Tampa Bay Buccaneers Roster Cuts: who will fall in the first round of cuts?

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have to cut ten players from their 90-man roster by tomorrow, narrowing the team down to 80 players before the last preseason game. After that final preseason game, the team will have to cut another 27 players to come to the 53-man roster by September 3. So let's take a look at which players are in danger of being cut within the next day.

DEs Alex Magee and Brandon Gilbeaux

Most defensive ends have looked good this preseason, except for Alex Magee and Brandon Gilbeaux, neither of whom has shown up on the field. Brandon Gilbeaux is still eligible for the practice squad and could ultimately wind up there, but Alex Magee is not and is likely gone from the Buccaneers. The Bucs have good depth at defensive end especially so with Dekoda Watson playing the position on passing downs, and those players aren't needed anymore.

Star-divide

CBs Vince Anderson and Ashton Youboty
Plenty of cornerbacks have shown up and played well this preseason, but I have seen nothing out of Anderson and Youboty. The Bucs don't really need that much cornerback depth for the final preseason game, and neither player will actually make the roster in my estimation.

S Devin Holland
Devin Holland is the odd man out at the safety position, and he will likely be cut by tomorrow. Unlike the other players on this list he actually did stand out on the field, but in a negative way. He caused a dumb penalty in his first preseason game and decleated Danny Woodhead in the second preseason game, which was not flagged but should have been. He was fined for both.

WRs Detron Lewis and Maurice Price
The Bucs have a lot more wide receiver in camp right now than they will be carrying into the season. With Arrelious Benn returning, a couple of them will be cut. Detron Lewis has basically shown nothing so far, so he's likely gone. The other players who could be cut are Ed Gant, Aundrae Allison and Maurice Price. I'd say Price is the most likely to be cut, as he has the fewest catches and targets between the three.

RB Mossis Madu
The Bucs have five running backs (six if you count Earnest Graham) and one will probably be gone tomorrow. My guess is that Madu is the one to go, but it could also be Armando Allen Jr. Both backs are very similar. I think Allen has looked a little better so far, but Madu got carries before Allen did on Saturday.

TE Collin Franklin
Before Saturdays' game I would have probably said that Nathan Overbay was the most likely to be cut, but he looked pretty good while Collin Franklin hasn't done much so far. There's a logjam at tight end, so one of Ryan Purvis, Nathan Overbay, Collin Franklin and Daniel Hardy will likely be cut soon. It's close, but I think Franklin is the odd man out now.

FB Rendrick Taylor
Taylor hasn't shown enough this preseason to be on the roster, really. While Nick Reveiz is behind him on the depth chart, Reveiz' ability to play both linebacker and fullback may give him the nod for now.

Remember that the most important part of the cuts may not be who we cut

But who we bring in from other rosters. Blount comes to mind, and if a quality O-lineman comes on the waiver wire, Dom may catch lightning in a bottle a second time.

Good point Bucsfan

I know it’s preseason and all that blah blah blah..but let’s face it we have a tougher schedule this year and the O-line hasn’t shown me anything to make me think they have improved over last year…If Freeman is scrambling all season and Blount doesn’t have the designed holes (that’s saying he will actually run what’s designed) we are looking at a long and tough season. If Dom can pick up some O-line help it would be very beneficial.

Which makes me think to just let Blount run wild

If his designated hole gets crashed, atleast he bounced it the other side or just randomness. His vision allows him not to get plastered.
