What position is the Bucs biggest weakness?
I'll be short and sweet on this one. The 2010 roster seems to be generally set and we can all guess at the starting lineup and backups. Given that the offseason is a slow time, I thought a good, old-fashioned rosterbation thread could be used to give us some talking points. I've outlined what I project to be a reasonable assumption as to the starting 11 on each side as well as special teams. By no means is this complete, accurate or anything other than my assumption.
QB - Josh Freeman, Josh Johnson
RB - Cadillac Williams, Derrick Ward
FB - Earnest Graham
WR - Regis Benn, Mike Williams, Sammy Stroughter, Reggie Brown, Brickhands
TE - Kellen Winslow Jr., Jerramy Stevens
LT - Donald Penn, Demar Dotson
LG - Jeremy Zuttah
C - Jeff Faine
RG - Davin Joseph
RT - Jeremy Trueblood
DE - Stylez White, Tim Crowder
DT - Brian Price, Gerald McCoy, Roy Miller
LB - Geno Hayes, Barrett Ruud, Quincy Black
CB - Aqib Talib, Ronde Barber, Biggers/Lewis
S - Tanard Jackson, Sean Jones, Sabby Piscitelli
K - Connor Barth
P - Brent Bowden
KR/PR - Clifton Smith
Alright, no real surprises there at this point. Given the construction of our current roster, what is the biggest area of need? Are there potential targets that would fill these gaps? Of course, we aren't talking about trading for Chris Johnson, because that's not realistic, but feel free to drop any semi-realistic situation in there after discussing what you think the biggest position of need is.

Tough to say
Considering that we haven’t started the season yet. But I’d say that defensive end is a position that we’ll probably address in next year’s draft.
Also – If our rookie wide receivers don’t produce, it’ll be a hellish year.
Stovall's almost certainly going to be on the roster too
I think the weakest position is really tough to pinpoint. In terms of depth, CB, O-line and Safety are probably our weakest positions, but they have solid starters. The starters that are most likely to cost us wins will probably be at the WR, DT and QB positions. Every one of those guys has huge potential, but potential isn’t production.
My biggest question mark is probably running back.
I love Cadillac, but we need production from that spot. I’m still not sold on Ward and with Olson’s offense, RB is crucial to any success for Freeman.
As you can always expect come from behind victory is when you least expect it.
2011-
MARK INGRAM OR BUST.
Damn, has it been that long? Is that what happens since I been gone, homie?
they go the game all wrong, it’s too pretty in here, lets say we take it back to the trap one time

Because he looks like a pure NFL running back.
Lots or speed, lots of moves.
It's going to be a toss-up between...
the OL, DE and DB positions.
The OL is a big unknown because of the Penn situation. Hopefully Demar Dotson will step up and fill that glaring LT hole. Some of the new additions will make for some great training camp battles. If Penn really doesn’t want to play here, move him while he still has some trade value.
The DE position is a mess because of our personnel losses and the fact is wasn’t really seriously addressed in this off season. White needs to “stylez” his way to the QB a little more often and Kyle Moore will have to step up his game. A weak spot that hopefully will be addressed with next years draft.
Still think the CB spot needs some help, especially if Ronde will no longer be here after 2010. Lewis and Biggers are unknowns and Mack is known and regularly beaten like a bass drum. Sabatelli will hopefully either lose his job to Jones, or beat him out with some better play.
Do you think Ronde will start the entire season?
Do you think Raheem has the balls to sit him?
I think he starts all season.
Just not sure anyone is capable of taking that from him.

i second that unless...
unless Ronde comes out and there is an obvious dropoff even from last season, after a few games. Then yes Raheem will take him out but personally I think Ronde will have a pretty good year. Hopefully Aqib will have a better one.
He did better once Morris took over the D
I expect Barber to play out his last year as a starter, then I’m not sure. Barber says he still feels like he can play but as a starter is another question.
I hope Lewis can beat him out at some point during the season
which would tell us that he was a good pick. If Ronde continues to start, we will not really know what we have except in nickle situations, and will head into 2011 without a firm Ronde replacement.
Head Coach
OK, I know he’s not a player, but he’s the weakest part of the team.
As far as position, I’d have to say safety and middle linebacker. Missing tackles and tackling just shy of the next first down just doesn’t cut it for me.
Stay thirsty my friends.
I really hope,
Biggers starts someday.

Pass rush
needs help…. I can see Caddy having a decent year if our D keeps us alive, my position of concern is our DE… Mo Stovall though not great really seemed to gel with Freeman last year, so to add two more big targets I believe coming into this year we have a more talented group of wideouts than last
There are 4 big time DEs out there for the 2011 draft...
my hope is that we grab one (at least) plus some F/A help.

