haha dude

First of all, its weird that your fiancé is the one going to Tech and not you (for those of you who don’t know, Tech is 70% dudes…yes its as bad as it sounds). Anyways, I’ve been here for four years and its not that bad…the food is amazing and sure the ghetto factor’s a little high for my taste but you get used to it! Also, ATLBucs.com is the atlanta bucs fan club…if you ever have a day off you should go and watch the game with em!

Good Food?

Where? I am up in Buford now, and did live in Cumming. The food up here is rather pedestrian. The best places I can name here are: Papi’s Cuban Restaurant in Lawrenceville (awesome taste, size, and price), and Fini’s Pizzeria in Lawrenceville and Flowery Branch. I’m sure there are lots of good Mom & Pop places downtown, but I never make it down there. What am I missing?

Well...

I’m in midtown all the time so there’s you’re problem! Mary Mac’s on Ponce, R. Thomas on Peachtree (just regular old peachtree st), Ru San’s, the italian place at the southern end of Piedmont park, Eats on Ponce, Willy’s (its a moes-like chain except much much better if you didn’t know), I mean the list goes on! Fellini’s is probably the best pizza I’ve ever had and papi’s is good cuban but its not like the stuff in FL (Then again, the only place that probably has better cuban food than FL is cuba!)

The food is amazing. I can give you a list of resturants...

but, I know of nothing in Gwinnett.

Atl has to be the food capital of the south.

Only NYC, Boston and Chicago are better food cities I would imagine.

Vegas, San Fransicso, Portland, OR, Miami, Denver, Philadelphia

Boston has some good stuff, but not enough to be on this list.

I'm not negative, I'm just telling you how it is.

Louisiana

is good for some exotic and new foods. You’ll mostly find that in New Orleans.

It kinda depends on what you like...

for me personally, Memphis is the “center of the food universe” because of my love of pork BBQ. If Mexican food is your thing, then San Antonio should be your destination.

I actually ate at the Taco Bus while I was there - twice.

It was pretty good but that kind of thing is very common here in San Antonio – as one might expect.

Well it's the we got here, the owner is a chef from Mexico and it's the closest we can get to street food here, something Americans get wrong or don't get at all.

Went there after the USF game the other night and got me a beef tongue taco, holy crap that thing was good.

You'd think we'd be, but we're not really.

The Cuban sandwich is originally from Tampa back from where there were tons of orange groves here, and the workers were Cuban, but other than that, there’s nothing that really stands out and says “Eat in Tampa”

There are some decent places to eat, but unfortunately, the people here rely on the chain restaurants and the mom and pop places, and individual chefs can’t compete with those guys. I know Outback, Bonefish, Hooters, and Checkers all started here, but they are chains too.

I'm not negative, I'm just telling you how it is.

No.

You can find some good places, but diverse? Where’s the Asian food? The African food? The MIddle-Eastern food?

Don’t get me wrong, I like Southern food, BBQ and Mexican, but… How many sushi bars, falafel houses and pho places are there in Tampa? Orlando would win that battle…

I live in Seattle and while it certainly wouldn’t enter a discussion about Southern food, the diversity is far and away much greater than that of Tampa.

If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

Roy's is awesome though.

Not that I can really afford to eat there…

There is one very near the USF campus...

on Busch Blvd. that had excellent Indian food, but the actual name escapes me right now. I don’t believe the Tampa population is really ethnically diverse enough to have THAT many good ethnic restaurants.

by Cracker Ball on Nov 9, 2010 11:10 AM EST up reply actions

I wouldn't say Orlando's Asian food is better, it's just all grouped up.

The stuff in Tampa and Pinellas is just so spread out, but it’s good.

I'm not negative, I'm just telling you how it is.

by bucnut1 on Nov 9, 2010 11:23 AM EST up reply actions

okay, but...

A) Who cares why orlando would win? It just does. For the simple reason that more foreigners live there. Just like Cracker says below, Tampa is simply not ethnically diverse enough to support that many ethnic restaurants.

B) Just because Google has hits doesn’t mean the restaurants are any good. Do a Google search of every metroplitan area in the country, make a comparison, and then tell me that Tampa has diversity.

And lastly C), what are you comparing Tampa to? I’m not attacking you or anything and it’s not like this is an important topic, but your handle implies you were born in 1988 which would make you 22-ish. That’s an assumption, I could be wrong, but how many cities have you lived in? I’m only 30, but I’ve lived and travelled throughout much of the US and Asia. Your idea of “diverse” may be quite different from mine.

If you will it, dude, it is no dream.

The AtlBucs Krewe is fun.

They have a tailgate before the game this Sunday. It’s a 10$ charitable donation for food and drink. Hit me up if your interested and I’ll email you info.

Tampa Transplant Here

I moved up here in 2001 to satisfy my ex-business partner’s naggy little wife who wanted me around to make sure I was “really” working. You’ll notice he’s an ex-partner :).

Anyhow, the trick to living in Atlanta is not to. Get thee to the suburbs my friend (Gwinnett County, Cobb County, Forsyth County), and when downtown, avoid eye contact and resist the urge to be compassionate to anybody. I was never robbed like you, but the amount of people with their hands out, using the same old sob stories begging for money, is unreal.

I’ve had to use Sunday Ticket for the last 10 years, but it can be a little pricey.

Do I think the Bucs have a chance to win? Yeah. Do I think they will win? No. Unless last weeks success against the run was not a mirage and I think it was, the Falcons will run all day on the Bucs. I hope I am wrong.
