Buccaneer Wishlist

The Bucs have a ton of needs that can't all be filled in the 2010 NFL draft. That is why my Bucs Wishlist starts with trading back. (We only trade back if Suh isn't available, McCoy is a bust ready to happen) First we trade back with the Broncos because the Broncos are reported to have interest in Eric Berry.

Bucs recieve: Broncos 1st & 2nd round pick

Broncos receive: Bucs 1st round pick

Next the Bucs trade back again, but with the Chargers this time. The Chargers are in need of a running back and CJ Spiller won't fall to the 28th pick.

Bucs receive: Chargers 1st round pick Chargers third round pick

Chargers receive: Bucs first round pick

This leaves the Bucs with 12 picks. And with 12 real rookies, and 3 rookies from last year coming back from season ending injuries the Bucs will have to have a good draft.  Fill out the rest of these picks yourself.

I dont know who died and told you hat the 2010 draft will not cover the Bucs needs think about it all Tampa needs is a pass rush and weapons for Freeman. Our Linebackers is straight , DBs with the jones addition straight , O line straight , Special Teams is the best in the league did I miss something
O yea running backs straight

by keysersoze19 on Mar 20, 2010 8:48 PM EDT reply actions

We are about as "straight" as a skillet full of snakes.

We only have 1 decent CB, the DL can’t stop the run and only had 28 sacks, which tied us for 5th worst in the league. OL has trouble run blocking and our best WR now wears tiger stripes. One of our OLB is hurt until training camp and our MLB is unhappy with his tender, but will grace us with his presence in camp anyway. We don’t know is Jones will be a good S – or even good enough to replace Sabby. Cadillac had a good year, but can we really count on that to happen again? To me, no one else showed anything.

OK… so we have a great TE and a young, but still learning QB. Yeah, you missed something.

by Cracker Ball on Mar 20, 2010 9:06 PM EDT up reply actions

Ronde is straight Talib is straight Jackson is straight , thats 3 DBs , say what you want but you did not say our linebackers were bad , Davin is straight Faine is straight Penn is straight , thats not my opinion if these players were on the market they would get picked up quick if that was the case we would trade our pick cause Suh or Mccoy would not be the answer no way I want to read your blogs next year when the Bucs are winning

by keysersoze19 on Mar 21, 2010 2:05 AM EDT up reply actions

For some reason, you seem to think I don't want the Bucs to win

Ronde, although I personally like him,is nowhere near the player he once was. We have Talib (drafted under Grudens time here) and Jackson. So 2 of the 4 DBs are acceptable. We don’t know how S Jones will impact the team. Any of our LBs could be upgraded – but especially the field general MLB Ruud. The DL is a wreck and EVERY player there could be upgraded. So out of 11 defensive players, that’s 6 spots for sure.

Offensively, we are worse off. Faine is a very good C, but the guard and tackle play can ALL be upgraded. We have 1 decent WR and he was a rookie last year. If it weren’t for TE Kellen Winslow we would really be hurting. He stepped up and will be terrific if he can continue to play at that level. Freemen is set, but still very young. RB is our deepest position with Caddy, Ward, etc. So that is 6 on the offense too.

12 out of 22 starters is hardly straight. That IS why we finished 3-13. We won’t be winning next year, or even the year after that.

Don’t hold back. But I’m feelin ya.

I Think the O line cannot be judged by last years results at all.

I say that because of the crazy lose weight, learn the zone blocking system, only to abandon it, and go with the old system. Plus you lost Sears too. Next years line, just the normal players back from 2008, will be very improved from 2009. Of course, Trueblood is the wild card.
The D Line IS a wreck, and will a new D line after the draft and by time August comes around.

I put our players at more like 15-16 in place, with 6 to 7 better players needed, mostly at DL and WR.

Other than TE, our OL is probably the best part of our team.

Any problems with the OL from last year all falls on the coaching staff. Still, OL depth is important, so grabbing one isn’t a bad thing.

All I meant was that i dont want another dexter jackson, and this draft has alot of depth. Dom and Raheem have to draft well. We dont want a Gaines Adams,Adam Carikker, Chris Long. We need immediate impact. Thats why we trade back.

by darkjollyrancher on Mar 20, 2010 9:01 PM EDT reply actions

running backs straight?

The Bucs still need help at running back. Caddy cant carry the ball 20plus times a game. Derrick Ward was a bust, and Graham was playing FB half the season because of BJ Askew injury. Clifton Smith is fumble prone, and we have an unproven runningback from last year. We Dont Need Help?!?!?!???!!!!

by darkjollyrancher on Mar 20, 2010 9:04 PM EDT reply actions

The running backs talent was not the problem it was the scheme we went to a zone blocking scheme which the o-line had to gasp to later in the year esp. in our 3 wins that area looked straight all those things come into play the thing with Ward is that he runs at the same pace as Williams your 2nd back will not be effictive running at the same pace as your starter unless your o-line is dominate at what they do our running game willl improve with chemistry alone im not saying that having someone like Spiller or Mccluster would not be nice but someone like Brandon James would be as effective

by keysersoze19 on Mar 21, 2010 2:12 AM EDT up reply actions

Ward was not a bust, we were not committed to the run enough to get him enough consistant carries. When he did tote the ball, he did well at times. Check out his avg.