DE, S, RB
DE – White is the only one so far that has shown any talent, his production is low though. There is a possibility that Crowder or Moore may start to produce this year, but I think we need to pick one in the 2011 draft. There also may be some higher production out of all these guys if Miller, McCoy, and Price start really attacking the inside making the other teams O-Line pay more attention to them and leaving the ends to run free.
S – Sabby was one of my favorite players and I had high hopes for him, but he has proven himself to be a lame duck or Beaver. Jackson and Jones are not bad but they could defiantly use some help.
RB – I think Caddy will have a great year, but injuries are always a major factor. Not so sure about Ward, he is not a consistent back. We do have Huggins who has shown promise but is still very much a rookie and like Caddy may have injury issues. I think we need to draft a RB in 2011, I think we should go after Ingram, but does anyone have any thoughts on Royster out of Penn State?
RB, really?
I don’t disagree drafting a running back next year, but its hard to fault the backs themselves when Olsens playcalling was so pitiful.

Im from PA
so lots of Penn State coverage for this buc fan… Evan Roysters nice, but I would be hard pressed to put him up there with Ingram and Richardson…
DE, OL
We need better pass rushers and more depth on the O-line cause if any of the starters are injured we are screwed
I'll throw this out there. QB.
I still think Josh Freeman is a weak link. It doesn’t mean I don’t think he should play or that he’s going to be a bad quarterback, but as of now I have seen nothing of him that says he is a strength of our team.

Totally right
Right now it’s qb. We all saw things out of Freeman we liked but overall he played awful. The biggest question moving forward is. Is he the guy. If he’s not were in trouble

it's QB
all they have is Josh Freeman and they drafted because he sleeping with the head coach
My Theory
The way our O-Line played last season it would not have matter who our QB was, he would have had a bad season. Not to mention the lack of WR help. I do not think you can totaly blame Freeman’s performance soley on him. I think this season we will find out if he is actually worth anything.
In Freemans defense...
when you don’t have enough time to throw, and when you do your receivers aren’t open or don’t catch it, there isn’t much you can do. That added into the formula of rookie jitters + crappy play calling + no defense = 3-13
Go Bucs

I will say either Tackle or Kicker...
I know the Kicker doesn’t sound horribly important, but when points are at a premium in this league then a kicker very important. Look at Adam Vinatieri. The Patriots won three Super Bowls with him and it was normally bacause he was kicking 45 yard game winners. Then, he jumps to the Colts. What happens? They win a Super Bowl…. They didn’t win only because of him, but confidence in him can reassure the team of his ability.
It’s not even close to be important as a QB, but you need to know that this position is almost automatic for points. Through the first four games last year, Mike Nugent hit on 2-of-6 field goals. He missed on all three from 40 yards or longer I’m pretty sure. It’s greatly important to have confidence in this position.
On to Tackle…
The Donald Penn situation speaks for itself. A decent left tackle is extremely hard to find. We have one that came out of nowhere pretty much. He wasn’t highly touted coming out of college. I think he was undrafted out of Utah State. And we didn’t pay him when we could’ve gotten away with it for approximately $5 million per year, then it did not happen. But enough about him. It’s depressing.
Jeremy Trueblood is the real problem. He is a drive killer with all of those penalties. At least a tackle of lesser ability might not get caught holding as much. They should tape his fingers together. You can’t hold anyone with nubs (LMAO). I would love it if Demar Dotson to step up and take his spot so we don’t need to waste too much money on Trueblood next year. I think I will call him TrueHOLD.
These two seem unreliable to me at the moment. Hopefully, Dominik signs Penn to appease him and Trueblood thrives in a different blocking scheme. Trueblood showed signs of potential before. Maybe he can do it again. Maybe.
DE or WR
we lost talent at DE this season, obviously the addition of Price and McCoy will help, but our DE’s may be the worst in the league. At WR we have a lot of ?, but the rookies should be able to produce and Sammie was real good last year.
one mans opinion
The team is definitely in a rebuilding process so there are several position that are of concern and need to be addressed. As far as the biggest goes I would have to say DE. My argument behind this is that we have upgraded the DT position and will have to see how they do against the run but odds are they can’t be worse that last year. So that being said you have to put pressure on the QB typically the responsiblity of the DE. If you cna pressure the QB then that makes the job of everyone behind you just a little bit easier. We definitely have issuses to address on offense as well but as we proved in our Super Bowl year a great defense will almost always top a great offense
Until proven
I think until they prove they can play I would say DT, WR, DE and depending on the team ability to get Penn signed the OL. In that order but I feel good about the young DT’s we have and I feel positive about the wide outs we pick up as well yet depth is still a serious issue in that position. The ends may benefit from better DT play as mentioned. Even still I think depth is an issue there as well.
LB and WR
I like Barret Rudd but outside of him i don’t see ton’s of talent in are LB’s but hopefuly the additions to DT will make them look better and of course WR is somthing we are hurting at if Terrell Owens drops his asking price it wouldn’t hurt to sign him to a 1-2 year contract and add some proven talent to the WR core
