Where's the Love for 82

In the midst of all that goes on with Tampa Mr . Kellen Winslow  becomes an after thought . This guy represents the change of guard here in Tampa . When Mark and Raheem fist arrived they were not blessed with a seeded draft position , just to get Josh Freeman was key for them . Our big pick ups in talent  that year was Derrick Ward and Kellen Winslow , Ward was key for what we were doing at the time with Jag . When Jag got the boot ,Wards role changed but , I think they will work him into the role they want from him . Kellen was key in helping us through last years crazy season . If it was not for Kellen the pick up of Reggie Brown , Arrelious Benn , & Mike Williams would be irrelevant  . Kellen was good for the Bucs and the Bucs was good for Kellen , look at that nice contract .

Winslow came and put up crazy numbers 77 receptions , 884 yards , and 5 touch downs . While some fast tightends are fast and run fats routes , Kellen is fast but gets in and out of his cuts like a true wideout . There are not too many safeties that can cover this guy , and linebackers gets headaches covering this guy . He has some of the best hands in the league period , and his agility is like a cat . As far as toughness goes , there's he and another former U tightend Jeremy Shockey , Shockey is know to beat you  physically . Winslow is physical , but will also beat you with his athleticism . In goal line situations this guy is gold , he can get to any where in the end zone in a matter of seconds , can go after jump balls , fade route no problem .

With the rookies we are bringing in at the wideout position , one would think that Kellen might not get that many looks . Or Receivers are in a win-win situation , wideouts will not see that much pressure underneath cause ,  of Winslow and if our rookies do their job , when Winslow goes deep he will have a favorable matchup . I know Winslow was happy when he seen that we got some guys on the team that can stretch the field , and not only him . Freeman has to have a feeling of excitement , now that he has more than 1 go to guy other than Kellen .

Kellen broke the mold in the since that , he might be the best tightend in Bucs history . He is a guy that adds the same element Keyshawn had , what that element is it will take a whole other Post to explain . This guy is like Jay Z in the way that you really can't knock him , you either like him or you don't .

What kind of recognition do you want to see?

We gave him a huge contract. Fans seem to like him.

ITs the fact that

We disrespect his talent by saying Freeman does not have any weapons . We talk about Kellen like he is average or right above average when this guy is amazing .

by keysersoze19 on May 1, 2010 6:23 PM EDT up reply actions

I think I know what he is talking about

It is referenced multiple times on this blog, and in various articles, that Freeman had NO targets before the draft, then after the draft, I haven’t seen Winslow mentioned as part of the offensive passing scheme. According to most posts I have seen, Freeman now has Stroughter, Benn, Williams and the rest of the passing attack is meh.

by terp12 on May 1, 2010 6:19 PM EDT reply actions

People are talking about WRs

Which is why Winslow doesn’t get the mention. Doesn’t mean he’s unappreciated.

by Sander on May 1, 2010 6:38 PM EDT up reply actions

He is better than any wideout we got

and better than any wideout we could of drafted . The post was not because I felt he was unappreciated , it was because I have not herd any thing about Kellen since the end of the season , I just wanted to show him a little love is that too much to ask for .

by keysersoze19 on May 1, 2010 6:45 PM EDT up reply actions

If our WRs excel

Then that makes Winslow 5x as dangerous.

by NewLogic on May 1, 2010 7:54 PM EDT up reply actions

Naw

If he is our number 1 , then Benn and company are going to get 1 on 1 coverage , if not it is going to hard for Freeman to get his new targets open . Winslow put up 1000 yards when Braylon Edwards was the number 1 guy

by keysersoze19 on May 2, 2010 5:48 PM EDT up reply actions

But Braylon Edwards and who else? K2 was like the #1 or 2 WR there too.

I’m talking as if Williams will be the #1 and Benn the #2 and they both get some serious yards. Not to mention the stock yard of RB’s we have. In order for us or Freeman to be successful, the ball is gonna have to be spread out.

Stay thirsty my friends.

Some one has to throw the jabs

Sometimes 1 option and 2 option gets ruled out in the heat of battle in those times the QB will go to his go to guy , thats the guy that makes everyone better , that guy is Kellen Winslow . Put your self in Freeman shoes even with the new weapons we got Winslow will still be the go to guy , like Dallas Clark , Tony Schefler , Antonio Gates , and Jason Witten . 1 thing about the players juts mentioned Kellen is better than all of them .

by keysersoze19 on May 2, 2010 6:19 PM EDT up reply actions

Kellen led all of our receivers last year

That shouldn’t happen again. Not because Kellen isn’t good, but because WRs make better targets for passes by virtue of where they line up and the kind of routes they get to run. Yes, sometimes he’ll get the ball as the 3rd guy in a progression, but that shouldn’t happen consistently enough for him to lead everyone again unless our other WRs perform much worse than I’m expecting.

by Sander on May 2, 2010 6:26 PM EDT up reply actions

I don't think anyone's discounting Winslow.

Everyone knows he’s a big factor in the passing game. He hasn’t been mentioned recently because the intrigue has been with finding him some receiving help and musing over how good the noobs can become.

But when you here some one say

Josh Freeman does not have any targets what does that say about Kellen

by keysersoze19 on May 1, 2010 6:47 PM EDT up reply actions

To most fans it means Freeman doesn't have enough targets.

