Will you promise not to run on us this upcoming weekend?
Not that you will even need to at this point. Just trying to make the game fair…..
Where in AZ are you?
I can’t promise that, Barian Fostate (Arian Foster Ben Tate 1-2 KO punch) is rocking at 600 yds + a piece. yesterday they put up 262 yds against the browns. And with Andre looking like he will sit one more week they are gonna probably be the go to play. I saw the bucs are having problems stopping run games, and Kubiak isnt an idiot. He proved it by finally winning a challenge yesterday.

Being thin at DT will be a issue for us
concerning the run. I am not expecting to win this game, I see Shaub having a good game along with Foster/Tate having their way with our inconsistent D.
I am in Phoenix (East valley)
Ahh I live in the mountains,
Flagstaff…
A lot of problems I have been seeing with opposing Defenses against Barian Fostate is that teams prep for Foster, and then get blown up by Tate due to the difference in running style. Foster is an uber elusive back, who is patient with great vision, Tate has a tendency for running over people than juking. also quick, and his vision is getting better.

Is because it looks like another loss for our team. Things suck for us right now and everyines off sync. Foster/tate will have field days

You are right we are Jekyl and Hyde
And after two terrible losses, if we have any fight left at all they had better use every ounce of it next Sunday. Honestly, that’s probably the only thing you have to worry about.
Yugly.
I had us at 9-7 at the beginning of the year
I can’t even remember if I had this down as a win, but I’m pretty sure it will be a loss now, sad.

I am afraid the 200+ yard game by CAR a couple of years back...
will look gentle by comparison. We are going to get steamrolled by HOU the likes we have never seen before. I bet its a record (albeit a dubious one) ground attack with 300 yds. on the ground possible by Foster and Tate.
Prediction = Not pretty.
I got some questions for Buc fans.
How is Bowers doing? With McCoy out is fomer Texan frank okam going to start? How has Zac Diles looked for you guys?
Bowers hasn't done much
He’s looked decent when he’s played, but he’s been pushed down the depth chart by the excellent play of left end Michael Bennett.
Frank Okam will probably start if he’s healthy. He was out last game with a calf injury.
Another question for Bucs fans
What’s your biggest offensive and defensive weapons? Weaknesses? Sounds like NT is a big weakness for your D, but are your people in the secondary capable of coming up and stuffing the run?
Good luck on Sunday, hopefully both teams come out with no injuries (and Texans W).
we dont have any weapons right now
everyones playing like they can be upgraded right now, or at least thats my take on it. Mccoy was our best defensive player and you wont see him in action.
And no our secondary cant tackle anybody right now, nor can they defend the pass. Thank god we dont see andre johnson in this game

AJ hasn't been ruled out yet.
But I highly doubt they’ll play him much (if at all).
We have no viable weapons on offense and
Defensively they are playing horrible…. You texans fans should not be too concerned about this game….
I can smell a blow out a coming… I hate to say it but your two beast RB’s will probably have a field day on our D.

Let down game?
Is this a game that you see your team winning, only if the Texans have a let down?
I guess it might just be early in the week, but I am getting a kind of downer vibe reading the comments.
I found this game to be interesting earlier in the season, now I feel Texans should win.
The Bucs have peices that could play into their hands.

Home Field? our home field wont be much of an advantage.
Seriously though, We dont match up with you well. You have a great running game and we cant stop anyone from running on us. Offesnsively, we are in a major rut. We are suppose to be a physial running team but were not. Blount sure can run, but our idiot of OC wont feed him the ball consistently enough.
Our WR’s cant seem to run good consistent routes or even catch the ball consistently. Our QB is struggling bigtime this year… He has had only one decent game this year and that was at home against the Saints…

How's the Old Texas D looking at this point?
It looked real strong in preseason but I haven’t seen a game since.
Evolved
It has been the single greatest transformation in the history of things transforming into other shet.
From last to first, half way through the season, I don’t remember the Texans ever in the history of their franchise being ranked in the top ten , let alone first this late in the season.

