Favorite Buccaneer Memory?

Given that this is a Tampa Bay Buccaneers blog and most of us come here to talk about the Bucs, I thought this might be a good way to kill the long offseason.  I'll throw a few questions out and hopefully we'll see some responses and generate some discussion.

- What is your favorite memory of the Buccaneers?  It can be a play, an event, a player, anything that involved the Bucs.

- What is your least favorite memory of the Bucs?  Same stipulation as above.  Feel free to lambast someone or something.  I know we all have a few memories that we'd like to scrub from our memory bank.

Jump on down to the comments section and have at it.  Should be interesting to see what we all recall and remember, whether it be fond memories or otherwise.

Favorite play

I went to college in PA, and most of my college friends are Eagles fans. The Barber pick-6 to close out the Vet. was PRICELESS!!! It made the SB anticlimatic.

2003 playoffs against the eagles

Early in that game Joe Jerivisus made a big play for some big yards. At that moment their was no doubt in my mind that we would be Superbowl champs

2000 december monday night football

beating the rams. dunn scored late in the quarter after the rams had just scored twice. 38-35. the rams are the reason i started loving the bucs. and finally beating them made the rest of my school month that year. i was 11.

That was a great game

Dunn simply refused to lose that game

One of the best games ever of all NFL games.

the flick Dunn gave to King while Dunn was trying to break a tackle

Martin Gramatica

nailing extra point and chip shot field goals, and celebrating like it was a super bowl clincher! Very funny commercial the little guy did for United Way also…. LOL

When Gramatics hurt himself jumping around celebrating......

IT had to be in 2002 or 2001

It was a last second touchdown to Keyshawn Johnson playing against the Detroit Lions. Keyshawn jumped , turned around while in the air and made the catch near the back of a Lions DB helmet. Straight goose bumps

5-0, 1997 in general

ll the pieces coming into place and while local media were worried about the Bucs running into the 49’ers in game one of the season… Well, the Bucs decided they wouldn’t play the patsy like they had for so long.

That entire stretch, as short as it was and with how simple the offense was, was just awesome. It was like a long cold drink of water after being in the desert for years upon years.

The Dunn screen pass for a TD in the Miami game

As soon as Dunn caught the ball you knew he was taking it to the house. One of my favorite memories.

What about

When Sapp and Mike Sherman got into it.

by keysersoze19 on Jul 13, 2010 2:56 PM EDT reply actions

LOL

I still say the hit was clean and justified. Clifton was still tracing the play and you never know if a guy will have to reverse field at some point. Yeah, the confrontation made me hate the Packers that much more.

Sapp was the best defender in his era who liked dishing out punishment

anyone else who was like Sapp would of did Clifton the same way .Just would not have tried to hurt him. Maybe that hit made Clifton in to the good player he is now

Old Timers Might Remember

Doug Williams tossing a TD pass from his knees against the Lions in the first game of 1979. (good)

3-0 over Kansas City in one of the worst monsoons in Tampa history to save the season and make the playoffs. (good)

Doug Williams single-handedly saving the 1982 season by chasing down the guy who intercepted him and was going for a touchdown, despite the fact he was seriously limping between plays. Chicago settled for a FG which kept the score at 23-0 instead of 27-0. The Bucs went on to win the game 26-23 in OT. (good)

James Wilder’s chase for the combined yardage crown in 1984 where the Bucs allowed the Jets to score late to get the ball back on offense to give Wilder another chance at yardage needed to beat Eric Dickerson. He fell just short. (good)

1985 – Scot Brantley absolutely destroys QB Eric Hipple of the Lions at Tampa Stadium. (good)

Bo Jackson (Bad)

Booker Reese (Bad)

That Brantley hit on Hipple used to be on Youtube, but I can't find it anywhere.

It was a nasty hit for sure.

John Lynch

Intercepts the football during the superbowl, pretty much sealing the deal- the Raiders never came back. We owned them for the rest of the day.

I remember 1 play that attracted me to the Bucs

it had to be either the 98 or 99 season A-trian was running the ball against the Lions and like always created a big pile, he took a few steps back and pulled out of the pile then took it to the house

Sapp vs Favre was great

Loved that monday night game against the Rams. Jerevicous was awesome in the Superbowl and the playoffs leading up to it. Alstott running the entire Browns defense over was pretty special.

Seriously...

I can’t believe anyone hasn’t mentioned this already…
-My number 1 memory was of course when the Bucs absolutely slaughtered the heavy favorite Raiders to win the Bowl in 2001. Being from LA, a lot of my friends were not pleased to say the least…LOL!
-My least favorite memory has to be when in the following year (2001-2002 season) the Bucs started out really well going 5-0 until we played the Colts on Monday Night Football…that was the beginning of the end. The Bucs were up by 18 points with less than 3 minutes to go. Because we had the number one defense in the NFL at the time i really thought that game was done, but fate had other ideas…. To my disgust, Payton and the Colts scored 3 touchdowns in less than 3 minutes including retrieving an onside kick…. The Mighty Bucs were never the same, we didn’t even make the playoffs that year and some of the core players from the bowl run left within a year or 2 (Sapp, Jurevicious, Dunn, and Lynch). We’ve made the playoffs after that but they’ve never quite jelled the way that 1998-2001 team did – that’s why that was my least favorite memory.

They won the Super Bowl in 2002-2003

Impressive that you miss that by 2 seasons while it’s your favourite memory.
