Some Solace
Hi, all. Long time reader and finally decided to join up. I was just wondering if anybody cares about the fact the Bucs have faced the second highest strength of schedule thus far at .571 and that includes playing the 0-9 Colts. I know this does not excuse the horrendous defensive play (25th in defensive DVOA from football outsiders) and regression of the offense, although they are still in the top half of the league in offensive DVOA. I guess the point I am trying to make is the Bucs have had an absolutely brutal schedule thus far and that doesn't change next week against the Packers, but they are still 4-5 and have an outside chance to make the playoffs (with an improbable run and some help). Maybe, just maybe, the season hasn't really been all that embarrassing... well upon further inspection of the Niners and Texans games, I guess it has.

Interesting
That doesn’t excuse our inability to tackle and our stupid penalties. Take a few of those red zone turnovers back and perhaps we have a competitive team. Oh yeah and we cant move the ball until the second half. The schedule defiantly looked easier before the season started. Turned out these teams were better than we expected.
Sure, the competition has been tough
But that doesn’t excuse the level of play that the Bucs have exhibited. Here’s a key statistic for us to examine: points against. -77. That’s second worst in the NFC, tied for third worst in the NFL.
I’d be fine with our record if I felt we’d played hard in each of these games. But that’s simply not the case. The Bucs have demonstrated zero capability to adapt and improve; on the contrary, our games have been defined by horrific and amateurish play-calling and sloppy execution and penalties. We’re not victims of our schedule. We’re playing below our potential, and we don’t deserve to make the playoffs the way that we’ve been playing.