OK- I'm recovered enough to ask a few questions
Related to Brooklyn Buc’s question: we all know how good Jonathan Joseph is (half of us here were screaming at the front office to grab him before you could)- how’s the rest of the Texans’ secondary?
Also- how susceptible is the Texans’ O-line to the pass rush?
Fire. Greg. Olson. NOW.
DB's
With Joseph signing, the FO was able to go out and really shore up the back end with Manning. Instead of waiting around fo scrabble.
It really comes down to Wade Phillips, and the Scheme he has implemented here in Houston. We have so many first rounders/ second rounders on that Defense, that we have just been waiting for them to break out. The secondary and linebackers coaches Wade has brought in have really helped these players adapt to this scheme quicker then any of us could imagine.
The Texan Floater, you wanna flush it but you can't.

Pass Rush
They have given up some pass deflections to defensive linemen, which really throws off the offense as much as a sack. Yet they are susceptible to giving up pressure, if you can contain the Texans early, keeping the running game in check then you will get more chances at the QB.

I'd like to think that we have a shot of containing your running game
But I really. really. really doubt that we will.
Fire. Greg. Olson. NOW.
not many teams can contain foster
especially teams that are horrible against the run, he might get 100 in the first quarter…. dead serious
Problem with that is gameplanning for Foster helps out Tate
Teams have to protect the backside on Foster to prevent the cutback runs. However by doing that all the times plays into Ben Tate’s strength who plows into defenders & pushes the pile, but he also has the ability to make those cutback runs, just not as smoothly & effortlessly as Foster makes it look.

The only teams that have contained the Texans offense
have been, BAL, and OAK. Raiders I chalk up to Al Davis’s Death, Balitmore shut down Foster which forced us to pass, and left us susceptible to DL pinning ears back. If you can’t contain the run game, Kubiak will play action you all day, and honestly Schaub is one of the best at selling the run. this kills pass rushes.

To be fair.
Oakland and Baltimore both have extremely talented, extremely large and extremely athletic defensive lines.
Houston’s offensive line is built to run the ZBS, which means lighter athletic linemen, especially up the middle. That’s why we’re a bit susceptible to bigger, more athletic defensive fronts.

Not to mention both run Zone blocking schemes
Oakland has been doing it for a while whereas Vonta Leach apparently gave the Ravens a crash course on it when he got there, so it’s no surprise that they were both prepared for it

The secondary has looked pretty good, aside from Kareem Jackson.
Joseph has been everything we wanted in a #1 CB. Kareem Jackson is another issue. We still don’t know why he’s starting at the #2 CB when Jason Allen has 3 INTs on the year & Brice McCain has 1 INT at the nickel CB. He has looked slightly better this season, but not by much. If Freeman can consistently throw in Kareem’s direction, the Bucs could have a chance. However, when Jason Allen comes in, it’s a slightly different story. Freeman may be able to throw underneath routes against him, but if he tries to go deep, Allen gets opportunistic & goes for the pick. Allen has been pretty good at not getting beat deep, something Kareem can’t say.
The major difference is actually having competent safeties this season. Quin is great at run support & covering the slot. Manning has been good at run support & covering deep, however he won’t be playing as he’s still recovering from a broken leg. Troy Nolan has been starting in his place & he just seems to have a nose for the ball if it’s in his vicinity. Also the re-signing of Quinten Demps is paying dividends right away. He was very active against the Browns and the way he’s playing has a lot of us wondering why he got cut in the first place.
As far as the O-Line goes, they’re playing on another level this season. The play action game is gonna deter the pass rush because they’re great at disguising it by making their pass blocking & run blocking look very similar. They’re hell bent on getting two 1,000 rushers this season & doing their best at protecting Schaub. However it seems like all the talk of them being “dirty” has been getting on their nerves & they’re taking it out on the other defenses.

