E.J. Wilson to Injured Reserve with ruptured Achilles tendon, Bucs sign DT John McCargo
Roy Cummings of the Tampa Tribune reports that E.J. Wilson will head to injured reserve with a ruptured achilles tendon. Wilson sustained the injury late in the loss against the New England Patriots, and is the second Buccaneer to be placed on IR this preseason, after WR Raymond Webber was lost for the season with a hamstring injury.
E.J. Wilson is a defensive tackle/defensive end hybrid who has mostly played 3-technique defensive tackle for the Buccaneers this preseason, and has looked decent doing so. With Roy Miller and Brian Price both recovering from injuries, this makes the depth at defensive tackle even thinner.
The Bucs signed John McCargo to replace E.J. Wilson. McCargo was a first-round pick in 2006 for the Buffalo Bills, but never lived up to his draft status. He has appeared in 40 games, starting one game and recording 2.5 sacks, all of those in the 2007 season. It's very unlikely McCargo makes it to the regular season

Too bad.
He was really coming on as of late. Don’t know much about McCargo but I guess we’ll see what he’s got.
Recent Transplant to FL
Hello all, new to BucsNation, but regular member of Buffalo Rumblings (SB Nation’s Bills blog). I also recently moved to the Tampa area.
John McCargo couldn’t earn a job on the Bills defense. You know, the 32nd ranked run defense last year? We tried to trade him to the Colts but had to take him back – failed his physical. The Bills are a slightly dysfunctional organization (‘though we believe those problems are behind us), but McCargo is NOT a good player. Else we’d have used him. The Bucs should cut him as soon as they confirm the Bills were not crazy to let him go.
He could eat a lot of chicken wings and tell if they’re genuine Buffalo style or not! ;o)

After doing more research...
he probably won’t make the roster. This was probably a knee-jerk reaction to EJ Wilson going on IR.
Agreed
If he makes the roster, the Bucs are not nearly as good as I thought.

Very low risk camp depth.
If he flashes whatever talent he was supposed to have, then the Bucs just picked up another steal from the scrap heap. If he doesn’t, cut him, no harm done.

True Dat
If playing for Rah in a 4-3 doesn’t get you motivated, then you should just retire.
I hope he proves us all wrong and comes out with a fire under his ass, knowing he is being given one last chance and finally lives up to his 1st round billing.
Is our other Former Bill doing anything, CB Youboty?

He said he likes the staff...
and hes motivated to revive his career and be that first round pick he was supposed to be. Heres his chance.
Ridiculously off subject
Thoughts on Terrell Pryor? I hear he wants to play QB but would work with coaches if changes is need. I mean we can use some o that speed on the edge at WR, he’s a big target. Sounds good and I know it’s unlikely but I had to

With his size and speed...
converting him to the TE position might be his best option to have an NFL career.

Very true
But wouldn’t it be worth it? I mean in a way this could be the “big splash” sign the Bucs can make. He’d fit into what the front office is doing, taking on project players and developing the in-house youth. He’d fit in man, it’d be nice to steal an athlete that from the supplemental draft. He’d be a nice wideout or pass down tight end but either way he’s mismatched as a target. Like I said I know it’s unlikely, he’ll go where ever he can play QB first. I’ll keep my fingers crossed.

So with Williams, Benn, Stroughter, Briscoe, Parker, Spurlock and Sanders competing for spots right now...
You think Pryor would be a good project to bring in as a WR?
I’ll be perfectly honest, I’ve never seen Pryor play, so clearly I don’t know what I’m talking about, but, even still, I just don’t see it. I could see a team like the Panthers doing that, they need help at wide receiver, but not us…. We have far more pressing concerns.
Am I going MAD, or did the word "think" escape your lips?
You'd have to carry him on the roster for 2+ years, during which he wouldn't be able to make any impact
Some team like IND will probably end up taking him
Working daily with Peyton Manning for a few years could give him the knowledge to stay at the QB position and be successful. He’ll need to get over that “Me first” thing however…

Is Ohio State OT Mike Adams in this supplemental draft?
I think he would be worth a last round pick – some talk of him being a Round 1-2 prospect.
I've never heard or seen Mike Adams
But we have depth issues at oline, any pickup now might help down the road. Lets go get him!
Nope
I don’t really see anyone worth drafting in the supplemental draft. DE Mike McAdoo has some potential, but he was suspended for the year and never even started a game, and I think the Bucs are pretty full at DE anyway.
Give McAdoo a shot with a 6th round tender
Why not? Maybe he could be our Blount?
Another guy to push the youngsters and perhaps put some more heat on Moore?
You think we offer up anything for Prior? (Could be a nice developmental guy for when JJ leaves next yr.)

The problem with Pryor as a developmental player is that he's years removed from being able to play in the NFL
Having him take up a roster spot is a waste, especially so because he’s not going to be able to contribute at all this year. And if you want to stash him on the practice squad, he has to pass through waivers anyway, making it kind of wasted draft pick. I don’t see the need to give up anything on him, really. You can get talented running QBs late in every draft if you need them, and then you can put them through an actual offseason
That's just one way of looking at it.
Rudy Carpenter is a bum and Josh Johnson wants to start. We can develop Pryor behind Freeman who plays the exact same QB style as #5. He’s the best athlete in this supplemental, and a late pick I nothing of value to the bucs. I say if we were to take a risk I’d be confident in the team gambling on him. Good QB even better athlete.

Pryor does not play the same style as Freeman
Pryor is a one-read-and-run passer, he’s inaccurate, and doesn’t throw the ball with any velocity.
