Green Bay and New England, according to that chart,

have the two worst defenses in yards allowed per game. Yet, they are two of the best teams in the league. Goes to show you what a great offense can do for you.

I think the old adage goes "Offense wins games...

and Defense wins championships". Last year GB actually had a pretty good D, and its true they may have regressed a bit this season, but are probably more “bend than break” at this point. I am unsure where they fall in the “Turnover Ratio” category.

Other playoff bound teams like HOU and SF are winning with their DEF now, and just scoring enough to win.

by Cracker Ball on Dec 6, 2011 10:15 AM EST up reply actions

Yardage is a terrible to reckon quality of offenses

It ignores turnovers, and ignores game situation. Good offenses force teams to play catchups, leading to lots of throws and lots of yardage, but also more turnovers. Having big leads also lets teams play prevent defense.

Anyway, New England has a pretty horrible pass defense. Green Bay’s is about average.

by Sander on Dec 6, 2011 10:32 AM EST up reply actions

Difference is they can create turnovers.

especially Green bays. Saints superbowl team did it too. So you can have a pretty bad defense but if you give up alot a yards but take the ball away, its all good.

Get it to Winslow. He's open!!!!

by dcbucsfan on Dec 6, 2011 5:20 PM EST up reply actions

Also, you have to remember that when you're up 35-7

You go into a prevent and the other team throws more. More garbage yards that mean nothing.

As you can always expect come from behind victory is when you least expect it.

OK, nothing about JJ not being who we thought he was??

I’ll be the first one to tell ya, a week ago I thought JJ was worthing locking up as a backup. This whole Tebow/VY(5years ago) option that has never equated into a professional package eeked me knowing that we had QB that could outrun everybody. He proven again that he can’t formulate plays with his arm AND legs. I know there was alot of discussion baby.

He isn't that bad as a backup.

Who else would you want to have as a backup?

Oderint dum metuant

by jBen05 on Dec 6, 2011 10:30 AM EST up reply actions

I would prefer more of a pocket-style QB with better fundamentals...

hopefully a vet that can unspectacularly manage a game. Not an athlete. Make a WR out of JJ – if he can catch.

by Cracker Ball on Dec 6, 2011 10:48 AM EST up reply actions

A vet back-up can be signed as a F/A...

so has no impact on Dom ability to draft. Just a safety valve in case Freeman goes down for an extended period.

Some guy like a Marc Bulger (or anyone not named Delhomme)

by Cracker Ball on Dec 6, 2011 10:56 AM EST up reply actions

Eh

I’d rather have JJ than Bulger. I’d only do it if JJ leaves.

Yugly.

maybe a veteran type

Get it to Winslow. He's open!!!!

Bruce Gradkowski when he's hot

by Titankillah on Dec 6, 2011 11:16 AM EST up reply actions

JJ is clearly a developmental player...

and far from being a polished QB. If your starter goes down, wisdom suggests you must have somebody that can still keep your season afloat. True JJ is a tremendous athlete but still gets pretty nervous out there. A Bulger, Gradkowski or Kitna type vet QB can hang in there under pressure, and though they may not make the splash plays, can guide a team and manage a game.

Remember, BAL won their Superbowl with Trent Dilfer, so amazing is not required.

by Cracker Ball on Dec 6, 2011 11:40 AM EST up reply actions

He really wasn't terrible

The defense was the big problem Sunday not JJ. I agree he’s a backup not a starter, but he’s a good backup. I hope we’re able to keep him but some team might take a chance on him starting.

Yugly.

by aakks on Dec 6, 2011 10:44 AM EST up reply actions

I think, if given time he could be a fringe starter.

He throws a nice ball but hasn’t had a chance to develop pocket presence yet. A lot of guys are skittish early on, but he threw some fantastic passes on Sunday

As you can always expect come from behind victory is when you least expect it.

I thought he looked mad rough

And no big gain?

Backup qbs are meant to manage the game.

It’s what most of them in the league do, very few can go out in win the game. The defense stunk from the 1st drive Carolina took only 7 plays to march in the endzone. Johnson was put in a tough spot immediately and I actually thouth he played ok considering he hasn’t started a game over 2 yrs. I can’t blme this on him and if Freeman played it probably wouldn’t have made that much of a difference and who knows if the good or bad Freeman shows up.

by Brian Ahmed on Dec 6, 2011 11:58 AM EST up reply actions

Blount is echoing Morris' comments (which I hate, for the record)
Blount went on to say that Johnson acquitted himself well, saying, “We didn’t miss a beat with Josh Johnson in there. I don’t know what else we can ask for. He’s a solid backup.

As you can always expect come from behind victory is when you least expect it.

by Buc Wild on Dec 6, 2011 10:44 AM EST reply actions

You hate what exactly?

I agree with Blount’s comment here, although ’didn’t miss a beat’ is a bit of an exaggeration.

Yugly.

by aakks on Dec 6, 2011 10:46 AM EST up reply actions

THis is getting old becuase A) its not true and B) we have no capacity for it.
You’ve got to go out and play fast. You’ve got to play hard and you’ve got to play consistent and smart

As you can always expect come from behind victory is when you least expect it.