Texans' Postseason Aspirations
Bucs fans can empathize with being an expansion team that’s been a punching bag for most of its early years. Now that it looks like you have the division in your grasp, will it be enough to reach the playoffs and do you need to make a deeper run for the fanbase to feel satisfied with this year’s effort? On a related note, the AFC looks a bit leaderless at the midway point in the season with perennial favorites like the Patriots, Jets, Ravens, Steelers, and Chargers all showing weaknesses to one extent or another, and Cinderella stories like the Bills and Bengals still competitive with their records. The stars may be aligned for Houston to make this their year. What team do you see as the Texans’ biggest obstacle to going all the way?
Fire. Greg. Olson. NOW.
Playoff Hopes
I think most of the fanbase, while realizing this is the franchise’s first go around in the playoffs, wants at least a win in the playoffs. I know I do. I feel like the Texans match up well with any team in the AFC. The most glaring advantage that teams have on the Texans is the playoff experience. Playoffs bring much more pressure and physicality than the regular season.
The possible match ups can be Texans vs. Jets, Patriots, Bills, Steelers, Ravens, Chargers, or Bengals. I think Chargers are the most talented team in the AFC West so I give them the nod.
Out of those possible match ups, I feel like the Texans should be able to beat the Patriots, Chargers, Bengals, and Bills anywhere. But the Jets, Steelers, and Ravens would probably depend on home field advantage. I picked the Texans to beat the Patriots anywhere because they simply don’t have a defense.
Texans get a lot of crap for being a team that finds a way to lose. I never bought that. In 2009, we went 9-7. If the Colts don’t rest their starters against the Jets, the Texans make the playoffs.
The next off season, we lose our best Corner, Dunta Robinson, to free agency. We draft a CB in the first round and insert him into the starting line up. We lose Brian Cushing for first 4 games, Demeco Ryans for the season in game 6(?), Connor Barwin in game 1 for the season, and Mario Williams is playing with a Hernia. Combine that with an incompetent DC and you have the worst defense in the league. In 2009, the Texans had a pretty good D. Enough to put them in a tie for the last playoff spot.
Anyways, now the Texans essentially have a new defense. A rejuvenated Brian Cushing, sort of healthy Demeco Ryans, healthy Connor Barwin, great Corner in Johnathan Joseph, Glover Quin moves to Safety, little bit more experienced Kareem Jackson, rookie JJ Watt, rookie Brooks Reed. And Wade Phillips to put it all together.
Now the Texans don’t “find a way to lose” because their defense is here and it’s dirty.
I figured that if I said it enough, I would convince the world that I really was the greatest.

and I forgot Danieal Manning, he was playing very well too.

Agreed that the Pats' defense is atrocious this year- I'd pick Houston in that matchup
Fire. Greg. Olson. NOW.
My take
I want to see an honorable playoff game from the Texans. If we are one-and-done but just honestly get beat, I could live with that (this year). If we show up clearly just happy to be there and get blown out by a wild-card team…may there be blood among the coaching staff during the off season.
Biggest obstacle? Ourselves. If we keep taking it a day at a time, stay hungry, and don’t make stupid coaching mistakes (see: HB pass at the goal line) then we can hang with anyone in the NFL.
Seems like you guys finally have some stability in the coaching staff
Wade has been a huge asset for your team, it seems. Hope if you guys go one-and-out you take it in and use as motivation to make a deep run next year.

A Texans home playoff game, expectations rise.
Yet either way winning our first playoff game would pretty much be a winning season.

