They don't normally fire a coach when he is so dearly loved by his players.

“He lost the team,” is normally something you hear when a coach is fired. These guys love Rah, and are fired up to play for him. For Price to fawn over Rah after what happened shows how much love these guys have for him.

You could infer that, but that isn't the case.

I think a lack of talent, inexperience (not youth) from both the coaches and players, and crappy play-calling have all contributed to our record. The reason why I say inexperience and not youth is that plenty of young players thrive in this league, but normally they are in a situation on which they have veterans to help guide them along. We don’t have a Ray Lewis, Brian Dawkins, Tom Brady, etcetera to help with that process. And you could say Ronde, but he has never been a vocal leader, he leads with his play.

The amount of love, or whatever you want to call it

is over rated, over blown and tedious. It’s obviously completely irrelevant to how they play. They can love him to death it still won’t help them win any games, I for one and sick of hearing about it.

The point I was trying to make was that coaches don't normally get fired when the players like the coach.

It still happens though, Jeff Fisher is an example. A lot of players didn’t like Gruden when he was fired.

Keeping a coach just because the players love him is not a very good reason.

That is the first thing a person says when you ask him why Raheem should not be fired, “because the players love him”. All the love in the world still equals no respect, no respect equals blown assignments, not being in your gap and stupid penalties. i believe they would play harder for someone they respect rather than someone they love.

I can't refute anything you said, but I think the players respect Rah more than you think.

Although, I’m not in the locker so it would be hard to say definitively.

The owners could care less if the players love or hate the coach.

The players are just happy to have the job they have and will work for whoever the owners bring in for the job. When their contracts are up, they can follow who ever they want, but that very rarely happens.

That kind of criticism always comes out after a coach is fired, though

When a coach is friendly with players you hear “He couldn’t discipline anyone.” When a coach is a disciplinarian you hear something like “he created an atmosphere of paranoia”. And when he’s Jon Gruden, you hear “He just told you what you wanted to hear.”

Raheem is Mike Singeltary 2.0

Tough talk with nothing to show for it, all show and no go. Raheem is not and never will be a good head coach, he is a position coach just like Singletary.

I don't think a coach who can get his team to win 10 games in a season should be compared to Singletary.

I understand you don’t like him and that he isn’t the best coach, but he has had some success. What if we keep him this year, and we have a good record for the next couple of seasons? Would you still feel the same way?

The point is I'm sure the 49rs "loved" playing for a legend like Singletary

but they didn’t respect him enough to win

Haha that's true

but he did say something about “taking off underwear and putting on the big boy pants” or something like that. That quote always reminds me of Singletary.

Morris said something like that.

And please forget about last year, it’s gone and over and honestly was a fluke.

Why wouldn't Bowers play over Bennett after last week?

He had one of the best games by a defensive end I’ve ever seen. He was amazing. I said it all year that they shouldn’t be stunting his development by playing a middle of the road player like Bennett over him.

If he was truly still slightly injured that’s one thing, but Bowers is the future. When he is clearly outproducing Bennett I don’t see why you wouldn’t start him. Especially now that this season is officially in the toilet.

I think the only reason to limit him would be if his knee still isn't fully healed.

You don’t want to overwork the guy. If his knee is 100%, I agree he looked amazing and definitely deserves the majority of the snaps.

It's your right to do so, and if memory serves we've disagreed on this before.

But his production hasn’t been outstanding by any means. In my opinion Bennett is a guy that could start in a pinch for most NFL teams, but he’s never going to be an elite talent. That’s middle of the road to me.

That's fair

I think he’d be a good starter for a lot of teams, but I’d certainly say that Bowers’s unique physical talent gives him a much higher ceiling.

I’ve been really impressed by Bowers over the past two weeks. He didn’t show much in the first half of the season, but he’s flashed some ridiculous things the past few games. He still lacks experience and skills, but that just takes time.

Speaking of getting rid of Morris...

I just read an article on ESPN by Pat Yasinskas on who could possibly save the Buccaneers if they decide to fire Morris at the end of the season. The name that came up was Tony Dungy and quite frankly, the only way I would advocate firing Morris is if the Glazers groveled at the feet of Dungy and brought him back to coaching. He fits the organization to a tee, the team would be a lot more disciplined, and he would create an enormous buzz that would send shockwaves through the fan base due to the fact that he is still beloved by Buc fans across the nation. Otherwise, there’s no way that anyone can tell me that Bill Cowher or Jeff Fisher is a fit.

by TB86 on Dec 8, 2011 1:51 PM EST via mobile reply actions

I could see bringing in Dungy as as a CEO or something but not as head coach

The glazer boys could use the help, they obviously don’t know what they are doing, or they just don’t care.
