyway

I mean, they have sex for money. That’s kinda the definition of prostitution. Not really sure how doing it on camera is legal.

Anyway, I don’t care what a player does in their personal life. He just needs to re-learn how to tackle or he definitely needs to go.

So...

Do we know of any possible coordinators that could possibly be linked to Schotty? Or some he might of used in the past that may be available? It seems more and more likely that Schotty will be our best option available

by TampaBayAllTheWayFromCaliforni-A on Jan 10, 2012 4:34 PM EST via mobile reply actions

Hue Jackson has previously coached under him

and I’m not sure if he gets another HC gig immediately. Schotty for 3 years with Jackson groomed to take over would be great.

by J_B on Jan 10, 2012 4:50 PM EST up reply actions

I like MEL TUCKER as DC or HC

I see some fire in his eye. Maybe he could finally turn Black into a man??

by Titankillah on Jan 10, 2012 7:57 PM EST up reply actions

Or ya’ll just too prideful to admit JAX beat the living dog poop out of us?

You know

It’s a sad statement on how far the Bucs have fallen that we’re debating the merits of 68 year old Marty Schottenheimer as a coach.
