The White Knight/Blue Sky Thread, a.k.a. You Know Who We Need? THIS Guy!

Hey all. I thought I'd throw this out here as a general catch-all for discussing the guys we think might hold the key(s) to us attaining future success. Free agents after the current season you think we should offer a huge contract, rookie prospects you think we should draft, coaches and coordinators you think we should hire to get our team back on track- any and all of the above.

Who's the Bucs' white knight?

A couple of interesting free agents

There’s a list of the players who will be free agents after the season here.

A couple of interesting possibilities present themselves. For instance, if Chicago is stupid enough to play hard ball with Matt Forte, how huge a pick-up would he be? Rashean Mathis has had a lot of injuries, but he’d be a great addition to our soon-to-be-depleted cornerback corps if he can stay healthy. If we want to pick up a deep threat receiver, what about DeSean Jackson or Dwayne Bowe? Jarret Johnson would be a huge upgrade over Hayes and Black at OLB. Thoughts?

Id be in love with dom if he brought jackson here or bowe

And what about laron landry. Having him and tanard start would be nice then get some corners and linebackers in the draft

Honestly...

We have too much talent at WR to really be thinking about bringing in help there. I think the scheme and/or play calling really doesn’t match and own up to this Offenses potential and I wonder if even bringing anyone in from FA/Draft would even help??? (thoughts)

If I’m the coaching staff I’m looking at serious upgrades at LB, CB and SS and OL (not necessarily in that order). As well as throw in an OC. Possibly offer the OC from OSU a contract? (jjklein through that idea out there). I’m not against moving Alex Van Pelt up either……I guess he has worked exstensively in offense through his tenure with Buffalo and Tampa and according to the Bills was offered opportunity to move up to any other position if that was his will. Just a thought. Anyone have any thoughts on an OC other than Olsen? lol

mmmm....when I said OL

I really meant……find a solid replacement for Trueblood. Lol

OSU OC = Todd Monken

I’ve brought him up in other threads- he’s someone I’d definitely want us to consider.

There aren’t too many good RTs that will be on the FA market this year- Kareem McKenzie is one, but he’s 32- bit old for the current management’s tastes.

What do you think of Jarret Johnson or Rashean Mathis?

Too much talent at WR?

Mike Williams is having a ginormous sophomore slump. Arrelious Benn can’t get on the field (for whatever reason), Briscoe is replacement level, Parker is promising in the slot, and Stroughter is invisible.

How is that too much talent at WR? Green Bay is about the only team in the league that has too much talent at WR. All we have are a bunch of question marks.

Desean Jackson or Dwayne Bowe would be a great addition to that receiving corp. Jackson more than Bowe because we need a burner, but Bowe is supremely talented and will be an asset wherever he goes.

I think Bowe would add more to the team than Jackson

Jackson is essentially a one-trick pony. He’s very good at that one trick, but it’s still his only trick. Bowe is more complete and can make tough catches in coverage and in traffic. I prefer that over someone with speed and nothing else.

Though, realistically, the Bucs will sign neither.

and Williams would probably be a better #2.

I just think Jackson’s speed is needed to give the offense a different dynamic.

If we hired Marty Mornhinweg as our HC...

I bet DeSean Jackson would make the switch too.

Norv Turner as OC.

They said it would take a miracle for him to be back next season.

Norv can run an offense, he just cant run a team

its been proven he just cant cut it as a head coach, don’t know if his ego would get in the way, i just don’t see him taking a step down and becoming an OC.

Let's bring in Brandon Jacobs...

Thats a power backfield with Blount and Jacobs…

by Mathew K on Nov 19, 2011 5:36 PM EST reply actions

I'm not against having a guy like Jacobs on our roster...

…but if we’re going to make a splash in free agency I wouldn’t want it to be for a running back. Jacobs would require a hefty contract and would by no means be a sure thing. I’d rather draft a young scat-back type in later rounds (no idea who that would be) and maybe bring in a veteran 3rd down back like (face slap) Cadillac Williams.

If we’re going to spend real money on offensive free agents I’d be more excited to see a receiver (Jermichael Finley, Desean Jackson, Dwayne Bowe or Steve Johnson). Carl Nicks (left guard in New Orleans) would be a huge signing but i doubt they’ll let him go.

Am I going MAD, or did the word "think" escape your lips?

Cornerback help

It’s been brought up in others threads that due to Talib’s uncertain future/Ronde’s retirement/Myron Lewis’ utter failure, etc. we should look for a cornerback in FA in addition to drafting one (if not two) next year. Of the cornerbacks entering free agency after the season, who do you think is worth trying to get?

Carlos Rogers would be ideal, but it’s a safe assumption that SF will offer him a huge contract to keep him as their #1 moving forward.

Cortland Finnegan and Brent Grimes are probably the biggest names that will be available. I mentioned Rashean Mathis above, but he’s 32 and injured (again).
