Tampa Bay Buccaneers 53-man Roster Cuts - Ahmad Black, Ed Gant among casualties
The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have just released their final roster cuts. There are a few surprises in there, but no really big ones. Ahmad Black may be the biggest name among all cuts, but he never had a chance as he has only played a couple of downs during the preseason. Safety Devin Holland did make the team over Black, although I expect Holland to lose out on his roster spot when the Bucs bring in players over the next few days.
Surprisingly, the Bucs cut three tight ends in Daniel Hardy, Nathan Overbay and Ryan Purvis, keeping just two. They also kept a whopping seven cornerbacks, refusing to cut one of Elbert Mack, D.J. Johnson or Anthony Gaitor. I would expect the Bucs to try to bring in a tight end or two off waivers or as a free agent.
Daniel Hardy and Ahmad Black were the only draft picks the Bucs cut, as all six other draft picks did make the roster.
In addition, the Bucs placed Andrew Economos on the PUP list, which means that he won't be able to play until week 6 at the earliest. Christian Yount will handle longsnapping duties during his absence.
Hit the jump for the full list of roster cuts.
QB Rudy Carpenter, QB Jonathan Crompton
RB Armando Allen, RB Mossis Madu
FB/LB Nick Reveiz

G Thomas Claiborne, G Marc Dile (injury settlement)
DT John McCargo, DT Al Woods
DE Kyle Moore, DE Alex Magee
LB Brandon Heath, LB Simoni Lawrence, LB Derrell Smith, LB Tyrone McKenzie
S Dominique Harris, S Ahmad Black

Lawrence
It is a shame about Lawrence. He was flying around, making some really nice hits against the Redskins.
BTW, I just met my new neighbor, Adrian Clayborn. What a nice guy!
Badass.
What area does a first-round rookie live in?
Am I going MAD, or did the word "think" escape your lips?
South Tampa
Renting a townhouse, but bought his mom a house in Tampa. He signed an autograph for my son. Could not have been any nicer.
gooden was released by the ravens
tavaris gooden was released today by the ravens, would be a decent addition to the linebackers we need a back up to foster, would provide great depth, and a good special teams player IMO
Dont need him
He’s not that good… Never played that well for the Ravens….

Just a potential roster note.
Brandon Merriweather was cut by the Pats today. Good player to help at safety.
I would jump on him if I were the Bucs. Really confused as to why they dropped him, was a Pro Bowler last season or the year before.

Because he didn't deserve to be a Pro Bowler
Meriweather is undisciplined and with these new rules, a penalty waiting to happen. The Pats defense has struggled these past years against the pass, because he isn’t disciplined enough in pass defense.
That all said, I’d take a flier on him. No real downside.
Still, with the uncertainty at safety, IMO. I think it is worth a risk.
Raheem is great with attitude guys, from what I’ve seen. And the kid has talent.
I like Grimm a lot. And Sean Jones is solid. And who knows what will happen with T-Jack, with his suspension and re-instatement and blatant disregard for personal-conduct policies in the past.
Merriweather just seems like a Blount, Williams, Talib type of guy waiting to happen.

Yeah, I'd certainly try him out
Of course, Bucs aren’t going to be the only team after him, if they’re going after him at all.
I would definitely take a flier on merriweather..as far as black goes I would like to see him on the PS if anything..Will Allen was released I certainly like him more than Elbert Mack

Will Allen the 33-year-old cornerback?
Bucs aren’t signing him.
I’m pretty sure Ahmad Black is headed for the practice squad if he isn’t claimed.
Haha no he doesn’t fit our plans and he isn’t the greatest but the more we trot E Mack out there the more I feel we are going to give up a big play

Bucs already have seven cornerbacks right now
Also, please start using the subject line when posting replies.
I’m making my first trip to Tampa for the Monday night game..what are the good sport shops to go to for some Tampa gear?

Really don't understand keeping 3 running backs that have the same body type.
Not that Allen or Madu seemed like the answer to all of our prayers, but a change of pace back that actually has a change of pace would be a nice thing to have…
Chris Ivory?
Am I going MAD, or did the word "think" escape your lips?
just saw an Ivory conversation on another thread
So is Ivory on IR or was he cut?

I agree our rbs aside from blount SUCK... Not sure allen bradford deserves to play in the nfl..
I thought letting caddy go was the right move but not to bring in a honda

DE: tim crowder
CB: dj johnson
CB: elbert mack
RB: allen bradford
SS: sean jones
SS: devin holland
All above should have been cut

Sean Jones?
Are you serious? He’s a starter… Are you throwing darts at our roster to make those picks?
Am I going MAD, or did the word "think" escape your lips?
No Way
They cut Sean Jones….I’d rather have Armando Allen or Madu over Bradford also…for some reason i think us not re-signing Caddy might come back to bite us big time

I don't understand why they didn't resign him
And go for 31-year old “insurance plan” Graham… Caddy scored on two draw runs, and had akiller counter against 49’ers… Game winner against Rams… Double middle finger to Glazers!

He got put on IR
Ivory isn’t going anywhere, he is still with the Saints, but his season is over before it started.
Let's
Trade for RB Slaton and sign FS Merriweather. Go Bucs!

That's nice!
I agree we need a change of pace back and think Slaton fits the bill..its all just a pipe dream right now..Yeah Killah I don’t get it either..To late to worry about it now

Chester Taylor might be worth a look.....
The 3rd down RB is giving me some problems when I look at this team I don’t see many weaknesses. Freeman will do what he does. Blount will do what he did last year, and so will Mike Williams and K2. What I don’t understand is the non interest in Caddy who proved so useful last year. They need to scoop a quick/speedy back to compliment Blount. If they can do that……..it’s hard to find any holes in this team.

We've been through this argument already
"Let's get one thing straight that my crown ain't for testing-testing
Chop heads off like King Henry the 8th, guillotine to ya neck, bitch
I'm a king in this thing, don't be dumb, been in this shit since '94"
I’d like to see the Bucs sign . . .
Rennie Curran – OLB
Brandon Merriweather – FS
Tyrell Sutton – RB
Brandon Ghee – CB
Brandon Ghee is essentially Sabby

What's the waivers looking like? has the Practice Squad been signed up yet?
Time to shamelessly plug my book and short story!