Everybody knows Winslow can make plays in the passing game. However, he can only do so much…..he needs help and I’m hoping he now has it.

When you get the job done

and you get paid well, you could careless what the blog comments say. Kellen gets much respect from his teammates and opponents. What else does he need.

by Joe Grizzly on May 1, 2010 7:56 PM EDT reply actions

Are you reading this Kellen?

Seriously man, nobody is overlooking Winslow. Everyone realizes that he is the best option in the passing game. He is not a wide receiver. Thus he is not mentioned in those articles or discussions. It seems that you just created this issue out of thin air.

Winlow is a great recieving TE

but clearly needs help. We may have it for him now. He was the only real threat in our passing game last year and should really flourish with additional weapons like Benn and Williams.

by Cracker Ball on May 2, 2010 3:07 PM EDT up reply actions

Expect Kellen to have a big year

With McCoy and Price demanding more attention, ecpect our ends to have more productivity. On the other side of the ball… Now that we may have some field stretchers, I expect Winslow to get more touches… Unfortunately for Kellen I’m thinking more over the middle plays… ouch.

by lilbunnywabbitt on May 2, 2010 1:58 PM EDT reply actions

Thats part of being a leader

When another team plays against Tampa they will have their D keyed on Winslow and the middle of the field . If we still will be able to get the ball to Winslow effectively then that means 1 on 1 coverage on the outside .

by keysersoze19 on May 2, 2010 2:40 PM EDT reply actions

Key its just a case of finally, Mr. Winslow is NOT in the offseason news, and THAT IS A GOOD THING!!

Trust me, we are going to hear A LOT about no. 82 this season. He will have 1,000 yards for sure this year.

I expect his numbers to go down like I said above, but that's only because I expect Williams and Benn to show up to play.

More TD’s and less yards is a good thing. If Williams and Benn don’t pan out this year, then yeah, Winslow’s stats will go up.

Stay thirsty my friends.

KW2

Love my boy KW2 one of the best TE in the NFL. Its a good thing hes not being talked about in the off season. Why would you bring up something that dont need to be fixed. No one ever said we didnt have a great TE. TE wasnt our poblem last year it was a lack of our WR wanting to play FOOTBALL. Remember what that weird shape brown thing is Clayton Your supose to catch that.

I understand slang and even misspelled words, but incoherent thoughts are baffling.

Though I think the blog deserves a little respect, for not allowing atrocious spelling and grammar.

You made a personal attack on another user and their article.

We have no problem with joking around, but we aren’t going to have anyone call someone names and make personal attacks. We’ve made that very clear

Criticism makes you better at what you do

Negative or positive you have to be willing to accept criticism unless you are not mature enough to accept it . Some people need to learn to agree to disagree , they get mad and think someone is trying to call them out when its just a difference in opinions , I have some of the best debates with Cracker Ball sometimes I don’t make sense to him sometimes he don’t make sense to me but not matter what its all debate it don’t turn into bashing each other .

by keysersoze19 on May 4, 2010 11:34 AM EDT up reply actions

Constructive criticism is much different than a personal attack.

to the point…. Is this website for tampa fans?

It is a site for Tampa fans

But we don’t tolerate personal attacks. We do ask that you usebthe reply button, use the header feature and try to make each post or comment somewhat readable. We don’t moderate too much but there are times when posts are so garbked that we have no choice.

And your article was more hidden for the personal attacks, not the spelling

however

I won’t be mean and call a fellow tampa fan a moron. It kinda makes me one too. Sorry for that craig t.

by Mudd-Bucs on May 2, 2010 9:06 PM EDT reply actions

I'll say this...

I don’t require a lot here. I don’t care what subjects people write about here, nor do I care if they are positive, negative, or neutral towards the team. I ask that people hit the spell checker and try to use proper grammar/spelling…..both for our benefit and for yours. When someone goes off and writes something half-assed, it makes it hard to decipher what the person is writing and that takes away from the message that is being sent in the post itself. It also makes it hard to take that person seriously.

We have distribution partnerships with major online sites (cbssports.com, national football post, yahoo sports, etc etc), so posts of low quality written by people who are indifferent/uncaring to the guidelines we’ve set forth to improve this site are going to be reeled in.

That said, it’s the personal attacks that piss me off the most. I’m not going to tolerate it from anyone.

Cannons... fire them.

by Craig T on May 2, 2010 9:26 PM EDT up reply actions

We know K2 is the bright spot of our offense.

He just hasn’t been a ‘popular’ topic this offseason for us. With that, it doesn’t take anything away from him either. Winslow is talented, and breaks cuts like a wideout. I hope he can top 1,000 yards again ;-)

As far as this grammar nonsense goes, here’s my 2 cents: Everybody needs to use periods at least. It gives me headaches trying to figure out where the sentence starts, and where it ends. Capitalize the first letters of your sentences, and try your best to spell right. No, the staff isn’t a whole bunch of jerks. Just people that want to keep this blog flowing smoothly. Part of that includes somewhat understanding what everyone is trying to say. So PLEASE give an effort in grammar.

Secondly, don’t take shots at anybody.
It’s. Just. The. Stupidest. Thing. You. Can. Do.
