Who Is Tampa Bay's "MIB?"

PrintThe 2010 NFL season is upon us and many teams are dealing with multiple injuries, holdouts and suspensions to key players. Eli Manning of the New York Giants suffered a lacerated forehead that required 13 stitches. Vincent Jackson of the San Diego Chargers is holding out of training camp and Ben Rothliesberger of the Pittsburgh Steelers is suspended for at least the first four games of the season.
These players as well as others are valuable members to their perspective ballclub and some may argue that they are their teams “Most Indispensible Players”. With the recent injury to Tampa Bay Buccaneers Quarterback Josh Freeman, do Tampa Bay faithful believe that he is the one player that they cannot afford to lose this season? Is Josh Freeman the “Most Indispensible Buccaneer”?
Most indispensible Buccaneer (player) is someone that if missing from the lineup will give the opposing team the opportunity to exploit the perceived weakness of their opponent. Who do you think are perceived to be Tampa Bay’s “MIB” on offense and defense?
Jeff Faine – Missed the first quarter of the 2009 season. The Bucs started Sean Mahan in Faine’s absence and promptly released Mahan upon Faine’s return.
Tanard Jackson – Missed the first four games of the 2009 season. Opposing teams torched the Bucs in the air and on the ground during his suspension.
Donald Penn – Threatened to hold out for the season if he was not tendered a new contract. He is believed to be needed to protect Josh Freeman’s blind side.
Barrett Rudd – Led the team in tackles last season. He is also looking for a long-term contract.
Mike Williams – Already being considered a fantasy sleeper and quarterback Josh Freeman’s go to guy.
Gerald McCoy – This year’s third overall draft pick who is expected to stop the bleeding in the opposing team run game.
Kellen Winslow Jr. – Led the team in receptions last year. Surgically repaired knees are always a concern.
Josh Freeman – Franchise quarterback?
Let me know if there is someone I missed or if that “MIB” is not on the roster just yet.

Interesting post.
Made me realize we don’t really have that one indispensable player yet. I voted for Faine b/c the line was pretty terrible w/o him but I hope Freeman becomes that guy this year.
5 picks out of the first 100 in a draft saturated with talent. Yes, I'm optimistic.

because I really think we get torched without him. Faine and Penn are key, but Freeman was my second choice. J.J. needed a decent showing in the worst way.
QB is the most important player on the field.
That being said, we have some serious depth issues. As of now, Morris and Dom and done to what appears to be a decent job of drafting young starters, BUT, have done nothing to address the backup rolls. If any of our starters (except Rudd) were to go down, we’d have problems.

he was are offense last year and if the recievers don’t pan out this season he is gonna be are offense again
I would say he is the best TE in the league but then i would get my head ripped off by the Vernon Davis and Dallas Clark fanbase

Even with his 6knee surgerys, he has the fire to become greater than his dad and it shows. Without that big, fast target who fights for every yard, we’d be up s***’s creek.

What about Brent Bowden?
As I was reading what I wrote, I realized that we went through 3 awful punters last season. What will happen if he got sidelined?

I got that about the kicker and punter, I was making the statement as it related to the article. If the Bucs have Bowden sidelined for a period of time, I wouldn’t want to go through what they went through last year with someone like Dirk Johnson. He was terrible. smile

I put the big guy
in the middle just because if we have no OLine then we are even more screwed than we are if I started at QB…..i can run a lil bit….lol