And we had TWO good FBs go down last year, Storer will be back too. FB is a position of Depth on this team. Remember, BJ went down because of a car accident, not a playing injury. that can happen to anyone.

But I think we need a RB too, but not this year. Next time were in a good spot Id love to see us take one.

Man this is depressing....

Are there any bucs fan blogs out there that are less negative and show any positives?? Man I know the team needs work but holy crap optimism is not allowed here

by bucsfan4life on Mar 21, 2010 2:08 AM EDT reply actions

How can anyone expect "warm fuzzy" with a 3-13 record?

C’mon guys, optimisim here is just theory. Our reality is 3-13. If you are not part of the solution – you are part of the problem. Making nice with each other and glazing over the poor performance and the reasons behind it may be more pleasant, but solves nothing. Instead, you should offer you opinions and suggestions on how to improve the situation here by exposing the root problems and fixes for it.

Turning the other cheek just gives somebody a free shot to your chops.

by Cracker Ball on Mar 21, 2010 11:29 AM EDT up reply actions

Dude, you want to look at 3-13, go for it..

…while your looking at Leftwich and JJ and a two gap Defense.

I will look at 2-1 in the last 3 games, a defense that was around 9th at scoring, and Josh Freeman at QB.
THAT team was NOT 3-13. Unfortunatly, you are only looking at something as a whole, that simply is NOT a whole.

all that other jazz are just sayings.
what the hell does being positive about the Bucs have to do with getting hit by someone?
Sometimes I wonder why I waste my time, I feel like Im defending my team against dolphins fans or something.

You want to follow a team and think all negative about them, ok, whatever. I dont see the enjoyment in doing that. Id prefer to look at an 0-16 team as nowhere to go but up. I dont know what you would do.

Top Draft needs 2010: DT, WR, DE

by Niko Houllis on Mar 21, 2010 7:10 PM EDT up reply actions

You choose to look at 25% of the season

instead of 100%. All kinds of things would look great if you viewed them that way.

Put perfume on a pig and you still have a pig.

I have stuck with this team through thick and thin. All of the crummy seasons and the good ones too. I never ever stopped wearing my Buc colors even when the “fair weather” fans found other things to do. You keep bringing up that “Dolphins fans” thing – but you won’t find him here. I just simply refuse to pretend like everything is rosy. Optimism is fine. Looking at the up side is fine. Being in denial or refusing to discuss the big problems is not. We are a 3-13 team no matter how you slice it. We haven’t chosen this high in the draft for a very long time. Defending the indefensible is something I don’t understand.

Accept being a loser and you have just become one.

by Cracker Ball on Mar 21, 2010 9:11 PM EDT up reply actions

Were just fans man

This is supposed to be something you do for enjoyment. Dont be suprised when we arnt jumping on your band wagon. You can call it whatever you want, but its depressing. You go out of your way to bash this team. I can understand debating what this team needs to do to get better. But you go WAY past that by constantly telling us how terrible this team is and how terrible we will be for years to come. Go to the Redskins, Chiefs, Seahawks blogs and see what happens when you tell them how terrible thier team is. So I dont mind debating what this team has done wrong, or what they need to do to get better but contantly being told how bad my team is gets old, actually its been old a long time ago.

WE GET THAT WE SUCKED LAST SEASON. We get that we have a unproven head coach/GM, we get that we have a lot of work to do to get better.

Morris is going to be our coach next season, nothing we say on this blog is going to change that. I know you think Morris/Dominik are running this team in the wrong direction, but how is bashing this team going to change that? ITS NOT…

irregardless of what I say here, so you or I change nothing. I love this team but the truth can hurt sometimes – but it is the truth. I just can’t seem to talk myself into imaginary victories.

So how is being happy about our losses going to change anything either?

I am looking forward to this draft - probably more than any other I can remember

because IT IS a tremendous opportunity to get this ark moving in the right direction. That being said, it is also imperative that we do an excellent job with it – for the fans and for the sake of the teams future. Morris and Dominik can not screw this up. If they did, we will be even further behind the curve.

I also promise that I root just as hard for the Bucs as you do.

by Cracker Ball on Mar 23, 2010 6:59 PM EDT up reply actions

Draft day is not here yet...

so don’t count anything out just yet. It ain’t over until the card reaches the podium. I deliberately chose an ark as it is big, cumbersome and does not change direction easily.

also, please remember that you cannot really grade drafts for many years...

What we ALL could think is a great draft could be a bust. Last year, everyone on here was bummed we took Freeman. Now most of us are pretty happy with the pick.