Honestly
I know this team can make it to Indy in February. I think this team can take any team in the AFC and win, even the steelers, ravens, and specially the JETS! Though some teams have gotten to an early lead there are no one besides the Texans you can say is going to the playoffs with a high probability. Patriots are being exposed by their lack of Defense. Ravens have been explosive one game and came out flat others. Pitt has a bad O-Line, and an aging D. Cincy has astonished I think everyone, but Dalton is a rookie, and can be taken advantage of. Bills look good but I am not to sure about them just yet. Jets, while rex ryan is the smarter of the Ryan brothers, Mark Sanchez is not a franchise QB, and has road on the coattails of their defense, and heads up I think the Texans could dominate that team. SD scares me, because they always start slow then explode then implode in the playoffs, if the Texans can get Homefield and meet SD in the AFCC game, we can win. I am not saying I expect to win out go to the SB and bring home the Trophy, but it is possible and I wouldnt be surprised if we do. there are two teams I am really scared of opposing, Green Bay, and New Orleans, because of their 5 wide set. but GBs Defense is supsect this year, and if we played 4 qts of football against the Saints we would have won that game. One day I will see my Texans holding the lombardi, i dont think this year but they will give everyone a run for their money!

I haven't
seen Kubes call a play like this, but I am sure there is one designed. Mostly because both could be used to confuse a d, who is getting the ball is it a pass or run, but the again with James Casey as our FB that is also a concern since he can run, block, and catch passes. What the Texans do do often is move Casey or Foster in motion to confuse defenses.

If only Blunt could block or catch out of the backfield, the plays the Bucs could use if he does learn would be epic.

I still think we've gotta give him a shot
Pulling him on 3rd down immediately telegraphs the pass, and Lumpkin’s got nothing on Blount in blocking, as far as I’ve seen. Blount’s actually been decent at catching this year.

Hasn't happened this year.
Wouldn’t be the least bit surprised to see it at some point (such as in a wishbone with James Casey at FB… the possibilities of a formation like that are endless). I think the biggest obstacle to a formation like this is that Tate has shown precisely nothing as a receiver out of the backfield.

I have
been waiting for a wishbone… I wonder when they will use it maybe this weekend or against tampa.

How have Brooks Reed/J.J Watt/All the picks you used on defense this year worked?

You will get to see
Brooks Reed and JJ “1.8 Giga” Watt in your backfield all day. to his credit JJ gets a lot of pressures and only 6 sacks so far… Reed/Barwin mix have stepped up in Mario’s absence. Brandon Harris is mostly ST guy, though in the Dime he is already showing he was a good pick. Johnathan Joseph is apparently so scary hardly anyone throws to him. Daniel Manning was doing so well at safety up until he broke his fibula on an interception a couple weeks ago. This is def not the same defense as last year and I thank Wade Phillips for that.

Exceptionally well, for the most part.
JJ Watt is making a case for being the third DROY for the Texans. He doesn’t put up sack numbers like Von Miller or Aldon Smith, but he’s also not in quite as pass-rushey of a position. He has been tremendous in pass rushing and run stuffing and is absolutely relentless. You never see him taking a play off.
Brooks Reed, I think, has surprised everyone. Mostly because we were hoping he wouldn’t see the field a ton. He has been steadily improving since Mario was injured against the Raiders and had a coming out party in a serious way last Sunday against the Browns. He’s already notched 4.5 sacks and has only started 4 games.
Brandon Harris is our second round pick and I think most Texans fans are a little baffled by why he hasn’t seen much playing time. He’s usually inactive on Sundays, but we’re hopeful that’s more because they’re trying to turn him into an awesome corner rather than throwing him into a situation he’s not prepared for. *cough*Kareem Jackson*cough*
Going further down than that in the draft and it’s mostly depth guys and the like. Roc Carmichael (CB) was our 4th rounder and is on IR but didn’t look world-shattering in the preseason. Shiloh Keo (S, 5th Round) looked downright awful in the preseason but has made moderate strides in being capable of actually tackling on special teams.
TJ Yates and Derek Newton haven’t done much as one would expect from 5th and 7th rounders, and Mr. Irrelevant is, well, not on the team or practice squad any more.
