Bucs Nation Open Thread: Early Games
Happy New Year, everyone!
It's the final day of football in the 2011 regular season - and the first day of football in 2012. Here's your open thread for the early games.
Washington Redskins @ Philadelphia Eagles
Horrible team faces underperforming but talented team. Watching Rex Grossman and Michael Vick compete in an interception-throwing competition should be entertaining. Maybe Vince Young can join in, too.
Detroit Lions @ Green Bay Packers
This would be a terrific game if the Packers weren't resting most of their good players, including Aaron Rodgers. The Lions can earn the fifth seed with a win today - and if they win, the Atlanta Falcons won't have anything to play for against the Bucs later today.
New York Jets @ Miami Dolphins
The Dolphins aren't playing for anything, but the Jets can somehow still make the playoffs - if Oakland loses to San Diego, and Cincinnati loses to Baltimore, and Houston beats Tennessee. That's a lot of ifs.
Carolina Panthers @ New Orleans Saints
The Panthers have been eliminated from the playoffs - but not so the Saints, who can lock up a first-round bye with a win and a loss by the 49ers.
San Francisco 49ers @ St. Louis Rams
The Rams need to lose to have a shot at Andrew Luck. The 49ers need to win to secure a first-round bye.
Chicago Bears @ Minnesota Vikings
Nothing at stake here, but there's always Christian Ponder for you Florida State fans.
Tennessee Titans @ Houston Texans
The Texans are resting players as they have the 3rd seed locked up, while the Titans can get into the playoffs with a win and an Oakland loss.
Indianapolis Colts @ Jacksonville Jaguars
The Jags play for nothing, while the Colts can lose to draft Luck.
Buffalo Bills @ New England PatriotsThis is truly a nothing game. Nothing at stake - except draft position for the Bills, I guess.Scratch that, the Patriots are playing for home field advantage in the playoffs.

First team that needs a QB
Could see him going second overall if someone trades up, which is more likely now that the huge contracts are gone.
I cant believe they have the bucs game as the late game.
I was hoping to get this painful season over quicker..

Great catch by colston (saints) in the endzone.

Brees is really feeding Colston today
Does Colston have a chance of breaking some records or something?
Not sure...
Saints look tough though.

I know it's not likely but
I’m rooting hard for Jared Allen to break Michael Strahan’s BS sack record.
Yep, 4.
He won’t get it, but if there ever deserved to be an asterisk on an NFL stat, Strahan’s record is it.
TD Percy Harvin.
He’s really turned into one hell of a pro. He’s a threat from every spot on the field. He just took it between the tackles and lowered a shoulder to finish it off.
Cameron Jordan just got his first sack of his career
Good thing I was entirely wrong about Clayborn<Jordan pre-draft.
At least the bucs got clayborn and bowers right.
Clayborn is a great compliment to McCoy (when healthy).

Jets- Dolphins or Packers-Lions
just switching back n forth
Rahdumb the clown and the not ready for prime time players are the worst team in Buc history, the 1976 squad gets a pass cause they were an expansion team, there is no excuse for this garbage!

Ponder's hurt, Joe Webb's in.
In case there’s a person on the planet who cares about the Minnesota game.
A Minnesota loss and a Bucs loss..
…I believe moves the Bucs ahead of the Vikes in draft order.
Are you sure?
I thought min lost the tiebreaker.
Yugly.

Only tiebreaker that counts in the draft is strength of schedule
Bucs have toughest strength of schedule.
I thought their sos was higher than ours

Adam Schefter reporting Bucs expected to fire Raheem Morris.
For what it’s worth…

King would disagree

I don't get Shaun King
I can agree with some of his arguments why Raheem maybe shouldn’t be fired, but there’s no way I can buy that the Glazers won’t fire him. Should and will are two different issues.
the best part was the contract extension I think thats when i turned it off

Eh, the idea is that they can't get any good coordinators without an extension
Though I don’t see how an extension just to get coordinators would make that better
King is an idiot because even if they did bring in quality coordinators
it would just cause problems down the line, raheem would be looking over his shoulder , worrying they were gunning for his job

King is an idiot to think otherwise.
Raheem is a dead man walking!!!!

They have a real problem there.
Because he’s just good enough to keep his job and justify not drafting another QB. Then if they do, when do you pull Sanchize?
Lol.
I just got an image of the Jets’ front office saying that in the shadows behind Sanchez’s back. Poor bastard.
Titus young just caught a TD but they called it out of bounds.
Schwartz is out of challenges and is absolutely losing his mind on the sidelines.
Jared Allen just got another sack!
21 on the season. He’s now the all time single season sack king in Minnesota.
Maurice Jones-Drew with the single-season Jaguars record, now
Good on him. Love that tiny bowling ball
Same here. wish he wore pewter....

I think min loses the tie breaker if they win and we lose
but I’m not adding it up on my phone.

Right now the Vikings have a 134-106 strength of schedule
Bucs have 132-108, so it seems you’re right. Today’s games could still change that, though.
ha ha ha ha ha
Ha ha ha ha….. lol

Records dropping all over
A defensive one would be nice.

Saints going for all of them
Brees got single-season passing, Graham got single-season receiving for a TE, Sproles about to get single-season all-purpose yards.
Graham may not get te record
Only 12 yards ahead right now.
Yugly.
by aakks on Jan 1, 2012 3:26 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
He beat winslows record
but is still only 12 yards ahead of gronkowski.
Yugly.
by aakks on Jan 1, 2012 3:30 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
Ah, didn't realize Gronkowski was that close
The fact that Winslow’s record stood for so long is kind of insane, too.
Did Brady beat Marinos record?
I know Brees is way ahead but i think both broke it, right?
Yugly.

Now, lets bring on the ass beating and Claiborne in the draft!!!

They need a 96 yard td drive with 2:00 left
Yugly.
by aakks on Jan 1, 2012 3:55 PM EST via mobile up reply actions
In my opinion he already has it.
I loved how Moose had to tap dance around the fact that Strahan’s record was total BS. “He put so much fear into Favre, he couldn’t do anything but go to the ground.” lol.
If Strahan didn’t work for Fox he wouldn’t be kissing his ass.
Det winning
Atlanta may have nothing to play for.
Yugly.
by aakks on Jan 1, 2012 4:05 PM EST via mobile reply actions
wow
the bucs game will be on fox… smh the one time i dont want to watch the game its on tv. funny thing is watch the bucs play their best game possible ironically.
ALL ABOARD THE TRENT RICAHRDSON TRAIN!!!
Miami won so we pick no worse than 7