Im in no denial,

I know what we are, a team that is rebuilding.

you just need to accept that.
and I choose to look at the 25% which is the LAST part of the season, not the 75% that was the first part, with players at QB who will NOT be playing QB next year, or playing a defensive scheme that will NOT be played next year. Why the heck do you want to weigh that in when trying to asses the team?

So the Bucs trade away the #3 overall

to ultimately wind up with the #28 overall, #45 overall and #91 overall because you are worried about higher draft picks busting and building up the team depth. First off the return for giving up higher draft picks is insane ans second it just means that the Bucs get to draft more players with less perceived talent. I am not against trading back, but would want a lot more than that.

by ronnydobbs on Mar 21, 2010 8:57 AM EDT reply actions

McCoy is a bust waiting to happen?

I mean its the draft, you can say that about any player and possibly be right, but show me anyone else who is saying McCoy is a bust waiting to happen. Everyone Ive read has him as an incredibly gifted and quick athelete, and Warren Sapp has put himself in his corner for the Bucs to pick him.

McCoy

Gerald McCoy is only an above average player that was needed to compete with Suh. McCoy shouldn’t be drafted in the top 5. In the article above I wanted to get McCoy and Trade back with Seatle but they recently got Charlie Whithurst and i think arent in the play for a qb. He should be a 5-10 pick.

by darkjollyrancher on Mar 21, 2010 9:53 AM EDT reply actions

CLE may be the trading partner now

as they still need a “QB of the future” and must jump WAS. If the Rams take Bradford instead of Suh, we shouldn’t make the trade. If they don’t – our choice at #3 just becomes solid gold.

Jpirate has a good draft...

This might the kind of draft we nedd. Hey i’m not saying that 3-13 is awsome because frankly it sucks. The point is that we kind of all knew that we needed to re-do this team eventually. Even though we were competitive for the most part over the last 10-12 years the increasing number of free agent aquicitions really bothered me. I can see this happing. This is ( IMO) the best way for long term success. Rome wasn’t built in a day and neither will this team just yet…

My wishlist

This is my wishlist. On my 1,2, and 3 picks. Haden, Cody and Hardy are my first choices. Suh, Spikes and Arenas are my alternates.

1.Joe Haden CB UF or N. Suh DT NEB
2a.Terrence Cody NT or Brandon Spikes LB UF
2b.Greg Hardy DE Old Miss or Javier Arenas CB BAMA
3. Damian Williams WR USC
4 Daryl Sharpton LB UM
5. George Selvie DE USF
5b Andre Dixon RB UConn
6. Jake Ballard TE Ohio State ( blocking TE)
7 Matt Pipho OT UM
7b. Ryan Perriloux QB Jacksonville State (formerly LSU)

I think Haden is a great talent at corner, and even though we’ve been lacking a pass rusher at DT, we need a dude who can clog the lane. Cody fits the bill for that role and can create opportunities for the linebackers. Hardy is a mean DE and I think he would be a good fit playing opposite Stylez White. Sharpton and Williams give us some athletism and playmakers at their respective positions. Selvie is a project player as is Dixon. Ballard and Pipho can help us with depth on the O-line. Perriloux gives you another arm, and big talent at a low price, on the team just in case we ship off Leftwich.

toby

When the bucs get to the third or fourth round they need to look at toby gerhart from stanford .He reminds me of mike alstott , only a little faster and not quite as big , but big enough . To me derrick ward didn’t get the job done and earnest graham is done , trade em’ . If you saw gerhart play I believe you would like what you see . A tough player who knows how to get the extra yard , two hands on the ball ,and will not go down with an arm tackle . He waiits for his blockers and then lowers a shoulder and moves the pile. Check out the notre dame game . He was un-stoppable !…..The third pick in the draft should be very interesting…………VERY INTERESTING !!!

He is nothing like Alstott. He keeps getting compared to Alstott because the dude’s white. It’s like a disease that pundits have, they can’t compare black players to white players and vice versa.
Gerhart is a much more complete back than Alstott. Gerhart is elusive and has long speed as well as initial quickness. Alstott had nothing of the sort.

Even though I dont like touching on racial issues (which recent events have me thinking twice about that)...

It is true what you say Sander.

You see that alot with Sabby and Lynch, when clearly Flip was a wood-bringer like Lynch, not Sabby.

Yes

He didnt have break away speed, but he was elusive a times. He didnt always run people over.

If we didn’t already have Derrick Ward and Cadillac I would be onboard with that recommendation. A backfield full of slow running backs with power isn’t what we need. The Bucs are lacking speed on offense. The only speed we have had on offense here in the last 4 years is Joey Galloway.

seem to be a little sensitive about gerhart . I don’t care what coler he is , he is a tough football player . ..like alstott . why do they call graham mr. august ? By the way , my favorite bucs……..cadillac williams and davin joseph ! Keep your racial crap to yourself !! GO BUCS !!
