The Tampa 2 will be our based defense as said by Raheem Morris . Raheem also said there will be some different things done this year to gain an edge on other teams offenses . 1 thing new is we just won't be using the front four to apply pressure , now our linebackers will get involved at getting to the QB . At DT usually our 3 technique would be the one to stunt and get up field , now it seems that both Dt will be shooting the gap and stunting on passing downs . Our corners will see more man to man coverage rather than staying in a base zone .
The D-line consist of Brain Price , Gerald Mccoy , Roy Miller , Ryan Sims , Tim Chowder , Stylez G. White , Dre Moore , Michael Bennet , Kyle Moore , and few others . What these guys have in common is that they are not just pure speed rushers . What Raheem is trying to do is have a little bulk all over the line , so that we wont lose that much of an edge against the run . QBs had a field day against us cause , we did not apply pressure from the middle of the line . Our DEs got off the line and around the edge last year , the problem was all the QB had to do was step up in the pocket and , it was as if there were no pressure at all . This year will be a different story , our DTs will consume most of the attention from opposing teams offensive lines and , our Ends will be put on an island with 1 on 1 blocks that gives us an advantage .
Barrett Ruud , Geno Hayes , and Quincy Black is cash money . Who knows what the future holds with Ruud but , he is a Buc for 2010 which is a good thing . These guys stepped up last year and that was a big help in our development , hence LB was not an issue going to the draft . These guys will help out in the pass rush which I feel that was the reason why we did not get an edge rusher . These guys will be used in coverage still , I feel they will be accurate when they do blitz cause QBs will be used to them being in coverage , it will be like a boxer power punch the DL will throw the jabs and our LBs will go in for the kill . We have depth at the LB position Adam Hayward , Jon Alston , Angelo Crowell , and Dekoda Watson these guys will allow us to take some starters off of special teams with no drop off in coverage .
Our DBs will benefit the most with the revamped DL . These guys went on a suicide mission last year , playing Bates defense with no pass rush . I think this group will give teams headaches with the mix of youth , experience , and talent . They say Ronde needs to hang it up , but now that we the weapons we have to apply pressure , Ronde can play for another 3 years maybe . Aqib Talib is our best athlete in the secondary , Ronde has helped this guy a lot it shows as he has veteran instincts to go along with freakish ability . Tanard Jackson might be the best Free safety this team has ever seen . Tanard is 1 of the best coverage safety in the league and , he is a good wrap up guy he also will benefit from the improved pass rush . The upside of Tampa secondary is that our new strong safety Sean Jones is as effective as Tanard Jackson . He is bigger and a better tackler and in our defense , he might be as good as Bob Sanders . Even though there will be more man to man coverage , it will be done in a Two man under which is frustrating to wideouts . Just like the LB position Sabby Piscitelli , EJ Biggers , Cody Grimm , Corey Lynch , Elbert Mack , and Myron Lewis allows us to take some starters off of special teams and gives us added depth . This is good for Sabby as he was better as a spot starter .
Overall the time thing is the only thing to worry about with this defensive unit . Raheem Morris changes could be as effective as what Monty Kiffin started , or it can be blown up into the ground , which is unlikely to happen . If every thing develops the right way , in 2010 our defensive unit will be ranked some where in the 8 to 15 range but after that , it will be top 3 just like the good ole times . Buc nation what do you think of our revamped defense ?
